The recent series finale of WandaVision proved to be a controversial one among the fan base as it delivered a solid 50 minutes of emotion, heartbreak, and action. Through the two-month run of the Disney+ epic, the many mysteries of the plot led fan theories to go wild as viewers devised ideas of insane twists and reveals that sadly never came.

While there were many viral theories, there was possibly none bigger than the prediction that Marvel's devil Mephisto would be revealed as the big-bad of the series. Unlike most MCU properties, the series went the significant majority of its run time with no real villain or threat , leaving many to wonder who exactly Wanda would be taking on in the climactic moments .

Obviously, this ended up being Agatha Harkness , a neighbor to the couple who was revealed to be a Salem witch hell-bent on absorbing Wanda's power for herself. This was a reveal many predicted, but fans continued to be sure there was more.

A key point of speculation was Agatha's pet rabbit Señor Scratchy who appears numerous times throughout the series and yet served no real purpose in the story. Despite this, it seems the writers did have bigger plans from the furry creature that sadly never saw the light of day.

WANDAVISION DIRECTOR REVEALS CUT ACTION SEQUENCE

In an appearance on Kevin Smith's podcast , WandaVision director Matt Shakman has revealed details of a cut action scene from the finale that would've revealed the true form of Agatha Harkness' rabbit Señor Scratchy.

The director revealed the scene — which was cut due to the “many different chess pieces” of the finale — would've seen Darcy, Monica, the boys, and Ralph consider stealing the Darkhold from Agatha's basement:

"We did have something more planned for Señor Scratchy that we ultimately couldn't do because the finale had so many different chess pieces. But we did have a whole sequence where Darcy, Monica, and Ralph meet up with the kids in Agatha's house, and they think they should steal the Darkhold from the basement because the kids had seen it when they were down there being held hostage by Agatha."

The scene would've gone on to see the seemingly innocent rabbit go through an “American werewolf in London transformation” in which he would turn into a demon leading to a “Goonies set-piece” styled chase:

"And they go down there to get the book and the rabbit hops up in front of the book. And they're like 'Oh it's Señor Scratchy he's the best' and they reach over to pet him. And then this whole American werewolf in London transformation happens and the rabbit turns into this big demon. And then this whole Goonies set-piece ensues where they try to escape from the rabbit."

Shakman confirmed the scene was shot, however, the CGI was never finished for it. While he admits that "it was a great sequence," it marked a "huge detour" in the plot, leading to its eventual cutting:

"We shot it, but we didn't finish all the VFX stuff for it. It was a great sequence, it was super fun, everyone was great in it. But we ended up moving it aside because it was a huge detour in the middle of everything else we had going on."

WAS MEPHISTO CUT FROM THE WANDAVISION FINALE?

The name Señor Scratchy in itself holds multiple magical Marvel references that would seem to imply a greater meaning to the creature than just being a rabbit by Agatha's side.

Firstly, Nicholas Scratch is the name of Agatha Harkness' villainous son in the comics, making it possible that the rabbit could be Scratch transformed by Agatha into animal form for unknown reasons. But it's equally possible this was merely a subtle reference to the character, as the demonic description of the cut transformation scene doesn't seem to match Scratch.

Alternatively, when translated from Spanish to English, Señor Scratchy becomes Mr. Scratchy, an extremely similar name to Mr. Scratch, a common pseudonym for the devil. With the persistent references to Mephisto throughout the series and the description of a demon transformation for the rabbit, it's hard to believe this scene wasn't intended to be the devil's reveal.

If this is the case, Mephisto is a major Marvel villain , and cutting him from this minor throwaway role was the right decision. A threat on the level of the devil himself warrants the position of the main villain in a blockbuster film , potentially even serving as an Avengers-level threat down the line.

It's unfortunate the scene was cut as what's described sounds like it would have provided a unique action scene to break up the fairly repetitive nature of others found in the finale. But given the scene was shot, it's possible it may see the light of day at some point, even if that is with the absence of finished CGI.
