The Mandalorian's second season is quickly drawing to a close, and it's time to start looking towards the future. While the final outcome of Season 2 is still unknown, there are several characters who joined the fray that will certainly play a big part in what's to come.
Despite reports by the trades as far back as this spring, it's still stunning to see Ahsoka Tano, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Boba Fett all joining The Mandalorian in just this season alone. Ahsoka's appearance seemed to set up a storyline that would distance the character from the main events of The Mandalorian, but Bo-Katan and Boba Fett look like they're here to stay.
The hit series has positioned itself to go even bigger than it has in Season 2, and the release window for the third season has just been announced...
During the Disney Investor's Day event, Lucasfilm announced that The Mandalorian Season 3 will start streaming on Disney+ during the Christmas season in 2021. An exact Episode 1 premiere date has yet to be announced.
WHAT THIS MEANS
This was inevitable, but it's nice to have it confirmed. COVID-19 threw the production of Season 3 off by a few months, forcing The Mandalorian's team to begin work this month as opposed to earlier in the fall like normal. As a result, the release window for the third season was going to have to be pushed back a bit to compensate for the time needed to complete the show's high-end visual effects.
The Mandalorian Season 2 is nearly finished, but the impression the show is giving is that things are just getting started. With the announcements of both Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic, the ever-expanding storyline that's currently following Din Djarin is clearly only going to get bigger, and the scale of Season 3's production will likely increase as well.
It'll be a bit longer of wait this time around for Mando to make his return, but if the third season of the series is as good as the second, it will be worth it. The Mandalorian is one of the most popular shows in the world, and Season 3 will be a nice Christmas gift from Lucasfilm to celebrate the beloved entry to the Star Wars franchise. The series' creative team is hard at work right now on Season 3's production, and before long we'll have a better idea of where the story is taking us.
