Thor: Love and Thunder is set to bring back Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder for his fourth solo adventure in the MCU, while also showcasing the return of a franchise mainstay in the form of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster

Directed by Taika Waititi, the upcoming fourth installment of the Thor franchise will depict the transformation of Jane Foster into the Mighty Thor, but details of how this will happen are still being kept under wraps. Aside from Hemsworth and Portman, Love and Thunder is expected to feature an ensemble cast of returning and new characters to the MCU.

The Guardians of the Galaxy, which consists of the likes of Chris Pratt's Star-Lord, Dave Bautista's Drax, and Karen Gillan's Nebula, has been confirmed to make a comeback. Meanwhile, Team New Asgard will also return, which includes Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, Korg, and Miek.

Aside from a powerhouse cast of heroes, Love and Thunder is also filled with star-studded cameos. Melissa McCarthy portrays a fake version of Hela in the film alongside Thor: Ragnarok's theater actors who will be played by Sam Neill, Luke Hemsworth, and Matt Damon. In addition, Russel Crowe will also play Zeus in the MCU movie.

Now, one of the stars of the film has broken his silence about his Marvel return.

MATT DAMON OPENS UP ABOUT THOR 4 RETURN

Via ComicBook, Matt Damon sat down as a guest on Sirius XM to talk about his return to the MCU in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder.

While confirming his comeback, Damon shared that he will reprise his role as performer Loki alongside Luke Hemsworth's actor Thor in the film, teasing that they will "kind of run that joke back" from Thor: Ragnarok and "upgrade it a little bit:"

"I don't know if it's secret or not, though everybody knows. I went down there to shoot. I think they sussed out, because paparazzi took pictures of us so that they sussed out what we were doing. We were kind of reprising a cameo that we, that Luke Hemsworth and I did in the last one. And we had a ball and so Taika [Waititi] had us back again, to kind of run that joke back and upgrade it a little bit."

PERFORMER LOKI RETURNS IN LOVE AND THUNDER

Matt Damon's latest confirmation that he will return as performer Loki is a positive development, and creates intrigue on how the character will fit into the narrative of Thor: Love and Thunder

Damon's tease that Taika Waititi and the rest of the crew will "upgrade" the theatre play humor from Thor: Ragnarok is a welcome sight. It's possible that the sequence in the upcoming film will dial up the comedic tone even more while also involving some major characters from New Asgard.

To recap, in Thor: Ragnarok, it was Tom Hiddleston's Loki who monitored the proceedings of the theatre play where it depicted the major moments from Thor: The Dark World. In Love and Thunder, there's a chance that Valkyrie could oversee it as a way to reenact the pivotal moments from Ragnarok and the start of Avengers: Infinity War, thus serving as a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for Asgard.

Damon's performer Loki could simply be portrayed as one of the heroes of Asgard during the theatre play, especially after his valiant effort to prevent Hela from her conquest. Given Waititi's comedic expertise, there's a strong chance that this specific sequence will be infused with humorous elements that could very well top the Ragnarok theatre scene.

Tom Hiddleston, the original Loki actor, already expressed his excitement about Damon's upcoming return in the film, admitting that he "can't wait" to see what the actor will do this time around. If anything, Hiddleston's comment combined with Damon's tease should excite fans about the return of performer Loki in the next Thor adventure.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to premiere in theaters on May 6, 2022.
