2021 has been a fantastic return to form for Marvel Studios after the empty year that was 2020. In fact, fans have gotten more than they ever would have thought possible just a few years ago.
Up to this point, there have been four television shows and two movies—with Eternals set to be the next project being released. The trailers for the upcoming cosmic epic look to be on a scale unheard of outside of the core Avengers film. After all, how could it not be massive when it's set to properly introduce Celestials into the MCU mythology?
After that is a show that will mark the end of 2021 when it comes to the Disney+ offerings: Hawkeye. The show stars Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton, as well as MCU newcomer Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop.
Now, the first trailer for the show is here, and with it came some interesting reveals. One of those is none other than the return of Clint's Ronin outfit from Avengers: Endgame—but in an unexpected way.
Ronin is Back
The brand-new Hawkeye trailer premiered, and it showed off a lot of new elements within that show that fans didn't know about.
Clint's past as Ronin is coming back, but in a surprising way—Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop is seen unmasked in the Endgame costume.
Fans knew that Kate Bishop was going to play a big role, but no one guessed that she would don the Ronin outfit.
There's no doubt that the two's relationship is going to start out on the wrong foot as Clint probably isn't so thrilled that Bishop is parading around as his former persona.
But why is Steinfeld under that hood? What is she trying to accomplish? It's likely that the Tracksuit Mafia has done something to her personally or to someone in her life, and the Endgame Ronin attire is what she chose to instill some fear into them. But how did she even get the suit in the first place?
Jeremy Renner's Clint certainly looks surprised to see the outfit in the wild, especially since it wasn't him wearing it.
It would seem that Kate isn't so good at keeping a low profile, as she gets caught on the news, and Clint catches up with her, something that seems to happen fairly quickly.
One of the more mysterious shots of the trailer shows someone in the Ronin outfit in front of a bunch of people in costumes. It doesn't seem like it's Kate Bishop, but it's hard to make out any exact details.
Hawkeye, Kate, and the Ronin Legacy
With the history that the costume brings up for Clint, it's no surprise that he makes a move to leave his family for a little while as he solves the issue. After all, it probably isn't great for his children to hear about all the people he slaughtered, though they probably already know at least a little about it.
Hawkeye has been rumored to take a deeper dive into Clint's time as Ronin during Avengers: Endgame, and after the Blip in general, for quite some time now. So, seeing that it factors heavily into Hawkeye's proceedings, it isn't all that surprising.
The biggest question with all of this is just how did someone else get ahold of the Ronin outfit? Is it even the same one? Last year, The Direct exclusively revealed that Florence Pugh's Yelena was set to arrive in Hawkeye, and at some point, she would be donning Ronin attire; so will she also be wearing the same suit? Or is the costume possibly a part of a larger organization?
The news seemed to know about the reputation of the Ronin suit, so seeing an exploration into what it means to the world is going to be an interesting angle to witness.
Fans will have to wait until November 24 this year to get some firm answers to all of these questions, but if the trailer is any indication, Hawkeye is going to be a joyful Christmas adventure.
