The Incomer made waves at its premiere at the Sundance Festival earlier in 2026, and now, it's finally making its way to theaters. Domhnall Gleeson (star of The Paper Season 2), Gayle Rankin, and Grant O'Rourke lead the comedic folk fairy-tale film from Louis Paxton, which sees an awkward council worker, Daniel (Gleeson), upend the lives of siblings Isla (Rankin) and Sandy (O'Rourke) when he arrives on their isolated island home, attempting to rehouse them. What follows is a unique blend of comedy, drama, mythology, and animation, all woven together to create a quirky modern folktale with a touching human story at its heart. 

Filmed among the wilds of the Scottish Highlands, The Incomer has a distinct look and tone, which the cast revealed to The Direct is a "creative miasma" that "you should go and just experience." Names like Taika Waititi and Yorgos Lanthimos were raised as possible tonal comparisons for The Incomer, although the actors were also clear that their film feels quite different in the current landscape.

Challenges on-set of The Incomer ranged from brutally cold swims in the ocean to scenes atop wild and windy cliff edges, with O'Rourke sharing that one scene almost made him pass out. However, Rankin (who has seen plenty of on-set challenges via her role on House of the Dragon) added that filming in the elements "was really immersive," and "certainly added a lot to the film." O'Rourke and Rankin also worked with a movement coach to nail the almost silent relationship between their long-isolated siblings, who "are mostly quiet because they don't really have anything to say after 30 years."

Zombies 5 will introduce a new group of supernatural beings with evil plans to take back where is theirs, according to plot details that surfaced online. Zombies began in 2018 as a Disney Channel Original Movie before expanding into four additional films, an animated series, and even two concert tours featuring songs from the franchise. Arriving in Summer 2027, Zombies 5: Secrets of the Sea will finally introduce the mermaids first teased at the end of Zombies 3, expanding the world established throughout the franchise.

Plot details for Disney’s Zombies 5: Secrets of the Sea emerged online, offering new details about what to expect from the next installment in the franchise. As shared by @DisneyChannelHQ on X via Disney Channel Japan, Zombies 5 will bring together the two factions introduced in Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires, the Daywalkers and Vampires, as they attend school together under the watchful eye of Principal Bucky. A character from the original Zombies trilogy, Bucky has not been seen since Zombies 3 and is reportedly brought back after Zed and Addison, the latter of whom is his cousin, hire him to oversee the school.

Charlie Harper is finally making its way to theaters. The romantic drama from writer-director Tom Dean and co-director Mac Eldridge hits the big screen on Friday, September 25. It follows Harper (Task's Emilia Jones) and Charlie (Nick Robinson), two young people in love who move to New Orleans together. But as Harper chases a culinary career and Charlie struggles to find his path, they start growing in different directions.

Ahead of the film's release, The Direct sat down with Jones and Robinson (the former star of The 5th Wave) to discuss the movie's raw, honest take on life and love.

Both stars were drawn to how real Dean's script felt, with Robinson calling it "very respectful of both characters" and the pair agreeing there's "no villain" in Charlie and Harper's story. Jones even said that anyone who's been through a breakup "kind of needs a Charlie Harper watch."

Brad Bird is an iconic filmmaker, both in animation and live-action, being the man behind classics such as The Incredibles. But for his next animated venture, Bird has left his usual home of Pixar and set up his next adventure at Skydance Media and Netflix: Ray Gunn. 

The film, which hits select theaters on December 4 and Netflix on December 18, follows Sam Rockwell's Raymond "Ray" Gunn, a private eye in the gigantic retro-futuristic city of Metropia. Being one of the last human detectives in a world filled with intergalactic aliens, Ray finds himself taking a high-profile case involving pop star Venus Nova (the MCU's Scarlett Johansson), which thrusts him into the depths of the city's underworlds and a world-shattering scandal.

The Direct was invited to Netflix Animation Studios for a special look behind the curtain of the film, where we were sat down in an interview with Ray Gunn director Brad Bird. He shared why Pixar was not the right home for his new movie—and why Netflix was the perfect one.

Incredibles 3 finally received its first official poster, and it is truly stunning. Now that this year's two Pixar blockbusters, sci-fi animal flick Hoppers and long-awaited sequel Toy Story 5, are in the rearview mirror, Disney's acclaimed animation house is turning attention to its upcoming slate. Next year, audiences can expect the cat-centric gangster comedy Gatto, before 2028 kicks things up a notch with the supernatural Ghost Market and Incredibles 3, which is on the way to "[round] out" Pixar's second-ever movie trilogy.

During the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 Expo, Pixar CCO Pete Docter took to the stage to talk all things Incredibles 3, which is now in production and under two years away from its June 16, 2028. The Incredibles 3 executive producer confirmed that "it's the kids' turn" to take center stage as he unveiled the first-ever poster for the Pixar trilogy-capper.

HBO's Harry Potter revealed the first look at the wands of five main characters, which are completely different from those in the original movies.  As one would expect for a reboot, HBO is taking steps to put its own stamp on Harry Potter by redesigning key elements, such as the castle interior, various costumes, props, and, most recently, the brand-new Hogwarts house crests.

The official Harry Potter Instagram account revealed the best look yet at the new wands belonging to Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, and Neville Longbottom. The wands maintain the same material and specs as the Harry Potter movies, although some appear significantly different.

Even though the Frozen franchise has already broken multiple records for Disney, its streak is poised to continue with the third installment. Frozen 3 will arrive nearly 10 years after its predecessor, picking up with Anna and Kristoff's wedding and introducing a new ice queen villain for Elsa to face. The film is also expected to set the stage for Frozen 4, which has been in development for some time and is predicted to hit theaters in 2028. Frozen 3 finally made headway in the public eye this summer at Disney's D23 convention, where an exclusive trailer and brand-new song debuted for attendees. That trailer, however, also marked a historic moment for the House of Mouse as a whole.

When Frozen 3 debuts in theaters on November 24, 2027, it will break a nearly 90-year Disney tradition by featuring its main princess-turned-queen, Anna, as a married woman for most of the film. She will tie the knot with Kristoff, marking a significant departure from Disney's longstanding approach to its princesses. Traditionally, Disney princesses either do not marry, wait until the very end of their films to tie the knot, or get married in direct-to-video sequels that never receive theatrical releases.

Universal Pictures is keeping fans waiting to stream The Odyssey at home, and that won't be changing anytime soon. Watching The Odyssey at home on a mid-range TV with feet reclined may not be the IMAX 70mm experience that Christopher Nolan intended, but it will be the one of choice for many who skipped out on its theatrical run. The Greek mythology epic has grossed almost $1.7 billion worldwide in the last two months, and it will soon be time for it to come home for digital and physical purchase, to be followed by its streaming debut.

Universal Pictures confirmed that The Odyssey will be released for digital purchase on Tuesday, November 17. The announcement means that The Odyssey is only halfway through its 123-day (four-month) theatrical exclusivity window, despite having already been released two months ago as of writing.

On November 17, The Odyssey will become available for purchase on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, and most major digital storefronts. While fans are still waiting for news on when Christopher Nolan’s latest will join its streaming home, Peacock, his last movie, Oppenheimer, may offer some clues.

Zach Cregger's Resident Evil, which is playing in theaters now, gives the franchise a fresh start in more ways than one. It's a true reset for the decades-old horror franchise, complete with an original tale, a new protagonist, and a fresh look at the unique horrors of the Umbrella Corporation. For anyone who wants a walk-through of the snowy, tentacle-strewn terrors of the new film, The Direct has you covered.

The Resident Evil franchise is a long-running one, with a six-film arc beginning in 2002, followed by Johannes Roberts' 2021 reboot attempt, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. With Cregger coming off the successful duo of Barbarian and Weapons, Sony no doubt hopes the high critical praise and complex horror-comedy tone will fuel a renewed franchise.

The Seemingly Perfect Family is marketed as inspired by true events, but the movie's story is quite similar to a notably tragic murder case of an au pair (and it chooses to rewrite the ending with an unexpected twist). Lifetime's 2026 family thriller, which premiered on the channel on March 15 and began streaming on Netflix U.S. on September 15, follows 18-year-old Lexi Murdoch, who decides to apply for an au pair job with the wealthy Sterling family after she ages out of foster care. While the Sterlings were initially portrayed as the perfect family, cracks began to emerge, and it was later revealed that the marriage was already in shambles at its core. Daniel Sterling is clearly interested in Lexi, while Chelsea assumes the worst of her by accusing her of trying to steal her husband. 

The fact that The Seemingly Perfect Family is sold as "inspired by true events" led fans to wonder what real-life stories served as the blueprint for the Lifetime thriller. The core premise of the film is eerily similar to the murder of 21-year-old French au pair Sophie Lionnet in 2017. 

According to a BBC report in May 2018, Sophie Lionnet left Troyes in Northeastern France in 2016 to improve her English and work as an au pair for Sabrina Kouider and Ouissem Medouni. Koudier became convinced Lionnet was sleeping with Kouider's former boyfriend, Boyzone co-founder Mark Walton. Walton later testified that he had never met Lionnet. The couple interrogated, starved, and assaulted Lionnet for months, filming the sessions and accusing her of being a spy. Under duress, Lionnet eventually confessed, even though she knew she was innocent. Sophie Lionnet's burned remains were later found, and Kouider and Medouni were convicted of murder. 

It's Zach Cregger's post-apocalyptic wasteland, and we're just living in it.  Following up on 2022's hit Barbarian and 2024's Oscar-winning horror-comedy Weapons, Resident Evil sees Cregger's first (and possibly last) turn helming an established horror IP. The Resident Evil horror game franchise is one of the few series that has had no dearth of cinematic adaptations. There have been a whopping seven Resident Evil films, including Paul W.S. Anderson's first in 2002, and the first six following Milla Jovovich's Alice as she seeks to destroy the undead and the Umbrella Corporation with it.  

Sony tried to reboot the franchise with Johannes Roberts' Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which centers its adaptation on the first two games. While it was lauded for its faithfulness to the games, it suffered in critical reception and, while profitable, was a far cry from the success story the studio had hoped for. Planned sequels failed to materialize, and it was announced that Cregger was eyed for a re-reboot in 2024 following his Barbarian success.

While Resident Evil eschews the formal chapter separations that have become his horror calling card, he maintains the careful balance between humor and scares that make these prior films stand out. It delivers just about everything: the dog from The Thing, a sewer-Harkonnen, the best music video for "It's Raining Men" ever, and dangerous levels of medical malpractice wrapped up with a nice bow. It's a scary, ick-inducing but often funny horror outing that will have audiences jumping and squirming for one of the year's best theater experiences.

Ryan Coogler's vicious vampire film starring Michael B. Jordan (which now has a Halloween Horror Nights maze at Universal Studios) was one of the biggest movies of 2025, and its impact is still being felt today, including with what could easily be the biggest film of 2026: Forgotten Island.

Dreamworks' Forgotten Island follows Jo and Liza, played by H.E.R. and Liza Soberano, respectively, two Filipino best friends who unexpectedly become stranded on the mythical Nakali, a legendary place that they've been looking for their entire lives. Obviously, things don't work out as intended, and the duo, alongside Dave Franco's Raww the weredog, must work to piece together lost memories of a crazy night (ala Hangover) in order to find their way back home.

Directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado's previous film, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, featured a terrifying, yet devilishly stylish, villain called The Wolf. That villain is someone that Sinners director Ryan Coogler used as a heavy reference for how his bloodthirsty vampires would look, especially Remmick himself.

One heavily rumored casting for the next James Bond actor just got a boost. Five years have already passed since Daniel Craig bowed out of the coveted James Bond role with his 007's tragic death in No Time to Die. Finally, development has been heating up in the last year, with Dune director Denis Villeneuve signed on to helm the untitled Bond 26 and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight penning the screenplay. Still, Amazon MGM Studios has yet to announce its all-new 007, although the search is officially underway, with reports that the studio is seeking a fresh, younger face, edging out long-rumored contenders like Henry Cavill.

Entertainment betting site Kalshi ignited speculation that Amazon MGM Studios has chosen the next James Bond actor when one long-rumored name was propelled in the odds to become the resounding favorite. The actor in question is the Scottish star of Apple TV+'s Slow Horses, Jack Lowden, who has been heating up in the rumor mill thanks to recent comments from his co-star, Gary Oldman.

At the time of writing (Saturday, September 12), the odds stand at 51% chance for Lowden to be swilling martinis under Villeneuve, followed by Masters of the Air star Callum Turner at 36%, SAS Rogue Heroes actor Jack Barton at 18%, and Gladiator 2 icon Paul Mescal just behind at 10%.

Gal Gadot's new action thriller on Prime Video took a risk with its premise, which proved divisive in reviews. 2026's The Runner, which premiered on Prime Video on September 2, follows Gadot's Maia Marten as she is forced to (literally) run for her son's life. Maia, a London prosecutor and single parent, is held in an impossible situation after a mysterious caller held her diabetic son captive and will let him die unless she crosses the city on foot and kills a protected witness. The movie's premise is interesting, as it's primed for clear tension between Gal Gadot's character and the mystery villain. However, critics noticed a major flaw, specifically with Gadot's actual running in the movie. 

The Runner received a dismal 8% critic score and a 34% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and much of the blame falls on the running of Gal Gadot's Maia, which rarely feels like a life-or-death act. 

Some reviews noted that Gadot's Maia spends much of the film not really looking invested in saving her son. The Wrap described it as a "brisk scamper," noting that her running didn't really convey a sense of desperation or urgency. The movie clearly failed to maximize Maia's panic, and it also didn't help that Gadot's reaction pretty much looks the same for a good chunk of the runtime. 

Mark Ruffalo's next movie will feature multiple stars from the greater Marvel universe, including a big name from Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While Ruffalo has a long history in Hollywood, including four Oscar nominations and other award wins, he has spent the last 14 years starring as Dr. Bruce Banner/the Hulk in the MCU. This has led to a number of appearances alongside other Marvel veterans in other projects since first taking on the enormous green rage monster in 2012.

Netflix confirmed that Mark Ruffalo will star in a new movie titled Good Sex, set for release later this year. This movie is directed and written by Lena Dunham, best known for her work on Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood (2019), Girls (2012-17), and This Is 40 (2012). 

If there's one thing that a majority of the world can agree on, it's that spiders are unsettling, and in some cases, quite terrifying. That's a fear that the 2026 horror movie Don't Move plays off of perfectly, with a man-sized, vicious, killer spider.

The movie follows a local church group, led by Pastor Rizzo (Tom Cavanagh, known for his time as Reverse-Flash on The CW's The Flash), who convinces a grieving widow, Megan Forrester (Lyndsy Fonseca), to join them on their camping trip to get some time away. Things don't go as planned when the group quickly realizes that they set up camp in the wrong area—and right in the backyard of a massive, killer arachnid, one that can track their every movement.

The Direct spoke with the filmmakers and cast of Don't Move at the movie's Los Angeles red-carpet premiere, where they talked about how they built an authentic giant-killer spider and the surprising challenges they faced along the way. The lead stars of Prime Video's Drawn Together (Enfrentandos: Marfil) declared that viewers should not treat the first movie's ending as closed because a sequel is already in the can. The latest Spanish romantic thriller from Prime Video is based on Mercedes Ron's novel Marfil, following an unusual love story between Marfil Cotes (played by Bandidos star Ester Exposito) and her new live-in bodyguard, Sebastian Moore (Hugo Diego Garcia). Marfil is the daughter of a powerful Spanish businessman who was kidnapped and then released without a clear explanation, prompting her father to place her under Sebastian's around-the-clock protection. The pair's forced proximity naturally led to romance, introducing many more twists and turns about who Sebastian really is. 

Drawn Together's ending pulled back the curtain on the lies. As it turned out, Sebastian was not a hired bodyguard since he was an FBI agent in disguise. The kidnapping was staged to scare Marfil's father, Alejandro (Pablo Molinero), who was really a mobster, and force him to cooperate against a rival Russian gang. The movie ended with Marfil's transport to witness protection thwarted by the rival gang after their butler, Logan, betrayed them. The final moments showed Marfil being taken away, and Sebastian was too late. 

Speaking with Fangirlish, Drawn Together lead star Ester Expósito confirmed that the sequel has already been filmed, emphasizing that "people don't have to worry" since the wait for Part 2's release on Prime Video won't be long. Hugo Diego Garcia also promised that the follow-up will be "good:"

Forgotten Island isn't even out yet, but it's been stealing the world's attention and hearts ever since its first screening at CinemaCon earlier this year. The movie, which is Dreamworks' latest animated venture, follows H.E.R.'s Jo and Liza Soberano's Raissa, two Filipino friends who find themselves unexpectedly stranded in the legendary mystical world of Nakali.

One of the first people they meet on the island is Dave Franco's Raww, a local weredog who self-appoints himself as their guide in this strange new world. It shouldn't come as a surprise that the moment audiences saw this character in action, they fell in love.

The Direct sat down with Forgotten Island co-directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the duo behind the fan-favorite movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, to discuss what it's like to create another iconic animated character in Raww, as well as the process of designing Dave Franco's weredog.

Disney showed off a new look at the villain who will drive the story forward in Coco 2. More than a decade after Coco became one of Pixar's biggest hits and one of the 15 highest-grossing animated movies in history (top 30 today), the studio is adding a new chapter to young Miguel's story on November 21, 2019. While plot details are still being kept largely under wraps, one major villain is confirmed to be back.

Disney shared new pieces of concept art for Coco 2 at the 2026 D23 Fan Expo, shared online by Laughing Place. One of those pieces turned the spotlight on the original movie's villain, Ernesto de la Cruz (played by Miss Congeniality star Benjamin Bratt), who has now been confirmed to return in the sequel.

Remain chronicles an intriguing supernatural romance between an unusual pair whose attachment can only find peace once the truth about the woman is brought to light. Remain is a novel co-written by Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan, focusing on the story of New York architect Tate Donovan as he tries to rebuild his life after the loss of his sister. 

Following his recovery from severe depression, Tate travels to Cape Cod to design a summer house, only for him to meet a young woman named Wren. They form an instant connection, leading Tate to unravel disturbing truths about the girl he met. 

Shyamalan and Sparks are collaborating once again for a film adaptation of Remain. Directed by Shyamalan, the film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Bridgerton alum Phoebe Dynevor and is scheduled for release on February 5, 2027.
