Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 writer and director James Gunn has already confirmed that the third installment of the franchise will serve as the final adventure of the current iteration of the team. Originally, Vol. 3 was supposed to premiere this year but the film was delayed due to the controversy that surrounded Gunn years ago. However, Gunn was eventually reinstated, but it will be a while before fans get to see the final chapter that completes the Guardians' trilogy.
With a lot of time on his hands, Gunn has been using social media to interact with fans to reveal new details about the franchise through Instagram Q&As as well as Quarantine Watch Parties of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Even though the global pandemic has affected every major production in the entertainment industry, the director has affirmed that plans for Vol. 3 remain on track. While Gunn has shared who has seen the script for Vol. 3, a new reveal from him may have cleared the questions in the minds of many fans about the current development of the film's ever changing script.
In a recent tweet, James Gunn revealed that the script of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 is "long past the first draft."
WHAT THIS MEANS
The latest update from Vol. 3 director James Gunn should be a promising one to fans who are anticipating the release of the third chapter of the trilogy. Given that Phase 4 of the MCU already has a massive line-up of films, it remains to be seen if the movie will still end up in this next phase. Even if it remains on schedule, the next best scenario is for it to be included in the Phase 5 slate of the billion-dollar franchise. Nevertheless, the current development shared by Gunn is a good sign that the film is still being worked on amid the global pandemic.
Taika Waititi, director of Thor: Love and Thunder, has recently shared that the film's delay could be a good sign, since he has a lot of time to polish the film. This goes the same for Gunn, who has the luxury of time when it comes to crafting a well earned finale for his beloved group of misfits. Not much is known about the plot of the next film, but many fans believe that it will revolve around the team's search for the alternate version of Gamora from Avengers: Endgame who ended up in the current MCU timeline. On top of that and the tease from Gunn that someone will die, fans will likely be in for a surprising and emotional finale to cap off the Guardians' trilogy.
