Even after four high-octane Disney+ shows and two thrilling blockbuster movies started the MCU’s Phase 4, Marvel Studios is far from done bringing thrilling new stories to the fray.
Admittedly, most of the hype is centered on the imminent release of Chloé Zhao’s Eternals and the internet-breaking Spider-Man: No Way Home in December. But Disney+ still has another special outing as well in Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, the first solo series for the 10-year MCU veteran.
Marvel released the first trailer for Hawkeye nearly two months ago, giving the first look at Clint Barton’s next attempt at retirement after Avengers: Endgame. Not only did it showcase new Avenger Kate Bishop played by Hailee Steinfeld, but it also highlighted Clint going full dad-mode as he celebrates Christmas with his three children.
Considering the family dynamic is sure to play a key role in Hawkeye’s next adventure, some were wondering where the matriarch of the Barton family was during that first trailer. Now, thanks to the show’s next round of promotional material, that question is definitively answered.
Mama Barton Returns for Hawkeye Series
The second trailer for Marvel Studios' Hawkeye confirmed that Linda Cardellini will reprise her role as Laura Barton in the six-episode Disney+ series.
This will mark Cardellini's third MCU appearance after roles in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron and 2019's Avengers: Endgame.
Linda Cardellini Back For More MCU Action
After proving her status as the perfect match for Clint Barton, Linda Cardellini is now confirmed to play some kind of role in the hero’s first MCU solo outing.
Cardellini’s introduction helped bring a level of shock value to Avengers: Age of Ultron as Barton took the Avengers off the grid during the melee against a certain genocidal robot. Her dusting in Avengers: Endgame also set the stage for the devastation in the MCU’s most grand-scale movie to date, sending Clint into a frenzy as his family disappeared and starting his dark journey as the vigilante Ronin.
In the first trailer for Hawkeye, Renner's former Avenger was shown on a phone call as he told the unknown person on the line that he would have to be out of town for a couple of days. While many fans assumed it was Barton's wife Laura taking in this new information, this trailer confirms that she will again play a part in his superhero career.
The only real question now is how many of the six episodes Cardellini will star in, particularly with so much superhero action coming from the two leading archers. Regardless, any man is only as good as the woman standing beside him, which Marvel is making sure to showcase by bringing Laura Barton into the fray with the rest of her family.
Hawkeye is set for a two-episode premiere on Disney+ on November 24, 2021.
