Star Wars Reveals Boba Fett's Disney+ Release Date Alongside Special First Poster

Star Wars, Boba Fett, Disney Plus

It's been awhile since Star Wars fans have gotten a live-action entry in the franchise, with The Mandalorian having ended last year. It hasn't been completely desolate, though, as The Bad Batch and Star Wars: Visions have both been released over the last few months.

Still, those are a far cry from The Mandalorian, whose third season won't be around until 2022. But not to worry; there's another bounty hunter ready to fill the spot in Boba Fett. Introduced back into the world in Mando's sophomore run on Disney+, the bounty hunter is finally getting the spotlight that fans have wanted to see him in for a long, long time.

Although fans know that Boba Fett is getting his own spin-off show in the form of The Book of Boba Fett, not much is known about the series or its plot. In fact, fans have yet to even get a glimpse of the show at all, or knowledge of when it will drop on Disney+—that is, until today.

Boba Fett Details Revealed

Disney has officially revealed a brand-new poster for The Book of Boba Fett, which shows the titular character sitting on his throne.

Alongside the poster came the release date of Wednesday, December 29 for the new Disney+ series.

Also included in the reveal was a synopsis for the show, which teases Boba Fett "stak[ing] their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt:"

"The Book of Boba Fett, a thrilling Star Wars adventure, finds legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand navigating the galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate."

The Book of Boba Fett stars Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen, and its executive producers include Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist and Carrie Beck will serve as co-executive producers, with John Bartnicki producing and John Hampian as co-producer.

The poster strongly emulates the final shot of The Mandalorian Season 2, which offered the surprise announcement of the spin-off series.

It's Boba Fett's Time to Shine

It feels good to finally know when The Book of Boba Fett is going to drop. Until now, word on the show from Disney had been all-but-silent, and all fans have had to go on about are the whisperings, rumors, and random quotes from the cast and crew.

Strangely enough, the premiere date for Boba Fett's adventure coincides with the current date of the Hawkeye finale, which is curious timing. Either Disney is comfortable having the two premieres at the same time, or Clint Barton's Christmas romp will have to double up on either its premiere or finale.

Either way, it's great to see the wheels starting to turn on The Book of Boba Fett's marketing train. While this poster is exciting, fans probably shouldn't expect to see any actual footage of the show until Disney Plus Day on November 12, when the company is set to reveal brand-new looks and announcements across several key franchises.
