Loki Writer Addresses Season 2 Possibilities

Loki Season 2
By Tom Drew

With Loki arriving shortly as the MCU's next television outing, Marvel Studios is going full steam ahead with its promotion for the Disney+ series.

Several bits of promo material have been released, including several scenes of Loki's time in the TVA headquarters from the season premiere. The marketing hasn't just stopped at promotional clips either, as new merchandise has also been announced ahead of the series debut.

Not only will Tom Hiddleston's Loki get another new Funko Pop! figure to commemorate his own solo project, but his mischievous image will also be plastered onto a new Loki Charms cereal.

Even prior to the first season's release, many are wondering whether Loki will receive a second season.

Following fan discussion and rumors circulating about a potential season 2Loki's head writer has commented on the future of the series...

In an interview with Murphy's MultiverseLoki head writer Michael Waldron addressed the future of the series and the rumors of a possible second season.

While Waldron did not confirm the existence of a season 2 outright, he did mention that Loki's first season "would stand on its own." On the future of Loki's story beyond its initial run, the writer aptly said that "time will tell:"

"It was really always my hope and intention with this to tell a complete story with this season. Season 1 would stand on its own and, you know, is there more story to tell in the future? I don't know, time will tell."

Of the MCU Disney+ projects that have released so far, Loki arguably lends itself best to multiple seasonsWandaVision wrapped up the Scarlet Witch's story relatively neatly with a fitting dovetail into the Doctor Strange sequel, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will likely have to undergo a few changes if it were to return for a second outing following Captain America 4

With plenty of time periods for Loki to play around with, there is limitless potential for the God of Mischief to continue for more episodes down the road.

Even if Loki does not come back for season 2, it is reassuring that the first season will provide a complete story arc for Tom Hiddleston's character. Rumors suggest that multiple versions of Loki could be infesting the timeline in some way, so perhaps this could drive a central narrative of Loki confronting who he is, who he could be, and who he wants to be.

Loki premieres on Disney+ on June 9, 2021.
