Mandalorian Actor Teases How Boba Fett Mystery Gets Solved In Disney+ Spin-off

The Book of Boba Fett, Sarlacc

Nearly a year since The Mandalorian's post-credits scene revealed that Temuera Morrison's Boba Fett, along with Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand, assumed Jabba the Hutt's throne on Tatooine, Lucasfilm's next live-action series - and the galaxy's most famous bounty hunter - is set to take center stage in The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+.

Developed by The Mandalorian showrunners Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and director Robert Rodriguez, Star Wars fans have high hopes that the 7-episode series won't only continue Fett's story but also explain how the original trilogy character managed to survive his rather anti-climatic death in 1983's Return of the Jedi and how Cobb Vanth obtained his armor

As the show's December 29, 2021 Disney+ premiere approaches, Boba Fett's Temuera Morrison shared a bit of what fans can expect from The Book of Boba Fett while also promising answers to those long-awaited questions.

Boba Fett's Temuera Morrison Promises Answers on Disney+

In talking with SFX magazine about the bounty hunter's past, Temuera Morrison, who plays Boba Fett, claimed, "There will definitely be a number of answers" to Boba's mysterious survival after his previously-assumed death in Return of the Jedi:

"There will definitely be a number of answers. Some long-winded answers. Some short and sharp answers. Some colorful answers. We're filling a lot of gaps."

Boba won't be alone as his new series explores his past along with his new power position on Tatooine.

After saving her life in Season 1 of The Mandalorian, Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen, will be by Boba Fett's side, and their relationship looks to be an important element of The Book of Boba Fett.

According to Wen, who recently voiced her character in the animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Fennec Shand sees "her alliance with Boba Fett as a very smart move:"

"In The Book Of Boba Fett there will be a lot of exploration of the dynamics between Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, how they complement each other, and what they get out of that relationship. He's someone she respects and they have definitely bonded with him saving her. It allowed her to realise that she might be better off not being solo anymore. She sees her alliance with Boba Fett as a very smart move, in the sense that she'll have somebody watching her back. And even though it might be an extra baggage to have to align herself with someone else, the reward for her at the moment is greater."

Wen also noted that her character and Boba Fett have more in common than just their professions. The actress touched on their similar brushes with death, saying, "They both have a vulnerability that they understand:"

"And you know, Boba died – or we thought he did – in the Sarlacc pit, so I think that both of them share those near-death experiences in common. They both have a vulnerability that they understand."

Boba Fett Disney+ Series Explores the Past & Present

To date, much of the Star Wars content fans have received on Disney+ has filled in the glaring gaps between Star Wars trilogies while also telling new, fresh stories and bringing balance to the Star Wars fan base.

Even though The Book of Boba Fett is only Lucasfilm's second live-action series for the streaming service, it looks to do the same by giving fans what they want but in a way that serves a new story and direction.

While fans will enjoy seeing more of Jabba's Palace and an all-but-confirmed return to that fateful Sarlaac pit, both fan-favorite locations are important to the story because they've shaped who Boba Fett has become and what he will do moving forward.

Now, since Fennec Shand's past was briefly visited in The Bad Batch, it will be interesting to see if audiences learn any more about her own history in live-action. However, what her future holds may be more intriguing to fans, especially if her loyalties to Fett are truly based on "the reward for her at the moment."

The Book of Boba Fett is set to premiere on Disney+ on December 29, 2021.
