This may be a huge time for both Marvel Studios with the MCU and Lucasfilm with new Star Wars material, but the DC Extended Universe shouldn't be counted out as it prepares for a major comeback later in 2021. Before four new films make their way into the franchise next year, August will bring the debut of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.
While the sequel/reboot will usher in a bevy of new characters like John Cena's Peacemaker and Taika Waititi's Ratcatcher (possibly), the core cast will also include fan favorites from the original 2016 movie such as Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. While there are no specific story details pertaining to Quinn or her teammates, it's clear that she will play a central role in her third DCEU appearance.
The latest image from the franchise's tenth movie once again centers around Robbie's leading lady.
A NEW IMAGE FROM THE SUICIDE SQUAD
An article from USA Today detailing 10 must-see movies of the summer included The Suicide Squad in the DCEU, providing a new image from the film as well. This image can be seen below:
The image includes Daniela Melchior's Ratcatcher 2, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Idris Elba's Bloodsport, Sylvester Stallone's King Shark, and David Dastmalchian's Polka-Dot Man, teasing some sort of trouble for this quintet.
A shot very similar to this one is included at the 1:55 mark of the movie's "Rebellion" trailer.
AN INSANE MISSION FOR THE VILLAINOUS TEAM
As was mentioned before, it's still a mystery what the plot of this highly-anticipated movie will hold. However, with Harley Quinn and her teammates seemingly on the run from something, the danger factor is very much present as the team is sent on their newest mission.
Now that the film is only three months away, promotional material for its release is likely to begin ramping up to a new gear, especially to keep up with studios like Disney with a higher volume of releases. Warner Bros. has its fair share of debuts this summer, but The Suicide Squad will make for its only major superhero film within the DCEU to come out, and the first since Wonder Woman 1984.
The Suicide Squad will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
