Fans were shocked when Natalie Portman was announced to return as Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder at 2019's San-Diego Comic-Con. Not only that, but that she would wield Mjolnir as The Mighty Thor.
Before production wrapped, no photos of Portman in costume were ever captured. The only clues fans had was a wig that wasn't for Chris Hemsworth and set photos from production that showed off the results of Portman’s intense training.
However, fans no longer had to wait as a new crew member's t-shirt was leaked, finally showing off The Mighty Thor in all her glory, including Mjolnir. The last time fans saw the original hammer in one piece, barring Avengers: Endgame, was Thor: Ragnarok when it was shattered into a dozen pieces by Hela.
Although, upon closer inspection, the Mjolnir being held by Foster on the t-shirt has a few familiar cracks in it.
MJOLNIR REFORGED IN THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
Looking closer at Mjolnir, there are several distinct cracks all over it. Unless this hammer is from another universe in which it was also destroyed and reformed, it seems that this will be the same Mjolnir last seen in Ragnarok but in one piece again.
This would also imply that Natalie Portman's Jane Foster in Love and Thunder won't be from another universe either as many fans have speculated.
CANCER STORYLINE MORE PLAUSIBLE
Considering this revelation puts to rest any multiversal shenanigans in Thor: Love and Thunder, it gives even more credence to the film adapting Jane Foster's cancer storyline from the comics. It also makes the altar for the pieces of Mjolnir, as seen in set photos from earlier this year, make a lot more sense.
the asgardians making an entire memorial area for the rock odin died on and for the shards of mjolnir from when hela destroyed it in the thor: love and thunder set pics... someone check on them and see if they’re okay pic.twitter.com/jpLKEPqFf9
As this will be the same Jane Foster and not another variant, it will give Taika Waititi the chance to revitalize the character as he did with the God of Thunder. It would be interesting to see where Foster has been all this time, how she'll get involved with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and her facing down Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher.
Thor: Love and Thunder is currently scheduled to release in theaters on May 6, 2022.
