Disney+ has quietly disabled a popular search feature on its platform, and there's no telling when or if it will be back. Since its launch in 2019, Disney+ has been the streaming home for all of the brands and titles under the Walt Disney umbrella, including Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, Pixar, and more. The platform has gone through several shifts over the years. Some have meant big changes for content on Disney+, while others have been smaller UX or quality updates.

Recently, it's been noticed that Disney+'s A-Z search feature has disappeared from the platform. This function, which allowed users to browse Disney's catalog of movies and shows in alphabetical order, was popular among users. Now, it seems to be missing from Disney+ entirely.

As Pixar returns to its roots (again) with the Toy Story franchise, it's Jessie taking the reins as the lead this time after being made the new deputy by Woody at the end of Toy Story 4. However, after the cowgirl and the rest of Bonnie's toys struggle with the existential crisis of Bonnie becoming more and more distracted by a new "toy," Woody is called upon for help, reuniting the gang. But the newest tech villain, Lilypad, won't be stopped so easily as she sends Jessie away.

In the final trailer for Toy Story 5, during Jessie's heated confrontation with the villainous touchscreen, Lilypad seemingly puts the cowgirl toy up for auction online to get her away from Bonnie. Further isolating the child from any meaningful interaction with others her age, including her own toys. A callback not only to one familiar villain twist in Toy Story 2, but also to Jessie's sad backstory.

One plot point that outlets have already spoiled for fans is that Jessie will be reunited with her original owner, Emily, who was introduced in Toy Story 2. It seems that in Toy Story 5, Jessie will have to confront a similar internal conflict Woody dealt with after Al from Al's Toy Barn kidnapped him in Toy Story 2.

Netflix's Ladies First introduced David Tennant's daughter as an important part of the movie's story, tied to Rosamund Pike's character. The new comedy is the English-language remake of the 2018 French film I Am Not an Easy Man by Éléonore Pourriat, which flips reality and reverses gender roles. The new world shows women holding dominant positions in society, business, and relationships, while men face sexism and marginalization, typically experienced by women in the real world. 

Ladies First features a cast of A-list actors, headlined by Sacha Baron Cohen, Rosamund Pike, Emily Mortimer, Charles Dance, Tom Davis, Fiona Shaw, and Loki star Richard E. Grant. It premiered on Netflix on May 22.

The cast of Pixar's next movie will be led by a Marvel Cinematic Universe mainstay. While countless stars gained new levels of fame through their work in the MCU, the franchise's biggest names are also widely known across the entire entertainment industry. One of the biggest crossovers with other franchises comes via Pixar movies, which continue to run strong in the 2020s.

Pixar confirmed that Mark Ruffalo will star in Gatto, which will release on March 5, 2027. Specifically, veteran Pixar art designer Gaston Ugarte shared with the OLGA YouTube channel that Ruffalo will play the leading role, portraying a black cat named Nero. Nero is indebted to a feline mob boss and will be forced to forge an unexpected friendship with a street artist.

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has assembled an incredible cast, many of whom will be familiar to Marvel and DC fans. Thanks to the ever-expanding cinematic universes of the MCU and DCU, it's rare to find a Hollywood A-lister who hasn't touched a superhero project. Nolan's newest film has gathered what might be his most high-profile cast list ever, and with that comes a major crossover of Marvel and DC stars (although one notable Nolan regular will be missing).

The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek poem, telling the story of Odysseus and his army as they try to return home after the Trojan War and face a series of dangerous, fantastical obstacles along the way. When audiences head to cinemas on July 17 to see The Odyssey, these are the Marvel and DC stars they'll catch in the new epic.

The film follows a group of employees with varying levels of contempt for one another who are trapped at an impromptu corporate retreat by their disgruntled former CEO, Arthur Scott, played by Succession's Alan Ruck. To survive, they must undergo Arthur's various trials to reach enlightenment, a journey that proves brutal and deadly.

For those who love Lionsgate's Saw franchise, which stars Tobin Bell's iconic killer Jigsaw trapping people to atone for their various sins, this premise will certainly feel familiar. Corporate Retreat puts its own spin on the formula, mainly through its campy, satirical commentary on corporate culture.

Netflix is slowing down its original movie releases, with fewer movies than ever set to debut in 2026's first quarter. Netflix may be known best for its expansive streaming library and hit original series like Stranger Things, Wednesday, Squid Game, and Bridgerton, but it is also home to an ever-growing selection of original movies. These are developed either in-house or licensed for distribution from other studios, and have produced hit originals such as KPop Demon Hunters, Red Notice, Carry-On, The Adam Project, and Bird Box over the years.

According to data gathered by Netflix & Chiffres, the streamer only released 23 original movies in the first quarter of 2026. That figure marks the lowest number of movies released by Netflix in the first quarter of a year since 2018, thus following through on the streamer's plan to reduce its movie output.

Bloomberg reported in October 2024 that Netflix's Chairman of Film, Dan Lin, was aiming to improve quality by "[making] fewer movies and [prioritizing] certain genres." That plan was said to include 25 to 30 movies annually from Lin's domestic team, with the slate buffed up by others around the world.

The Saw franchise has spanned 10 films so far, and while they all follow the same continuity, the story has shifted direction multiple times. The first seven films, Saw to Saw 3D, followed one story. But then, the series saw a seven-year break before returning for Jigsaw.

Jigsaw was meant as a new starting point for the series and followed a deadly game run by a copycat killer. The film introduced new characters to the franchise, including Matt Passmore's Logan Nelson, Hannah Emily Anderson's Eleanor Bonneville, and Clé Bennett's Detective Keith Hunt. Jigsaw wasn't received well and underperformed, leading to another hiatus for the franchise.

While speaking to The Direct about her latest film, Return to Silent Hill, Jigsaw actor Hannah Emily Anderson revealed that there was actually a contract in place for her character, Eleanor Bonneville, to return in future Saw films.

Jack Ryan: Ghost War concluded with a clear setup for future stories, revealing the exciting future of John Krasinski's titular character and setting up potential sequels down the line. Prime Video's Jack Ryan series ran for four seasons before concluding in 2023. 

The story continued in Ghost War, following Ryan after he left the CIA and attempted to build a normal civilian life, only to be pulled back into the dangerous world of espionage.

Pixar set the stage for Jessie's journey in Toy Story 5 ahead of the film's upcoming release in June. The Toy Story franchise will add its first new theatrical entry in seven years in 2026, reuniting Woody and Buzz with the same crew of toys they have known and loved over the first four movies. While those two have been the focal point of the story over the last 30 years, things are about to change moving forward into the next story.

Entertainment Weekly shared new details on what to expect from Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5. Specifically, the report noted that the new sequel "operates mainly as a Jessie movie" after a crazy opening sequence featuring dozens of malfunctioning Buzz Lightyear action figures.

A Minecraft Sequel has officially begun production in New Zealand, and set photos have already surfaced online featuring Jack Black as Steve. Interestingly, the Overworld explorer has received a minor design update, with Black's beard looking more groomed and less scraggly than before, perhaps now that he finally has access to a razor again after returning to Earth after A Minecraft Movie. 

Steve has found himself a new career after returning to Earth, as Black was seen driving a Steve's Lava Chicken RV around the fictional town of Chuglass, Idaho. 

Curry Barker's horror stunner Obsession has infested theaters, shocking audiences with its haunting use of shadow and its clever, frightening scene construction, but mostly with actress Inde Navarrette's incredible, shocking, and multifaceted performance.The film tells the tale of Baron "Bear" Bailey, who cracks a supposedly magical One Wish Willow stick to wish that his crush Nikki Freeman (Inde Navarrette) would love him more than anyone else in the world.

2026's Obsession may never have confirmed whether Nikki really had feelings for Bear, but the movie's star has the answers. Focus Features' new indie horror, Obsession, recently opened to strong reactions and box-office success. It recounts the twisted romance story of Bear (Michael Johnston), who makes a wish with a supernatural toy to have his crush and longtime friend, Nikki (Inde Navarette), love him more than anyone. Of course, in classic horror fashion, Nikki's love goes too far, culminating in terrifying obsession and multiple deaths.

Speaking at an Obsession Q&A event (via @thisbadwitch), Nikki actor Inde Navarette finally confirmed whether her real character had a crush on Bear before the supernatural wish left her madly in love with him. First up, Navarette was open that "Nikki's intentions are really confusing," but that was entirely on purpose because "the whole movie is from Bear's perspective," who is arguably even more in the dark than the audience:

"You're in the car, and Nikki's intentions are really confusing, right? So, it's like, does she like him? Does she not like him? When she's like, 'Tell me right now if you like me or not,' and he goes, 'No, we're just friends." Is there disappointment? Is there not? And that's kind of the point. It's because the whole movie is from Bear's perspective."

Dune Part 3 will push House Atreides to the forefront as Paul Atreides' complex rule as Emperor of Arrakis begins. The upcoming film is set roughly 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two, chronicling the story of House Atreides as they navigate the reality that Paul is the most powerful human in history and is worshipped as a messiah.

Disney revealed a new look at its upcoming sequel to a decades-long animated franchise. The major Hollywood studio has acquired many legendary brands over the years, and a popular 20th Century Fox animated saga has now entered the House of Mouse. 

Disney provided a closer look at the new installment, revealing footage and a logo for Ice Age 6. The five existing Ice Age films have generated over a billion dollars since the franchise began in 2002. In 2026, Disney will release its first official Ice Age sequel since acquiring 20th Century Fox, and the movie was a highlight of the studio's CinemaCon presentation in April. The presentation featured art and footage from Ice Age: Boiling Point, set to release on February 5, 2027. 

The new title art for Ice Age: Boiling Point highlights six main characters: Manny (Ray Romano), Ellie (Queen Latifah), Sid (John Leguizamo), Diego (Denis Leary), Scrat, and his adorable companion, Baby Scrat, who was introduced in the Disney+ shorts series, Ice Age: Scrat Tales. 

Disney Animation Studios may have quietly revealed its next potential princess with the upcoming animated movie Hexed. Set to release this fall, the original film follows a teenage girl who discovers she has powerful magical abilities. While Disney has not officially marketed Hexed as part of the Disney Princess franchise, early details and the character’s design have already sparked speculation that she could eventually join the iconic lineup that began nearly 90 years ago.

Although Disney has not officially positioned Billie, the teenage heroine of Hexed, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, as the company's next princess, the character already appears to check several boxes that could eventually make her the 14th official Disney Princess.

Jumanji: Open World received high praise from the press and CinemaCon 2026 attendees, and they are all saying the same thing about the Dwayne Johnson-led movie. The upcoming adventure comedy is the third installment in Sony Pictures' modern Jumanji reboot series. It flips the franchise's formula with a high-stakes, reality-bending premise: the chaotic world of Jumanji escapes the video game and slips into the real world. To prevent the madness, the original gang of characters must work together with their teenage counterparts to save both realities. 

The first reactions to Jumanji: Open World emerged online after Sony Pictures showed footage from its CinemaCon 2026 panel to attendees in April 2026. The reactions had a clear consensus: they all praised the sequel's trailer as "fun," mainly for its ambitious scope, hilarious new twists, and creature invasions that paid tribute to the 1995 original film, led by the late Robin Williams. 

Zack Snyder's latest Instagram post ignited hopes that he may have a future at DC Studios. Ever since he finally completed Zack Snyder's Justice League for HBO Max, the divisive director has primarily been entangled with Netflix. Snyder developed multiple original movies for the streamer, including Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead, both of which were once intended to spawn larger universes but have since been abandoned. More recently, the filmmaker shot his passion project, a war drama called The Last Photograph, on locations around the world last year.

Director Zack Snyder took to Instagram to share a photo from Paramount Pictures, saying that he is "poking around the back lot in Hollywood as we start work on our new project." That project may not be Zack Snyder's Justice League 2, but the news has drummed up excitement among fans of his DCEU work.

Community's Jim Rash, who will soon be seen in the long-awaited Community film, directed and wrote a new HBO Max film, Miss You, Love You, that puts the spotlight on the legendary Allison Janney. The movie follows Janney's Diane Patterson, a grieving widow trying to keep it together as she plans her husband's funeral while her estranged son refuses to take the time to visit. Instead, her son sends an assistant in the form of Andrew Rannells' Jamie Simms, a stranger who soon becomes just what she needs.

The Direct caught up with Miss You, Love You star Allison Janney on the red carpet premiere of the HBO Max film, which hits the streaming service on May 29. We discussed how excited she was for the role and how special she feels the project was for her and her career.

Janney made it clear that while she's "had some great roles" in the past, she "[doesn't] get offered roles like ['Miss You, Love You'] in [her] career." Diane Patterson was someone with "a huge story" and "a big journey to go through."
