Marvel Studios returns to New York Comic-Con (NYCC) 2026 with a highly anticipated panel that is set to showcase game-changing reveals about the MCU's upcoming slate. In 2025, Marvel used NYCC to unveil special looks at their future slate, including a look at the black symbiote in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, and to bring Krysten Ritter on stage alongside Charlie Cox to confirm Jessica Jones' appearance in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics & Franchise at Marvel Studios, also unveiled news about X-Men '97 Season 3's renewal and closed the panel with footage from Wonder Man and VisionQuest.

While the MCU is heading into its Multiversal endgame in Avengers: Doomsday later this year, there are still Disney+ projects on the docket that could reshape the franchise's future, such as Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, Marvel Zombies Season 2, and X-Men '97 Season 3, and these shows are expected to be pushed to the forefront in Marvel's 2026 NYCC panel.

October 8 is a great day to be an MCU fan, with a wave of announcements expected to emerge online soon. Marvel Studios is set to officially start its  "Up Next From Marvel Television and Marvel Animation" panel at New York Comic-Con 2026 at 4:15 p.m. ET, promising "an inside look at Marvel Television and Marvel Animation's most anticipated upcoming series on Disney+."

Creature Commandos Season 2 is set to add one major DCU hero with Justice League ties into the mix that could introduce a major shift into Task Force M's dynamic. The ending of Creature Commandos Season 1 introduced a new version of Task Force M following the death of one core member, Nina Mazursky, who was killed by Princess Ilana Rostovic of Pokolistan. Amanda Waller promoted the Bride to become Task Force M's leader, showing a roster that includes Doctor Phosphorus and Weasel, a rebuilt (and upgraded) G.I. Robot, Nosferata, Khalis, and former Suicide Squad member King Shark. Creature Commandos' debut season emphasized that this team is less interested in being good because of the amount of bad imbued in this roster, but a new report could change that.

Captain Atom, the Nathaniel version of the character from DC Comics who has been part of multiple Justice League teams, is set to appear as a recurring character in Creature Commandos Season 2.

The details about Captain Atom's role in the upcoming DCU series are still being kept under wraps, but his inclusion is a significant boost to Creature Commandos as he can be a stabilizing force of good in a team full of morally complex misfits.

Last year, as part of an IMAX shareholder presentation, Avengers: Doomsday was announced alongside 20 other blockbuster movies for an IMAX release in 2026. However, fans were shocked to learn that this agreement would fall through, leaving Doomsday to miss out on IMAX upon its release in favor of Dune: Part Three in December. Undeterred, Disney opted to invest in a controversial strategy to compete with IMAX for the upcoming release of Doomsday: Infinity Vision.

Announced at CinemaCon 2026, Infinity Vision is a certification program designed to identify Premium Large Format (PLF) theaters that would offer the optimal viewing experience for Avengers: Doomsday. However, it would be the re-release of Avengers: Endgame that would be the true test of this new certification program across multiple different theater formats.

Coven Academy lead star Malina Weissman and showrunner Tim Federle shared their positive response to a possible Season 2 renewal following the show's Disney+ premiere. Created by Tim Federle, Coven Academy is a teen supernatural drama that follows Briar Roberts, a stubborn New Yorker played by Malina Weissman, who arrives at an elite magic boarding school in New Orleans and discovers she is a witch. She has to navigate the world of coven politics, vampires, grief, and forbidden attraction while also trying to solve what happened to the murder of the woman who raised her. The series premiered on Freeform on October 1, 2026, as part of 31 Nights of Halloween, with the full season landing the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.

As of writing, Disney has yet to announce a potential Season 2 for Coven Academy. Despite that, Coven Academy's debut season (via FlixPatrol) ranked the series No. 1 on Disney+'s U.S. chart, with the show being ahead of established titles including American Horror Story and The Drop: A Snowfall Saga. On the overall Disney+ chart, it placed third on the October 5 chart, only behind movies Toy Story 5 and Hocus Pocus.

It's worth noting that those rankings are estimates drawn from public charts, not official Disney viewing hours or Nielsen figures. Still, leading the U.S. series charts in the days after a full-season drop indicates a stronger opening than most new live-action young adult shows get.

Prime Video's Carrie introduced several characters with "the shine" in Season 1, and one of them is an unexpected addition that retconned Stephen King's novel. King's fiction universe introduced "the shine" as a broad, inherited psychic gift. The term was name-dropped in 1977's The Shining, three years after the events of Carrie. Stephen King's world established that people who have the shine are unusually sensitive to thoughts, emotions, places, and sometimes, the future. It's worth noting that the ability is not a single fixed power, meaning it can range from telepathy, telekinesis, precognition, psychometry, and astral projection.

A few notable examples who have exhibited the shine in King's stories include Danny Torrance in The Shining and Dick Hallorann from IT: Welcome to Derry. Given that Carrie was Stephen King's first novel, the book never used the word, but many strongly believed that Carrie's telekinesis had long been read as an early version of the same phenomenon.

A new promo for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has caught the attention of many longtime Marvel Comics fans, setting up Sadie Sink's Jean Grey and the Phoenix Force. Brand New Day is the biggest movie of 2026 so far and has gone on one of the greatest box-office runs in Hollywood history. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is, of course, the star of the show, but MCU newcomer Jean takes center stage right alongside him. The film doubles as a partial origin story for the young mutant, one that will pick back up when the X-Men get their own MCU reboot in 2028.

In a recent behind-the-scenes promo shared by IGN, Spider-Man: Brand New Day choreographer Nathan Kim opened up about Jean's big climactic moment, still hunting for "V-Max." The scene finds her being brutally experimented on by the Department of Damage Control (DODC) boss Bill Metzger (Tramell Tillman).

It's a haunting moment, one that felt familiar to X-Men fans, as the young mutant's telepathic powers are manipulated and the mind-hopping seen throughout Brand New Day becomes forceful.

The Lanterns team already has one Green Lantern in mind to replace Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan in a potential Season 2. James Gunn's DCU made a controversial decision for the Green Lantern mythos in entering the story at the tail-end of Hal Jordan's career. The DC Studios and HBO original Lanterns took things one step further by killing off Hal, with his then-girlfriend Kerry Kane killing him to keep her dark family secrets. The eight-episode season ended with Aaron Pierre's John Stewart stepping up to become Green Lantern with a unique Dark Lantern, leaving his partnerless for Season 2.

Lanterns showrunner Chris Mundy spoke with The Ringer-Verse after the season finale and was asked which Green Lanterns could come on board for Season 2, replacing Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan after his unfortunate death. Well, Mundy confirmed that one writer, Vanessa Baden Kelly, has been "talking a big Kilowog game for a long time," advocating for the giant alien space cop to join Lanterns:

"Vanessa [Baden Kelly]'s been talking a big Kilowog game for a long time. We've tossed out a lot of different things."

For the first time, Marvel Studios has given Ultron (James Spader) a trailer all his own ahead of VisionQuest. Spader is back in the role for the Disney+ series, which debuts with its first two episodes on October 14. He was, of course, the main villain of Avengers: Age of Ultron, his one and only MCU appearance, with the AI robot having been born and then wiped off the face of the Earth by the end of the movie. But in classic Marvel fashion, death is only the beginning, and Ultron's new trailer proves that his God complex is still alive and well.

Marvel Studios just released a new VisionQuest trailer titled "Ultron's Got His Groove Back," and as the name suggests, it's all about the devious child of Tony Stark: Ultron.

The iconic British comedy game show, Taskmaster, is currently airing its 22nd series, which is insane—but completely well-deserved and deeply warranted given how beloved it is. For those who might not know, Taskmaster is a game show in which five celebrities, often comedians, are given bizarre challenges to compete against each other for points.

Taskmaster Series 22 features well-known comedians Chloe Petts, Isy Suttie, Matt Lucas, Nina Conti, and Richard Ayoade, all of whom must complete tasks set by the judges, Greg Davies and Alex Horne.

While there isn't a US version of Taskmaster, or at least one that lasted more than a season, there is something in the same realm: Dropout TV's Game Changer. The show lives up to its name. It's an improv comedy game show where the game the contestants play changes every episode—and none of them know the rules when it all starts.

A Star Wars actor who played a part in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was approached to reprise the role in the Disney+ series Andor. However, the actor turned down the opportunity because he found one particular request from the production team too ridiculous. Star Wars has a long history of actors turning down roles for one reason or another. Famous movie stars like Al Pacino, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Gary Oldman have all declined Star Wars roles when something didn't sit quite right with them.

Star Wars actor Jordan Stephens, in an interview with Zeteo UK, revealed that he refused to reprise his role as Corporal Tonc in Andor because the series' production team asked him to cut his dreadlocks, a request he found ludicrous. Stephens, best known as one half of the British rap duo Rizzle Kicks, played the Rebel soldier in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, widely considered one of the best Star Wars entries of the Disney era.

NBC's Chicago Fire Season 15 marked a fresh start for all the characters after a game-changing cliffhanger finale last season. Chicago Fire has had its fair share of cast exits since the show's premiere in 2012. While Firehouse 51 is seen by many as a workplace family, the One Chicago series routinely cycles its cast to refresh the ensemble. Some of the notable exits over the years include Leslie Shay (Season 2), Peter Mills (Season 3), Battalion Chief Wallace Boden (Season 12), and, most recently, Sam Carver and Darren Ritter last season. Amid these exits, some of the original Chicago Fire cast members have remained since the pilot, including Taylor Kinney's Kelly Severide, David Eigenberg's Christopher Herrmann, Christian Stolte's Mouch, and Joe Miñoso's Joe Cruz.

Chicago Fire's Season 14 finale ended on a cliffhanger after an emergency call sent the team to a fire at a storage facility. Most of Firehouse 51 went inside until a loud explosion cut the episode to black, leaving the fate of the core Chicago Fire firefighters hanging in the balance. Chicago Fire Season 15, Episode 1 confirmed the fates of everyone involved, including a shocker that led to big cast shakeups for the NBC series.

An official Disney promo finally sealed the fate of Vampirina: Teenage Vampire, settling ambiguity about its Season 3 renewal chances. The supernatural musical sitcom began last year as a live-action take on Disney Jr.'s Vampirina, which stars the young vampire Vee Hauntley on her journey to become a pop star at a performing arts school, making friends, finding love, and fighting evil along the way. The six-episode Season 2 had a special marathon premiere on Disney Channel on October 6 before debuting for streaming on Disney+ on October 7.

Disney Channel Spain aired a new promo for Vampirina: Teenage Vampire Season 2 that confirms the supernatural musical sitcom won't return for Season 3, with the show seemingly ending after its recent six-episode run. The promo uses the term "Últimos episodios," which translates to "last episodes," confirming that Vampirina is, unfortunately, wrapping up after just two seasons.

Those who have already tuned in for Season 2 on Disney Channel or Disney+ (spoilers ahead!) won't be surprised to learn that that is it for Vampirina. The show concludes with Kenzi Richardson's Vee and Shaun Dixon's Eli saving the world together before overcoming the ancient prophecy that dictated vampires and Van Helsings stay apart, ending the story victorious, as a couple, and with their supernatural secrets announced to all of Wilson Hall.

Marvel Studios finally told fans what Eman Esfandi's character's name is in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it turns out he was the very character he claimed not to be. Spider-Man: Brand New Day had one of the most successful theatrical runs of all time. Alongside passing the $2.5 billion mark, which is an amazing feat on its own, the Spidey flick also swung past Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing movie domestically of all time.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Eman Esfandi (who, speaking of Star Wars, plays Ezra Bridger in live-action in the Ahsoka Disney+ series) portrayed MJ's new boyfriend. He only had around a minute of screen time, but he was an important part of the plot, as it proved MJ had replaced Peter Parker (although she can't be blamed for that because she didn't even know who Peter was, thanks to Doctor Strange's spell).

Acclaimed author Patricia Highsmith has a new story, but it's not the one you might be expecting. A Talent For Murder takes audiences inside the mind of Highsmith, the writer of the Tom Ripley novels (which have been adapted time and time again), in a story that blurs the lines between reality and fiction as a young man arrives on Highsmith's door in Switzerland and tries to convince the reclusive author to write one more story.

A Talent For Murder premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, and while on the red carpet, stars Helen Mirren (Patricia Highsmith), Alden Ehrenreich (Edward Ridgeway), and Olivia Cooke (Clementine Balfour), as well as director Anton Corbijn and writer Joanna Murray-Smith, spoke to The Direct about bringing the twist-filled new thriller to life and which authors they'd personally try to convince to write another book.

A Talent For Murder will be released in US theaters on October 23, 2026. For more TIFF interviews, take a look at The Direct's coverage of the Friday the 13th prequel, Crystal Lake.

The Mandalorian and Grogu introduced many dangerous villains from the galaxy far, far away, wreaking havoc throughout Din Djarin's (Pedro Pascal) main adventure with Grogu. Star Wars' return to the big screen in 2026 focused on Din Djarin and Grogu's mission for the New Republic to search for Imperial remnants after the Empire's collapse and eliminate them.

Mando and Grogu spend the entirety of the film walking into danger, encountering a plethora of threats that range from Imperial warlords, the Hutt Cousins, and a bounty hunter who can rival Din Djarin's skills and expertise. The Mandalorian and Grogu's villains are creatures that aren't poised to be messed with since they are antagonists that range from disposable arena beasts to operators who can reshape sectors of the Outer Rim.

Marvel Studios is taking from the oldie-but-goodie pile as it kicks off its next saga. As announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Phase 7 will feature a Ghost Rider movie, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling. Beyond the director and star, details about the project are scarce, as the powers that be try to keep a lid on things while development continues. But they can't even deny that Ghost Rider is a big risk for the company, since it breaks a nearly 40-year-old tradition.

Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider film won't be the Spirit of Vengeance's big-screen experience. Nicolas Cage rode the flaming bike in two movies: one in 2007 and another in 2011. The first film, also titled Ghost Rider, showed plenty of promise, making it easy for the studio to greenlight a sequel. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance didn't hold up its end of the bargain; it did well enough at the box office but was panned by critics and fans alike.

The MCU's superheroines just got an Avengers: Doomsday poster all to themselves, with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) leading the pack. The cinematic event is closing in on two months until its December 18 release, so more trailers and official footage should be on the way soon. For now, new promotional images keep popping up online, many of them spotlighting Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) and the already-confirmed heroes returning for the crossover. One specific scene locked in on the female heroes teaming up for the first time, teasing a potentially huge moment in Doomsday.

In a new official Avengers: Doomsday image, Marvel Studios is putting four MCU heroines together from four different teams (and three different universes).

Yelena and Sue are clearly the stars of this all-female crossover, which makes sense given their expected impact roles in the movie. Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) join them, placed to the left and right of the blonde heroes.

Olivia Booth-Ford's Sara Grey, the sister of Sadie Sink's Jean Grey, has finally been given time in the spotlight, as Marvel Studios released some HD images of the character from Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sara was introduced in the latest Spidey flick (which recently became the highest-grossing domestic movie of all time) as a telepathic Mutant, just like her sister Jean.

Marvel Studios released the first official look at Booth-Ford's Sara Grey from the flashback scenes that were featured in Brand New Day. Specifically, Sara showed up in these flashbacks, which essentially occurred inside Jean's mind, giving context to Jean's anger and somewhat justifying her actions. Sadie Sink's casting as Jean Grey was one of the worst-kept secrets in Hollywood history, but fans were so focused on her inclusion in the story that Booth-Ford's Sara Grey seemingly flew under the radar.

The digital release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day gave fans their first opportunity to see Sara Grey from her appearance in the flashbacks in Jean's mind. These scenes take place at a park, with Jean and Sara together.

20 years ago, Guillermo del Toro directed his brilliant dark fantasy masterpiece Pan's Labyrinth. It's a magical work full of human and inhuman monsters alike, for a positively unforgettable cinematic ride.  We can finally witness Guillermo del Toro's exceptional cinematic work in glorious, human-crafted 3D.

Guillermo del Toro's filmography is full of films that are both critically acclaimed and popularly lauded. Blade II (starring Wesley Snipes, who appeared again Deadpool & Wolverine), Hellboy, and Hellboy II: The Golden Army set high bars for comic book adaptations, while both The Shape of Water and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio won Oscars for the seasoned genre filmmaker. 20 years later, Pan's Labyrinth might yet be his masterpiece.

The Direct attended the premiere of Pan's Labyrinth's 3D conversion (also celebrating its 4K upgrade) at the beautiful Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, speaking to the film's Oscar-winning DP Guillermo Navarro, star Ivana Baquero, and the iconic creature maestro Doug Jones to discuss its theatrical re-release on October 8, 2026.

Pan's Labyrinth's 3D Release

Vision has made his fair share of enemies over the years. As soon as he came to life in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the titular robot had it out for him because he was meant to be a vessel, not a hero. Thanos then set his sights on Vision in Avengers: Infinity War because of the Mind Stone embedded in his head. However, the Mad Titan didn't get his hands dirty at first, sending Corvus Glaive, a member of the Black Order, to retrieve the gem. Despite losing his life in Infinity War and again in Avengers: Endgame, Corvus is back in VisionQuest; or, at least, part of him is.

With the release of the Disney+ series right around the corner, Marvel Studios is turning up the heat, releasing new clips and images to build hype for its latest project. While most of the new looks aren't anything to write home about, one image stands out: Vision, in his human form, grasping an object and seemingly using it as a power source.
