HBO Max is prepping a series based around the character of Peacemaker, played by John Cena in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.
The series is intended to be a spinoff of the film with Gunn himself writing and directing parts of the show. John Cena is set to reprise his role.
Deadline is reporting that actor Steve Agee, who will be playing both King Shark and Belle Reve Federal Penitentiary warden John Economos in The Suicide Squad, will reprise the latter role in the John Cena-led series Peacemaker series.
WHAT THIS MEANS
Steve Agee is no stranger to collaborating with James Gunn. The comedian appeared as one of Taserface's mutinous Ravagers in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He also popped up in Super and Brightburn, the latter of which Gunn produced.
Agee's other notable credits include The Connors, New Girl and You're The Worst. He's also a writer who has contributed to over 300 episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Although not much is known about the story of The Suicide Squad, one can see how it would make sense for Agee's prison warden character to show up in Peacemaker, considering that the title character could potentially be locked up in Belle Reve.
What's really interesting about this story is the idea that other characters from the film could make the leap from film to television. Many of the actors in the cast are known for their television work, including fan-favorite Nathan Fillion and Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson.
The Suicide Squad is set to release on August 6, 2021.
