Even with film and television productions starting to make their long-awaited comebacks, there are still signs pointing to a number of delays coming for some of the most anticipated projects of 2020. One of the casualties still a part of this mess is Marvel Studios' The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which was originally set to premiere on Disney+ sometime next month but wasn't a part of the latest release slate. While that news is absolutely a downer, more information has just arrived that should give MCU fans a chance to be hopeful yet...
In a new report from Deadline, as part of a release confirming that The Falcon and the Winter Solider will not make its debut on Disney+ in August, the outlet is reporting that WandaVision "remains on track for its previously set October premiere date. It's unknown if this October release month is a new announcement or a publishing error considering that Disney had previously announced that the series would be releasing on their streaming service in December. The series has reportedly finished all principal production and is currently in its final stages of post-production remotely.
Update: Deadline has now revised their report to state that WandaVision "remains on track for a 2020 premiere date."
WHAT THIS MEANS
Marvel fans have been in dire need of any sort of good news through the craziness of the pandemic, and this would constitute as exactly that! WandaVision was one of the earliest projects to go into production for Marvel and Disney+, and with how much VFX work was likely to be included, it makes sense that the post-production work is all that is needed to be complete.
The only real question that remains now is where exactly WandaVision will fit into the greater MCU’s timeline. All that is known is that the show’s plot will happen at some point before 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and it’s still unclear how vital its release date is in comparison to the other Disney+ series. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has already been confirmed to take place in 2023 post-Avengers: Endgame, and there are no signs pointing to how much the different shows will bounce off of each other yet.
WandaVision is in its final stages of production in preparation for release on Disney+ in late 2020. The Falcon and The Winter Solider still has less than a couple weeks of filming remaining with no set timeline for its release.
