Robert Pattinson's Batman Sets Sights on the Riddler In New Movie Footage

Batman, Robert Pattinson Movie
By Richard Nebens

The DC Extended Universe is looking forward to a big year in 2022 with new content in theaters and on HBO Max, which includes Matt Reeves' The Batman coming to the silver screens in March. Robert Pattinson will take on a younger version of the Caped Crusader during the hero's first year fighting crime in Gotham City, combatting multiple powerful villains wreaking havoc all over town.

This movie's promotional tour began in August 2020 with a first trailer at DC FanDome, one which only used about a quarter of what needed to be filmed and still set a high bar for Bruce Wayne's next solo adventure. Taking on Colin Farrell's Penguin and Paul Dano's Riddler while trying to find his way as a hero, Pattinson's Dark Knight has plenty of challenges to tackle while protecting his home city.

As 2021 comes to an end, Warner Bros. and the team behind The Batman are slowly increasing their efforts with promotional material before the movie releases worldwide in just under three months. This continues with a fresh international trailer for the film that includes footage that gives a new look at Pattionson's Batman in his first DCEU solo film.

New Batman Trailer with Fresh Pattinson Shots

Warner Bros. released a Japanese trailer for the DCEU's The Batman on its YouTube channel, which featured new shots of Robert Pattinson's Batman and Colin Farrell's Penguin.

The trailer shows a tease of Bruce Wayne's skills as a detective as he finds a board filled with images of himself from newspaper clippings. This could be something made by Paul Dano's Riddler, as it shows Bruce to be a wealthy but reclusive Gotham resident:

More material similar to that board showed an image of Alex Ferns' Pete Savage, the Gotham Police Commissioner. It's likely that Savage is one of various higher-ups in Gotham City that finds a place on this board, although the reason for him being a target is unknown.

The trailer also gives a new close-up look at Robert Pattinson in one of Bruce Wayne's black dress suits. This comes after a car crashes through a nearby door, forcing him to save a nearby civilian before looking up to whoever may be behind the attack:

Wayne sees a group of people walking away from a balcony, although there is one man standing at the edge looking down at the film's main character. It's a mystery who the figure on the balcony is, which will be something that will undoubtedly see more clarity in the full movie:

This new round of footage ends with Pattinson removing his Batman cowl, although there are no signs pointing to who's in front of him or what the surrounding situation is:

Batman and Penguin in for an Intense Battle

The Batman is set to show Robert Pattinson in his earliest days as a superhero while also showcasing the hero's skills as a detective more than any of his past solo movies. There also appears to be some of the same detective work coming from the film's villains like the Riddler and possibly the Penguin, who are all anxious to find out who the new Caped Crusader in town really is.

The rest of the trailer helped expand on shots that fans have already seen in past promotional material, but this one also added a new sense of mystery and intrigue to the real inner workings behind Gotham City's elite. This may hold some of the secrets that Wayne is trying to uncover in the new story, although there are still plenty of questions that need answered in future clips.

The Batman is set to release in theaters on March 4, 2022.
