The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's latest promo revealed that the sequel will retcon the games by reversing the roles of Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Rosalina (Brie Larson). Princess Peach has mostly been the damsel in distress in Nintendo's Super Mario games, and her role is no different in The Super Mario Galaxy video game, where she was captured by Bowser to facilitate his plans for galactic domination. As a result, Mario was prompted to travel into the cosmos to save her. However, it seems that Princess Peach's missing situation in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be given to another character.
Nintendo released a brand-new promo for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie featuring R.O.B., and it spoiled the fact that Rosalina has gone missing. This revelation seems to be a change from the games, meaning Rosalina will be absent in the public's eyes instead of Princess Peach.
In the game, Rosalina is the guardian of the Comet Observatory who assists Mario in his search for Princess Peach. Given that she is missing in the sequel, it is possible that Rosalina will leave her post at the Observatory to help Mario stop the sinister plans of Bowser and Bowser Jr., rather than being kidnapped.
It also seems unlikely that Rosalina can be easily kidnapped in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, given that the film's marketing has cemented her as a strong, formidable character with several powers that can topple any enemy in her path.

Making Rosalina "missing" in the public eye is a clever way to keep the story of The Super Mario Galaxy movie fresh.
The fact that the Super Mario movies have already established that Princess Peach has moved away from her damsel-in-distress persona also hints that a possible team-up between Rosalina and her is in the cards for the sequel, which could lead to memorable action sequences.
Still, there are unique storytelling possibilities if the sequel were to introduce a twist that allows The Super Mario Galaxy Movie villains to trick and possibly kidnap Rosalina. The movie could raise the stakes by allowing Bowser and Bowser Jr. to target Rosalina, transforming her from a cosmic protector to the one who actually needs saving.
Rescuing Rosalina would not be about simply reuniting her with Mario and the others. Instead, saving her would elevate the stakes because it would boil down to preserving the balance of the entire universe and protecting the Lumas. Many would argue that this plot point would actually make The Super Mario Galaxy Movie a more compelling big-screen entry since it would further flesh out a new character like Rosalina and push her to the forefront.
