HBO's Harry Potter is officially changing Hogwarts' house logos. One of the Harry Potter franchise's most infamous staples is the four houses into which students are sorted when they arrive at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The students are assigned their houses by the all-seeing, all-knowing Sorting Hat based on their personalities and characteristics, later competing for their house in the annual House Cup and, for a lucky few, on the Quidditch pitch.

HBO and Warner Bros. officially revealed the next generation of Hogwarts house crests, which will be featured in the upcoming Harry Potter reboot show, one of which fixes a major error from the original eight movies. The revised symbols were showcased as part of the marketing for the September 1 annual Back to Hogwarts event, which will debut a new Season 1 trailer.

The Gryffindor lion roars proudly on the red-and-gold banner, representing the house's values of courage, bravery, and standing up for what is right, just as its founder, Godric Gryffindor, once did, and people like Harry have gone on to.

A new report revealed whether Paramount plans to keep James Gunn in place as DC Studios co-CEO after it acquires Warner Bros. Paramount Pictures and its CEO, David Ellison, are currently striving to overcome legal obstacles to acquire Warner Bros. and, with it, DC Studios. The expected shift in ownership has left many wondering whether James Gunn will keep his job as the DCU's figurehead after the merger. Paramount recently agreed to pause its merger with Warner Bros. until June 2027, or when a judge issues a final verdict on the legal challenges from certain U.S. states and Hollywood unions.

Speaking on a recent edition of The Hot Mic podcast, insider Jeff Sneider declared that James Gunn "will [stick around]" at DC Studios if Paramount's Warner Bros. acquisition goes through, noting that he "just extended" his deal. The scoop follows other recent reporting that Gunn will keep his role as head of the DCU amid fears he may be replaced by a new Paramount-selected figurehead.

It's unclear whether Sneider is referring to a new contract extension for Gunn and Safran, or the same one that the pair revealed to Bloomberg in December 2025. While the duo's original four-year deal was expected to lapse in October 2026, they officially extended their agreements through to Spring 2027, securing their future until just months before Man of Tomorrow releases on July 9, 2027.

DC Studios is building an impressive Legion of Doom roster under everyone's noses, introducing its fifth and potentially most powerful member. Lanterns' story has focused mainly on the Manhunter threat in its first two episodes. Hal Jordan and John Stewart realize that something fishy is going on in Rushville, Nebraska, and eventually learn that a Manhunter is likely the one pulling the strings.

Despite being a seasoned member of the Green Lantern Corps, Hal doesn't know much about Manhunters, at least not enough to get his trainee up to speed. Instead, he throws on his old suit and travels from Earth to an intergalactic prison holding his former mentor, Sinestro. Hal asks Sinestro what he knows about the Manhunters, but the prisoner is more interested in John, claiming the rookie is the greatest threat Earth's current Green Lantern faces.

The Batman: Part 2 set photos revealed a major (and quite disturbing) moment involving the Batmobile, raising the stakes for the DC Elseworlds sequel. Production for the Robert Pattinson-led sequel, set to release on February 18, 2028, has been well underway in London, and set photos have provided fans with clues on what to expect in the next chapter of Matt Reeves' grounded DC story. The Batman: Part 2 photos that emerged online gave viewers their first clear look at the updated Batsuit design of Pattinson's Bruce Wayne, while its Semper Vigilans logo hints at a potential Court of Owls connection that could place everyone in Bruce Wayne's inner circle in danger. 

Brand-new set photos from The Batman: Part 2 (via @MacFadyenAlan on X) spoiled a major Batmobile moment in the upcoming sequel, offering the first clear look at the destroyed Bat vehicle. This major moment could prove that Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne faces a crucial setback in his attempt to save Gotham from whatever newfound threat he is facing. 

The set photos revealed that the Batmobile is no longer serviceable, showing its body panels crushed, wheels exposed, and extra debris accumulating around it. It seems unlikely that a monster-like villain could have destroyed the Bat vehicle, but previous set videos might already have revealed the reason for its current state. 

DC is bringing back James Gunn's Suicide Squad later this year, but not in the way that many were hoping for. Task Force X received its first ensemble flick under director David Ayer in the DCEU, introducing Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and transforming her into a global icon. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn would later soft-reboot the anti-hero unit in The Suicide Squad, marking his first go-round at DC before becoming co-CEO of DC Studios.

The Suicide Squad is officially returning as part of a new DLC for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, serving as antagonists to the newly playable Joker and Harley Quinn. Interestingly, the brick-built Task Force X is closely inspired by the roster and designs from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad (with a touch of David Ayer's Suicide Squad), but one key character has been omitted for a great reason.

TT Games released the first trailer for Legacy of the Dark Knight's new Joker and Harley-focussed Mayhem Collection DLC, which also includes a fresh story mission and the new Mayhem mode. The duo can be randomly attacked by any four members of Amanda Waller's Task Force X (better known as the Suicide Squad, but they are not referred to by that more adult moniker in a LEGO game).

James Gunn's DC just debuted its historic, first-ever Joker, and he looks more menacing than ever. The Clown Prince of Crime is one of the most iconic villains in Batman lore, and, naturally, he's been adapted into various DC media over the years. Now, almost four years after Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios in late 2022, the studio is finally adapting its own take on the Ace of Knaves. While the Clown Prince of Crime featured in 2024's Joker: Folie à Deux, DC Studios had nothing to do with the musical sequel, which was instead a product of Warner Bros. Pictures and director Todd Phillips.

DC Studios recently debuted its first Batman project in Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2, an Elseworlds-style production that also involves Warner Bros. Animation, Amazon MGM Studios, and Bad Robot. Even though Caped Crusader doesn't belong in Gunn's DCU, the Bruce Timm and J.J. Abrams series marks DC Studios' first-ever attempt at the Joker. But this is only the beginning for the Joker at DC Studios, who recently announced more plans for the villain.

DC Studios and HBO might have tipped their hand on Lanterns Episode 2 months before anyone noticed. The series, led by Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), has opened to major praise from critics and fans alike. It's mix of small-town mystery with galactic DCU lore has been a symphony this far, and that balance has only gotten stronger through the second episode, which aired on Sunday, August 23. Now, with fans revisiting a poster released earlier this summer, it looks like the clue was there all along, just waiting to be noticed.

Looking back, a Lanterns poster from June hides the clue in plain sight. The image is built around a reflection: John and Hal standing over still water, the Green Lantern ring resting at the center of the reflection, and the Green Lantern oath, "In brightest day, in blackest night," presented vertically.

The Justice League is steadily coming together in the DCU, and despite no appearances from The Flash thus far in the new cinematic universe, the team may already have a perfect replacement. The traditional Justice League lineup in DC Comics has always featured the Scarlet Speedster, and that tradition was upheld in the previous DCEU, where Ezra Miller played Barry Allen, aka the Flash. The DCU is still just in its infancy, but it's already assembled an array of Justice League heroes across different projects that will come together in 2027's Man of Tomorrow.

One recent addition to the Man of Tomorrow cast is Xolo Maridueña's Jaime Reyes, aka Blue Beetle. Maridueña was introduced right as the DCEU was transitioning into the new DCU, which led James Gunn to call Blue Beetle one of the DCU's "first" characters. Gunn is now making good on that promise by including Blue Beetle in his wider universe plans, with Maridueña now one of several actors playing a potential Justice League character in Man of Tomorrow.

Lanterns Episode 3 has confirmed the meaning behind the bird that John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) conjured throughout Episode 2. The HBO Max series follows Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), Earth's current Green Lantern in 2016, as he reluctantly trains his protege, Stewart, in the ways of being a superhero, whilst also investigating extraterrestrial mysteries in Rushville, Nebraska. In Episode 2, Jordan instructed Stewart on how to fly, only for the trainee to use the ring to construct a green bird instead.

Jordan tasked Stewart with keeping the bird alive throughout the whole episode, and when he returned to Rushville with it still intact, Jordan commented that the bird "must mean something pretty deep" to Stewart. The trainee brushed it off at the time, but the meaning of the bird to Stewart has been revealed in a new preview clip from Lanterns Episode 3.

In the sneak peek posted by HBO's official social accounts, the scene takes the story back to 1996, when John Stewart is still a young boy. His father tells him he's "gonna be the Green Lantern when [he] grows up," which is why he's treated differently from his brothers. 

Ego the Living Planet wreaked havoc in a James Gunn project, and his spiritual successor in the DCU is gearing up to follow in his footsteps. HBO's Lanterns promised to flesh out the galactic corner of DC Studios' franchise. And through two episodes, it's been a show of its word. Hal Jordan consistently drops tidbits about his adventures in space, such as his run-in with the Green Lantern who resembles a squirrel, Ch'p.

In Lanterns Episode 2, "Trust Fall," Hal mentions someone a lot larger than Ch'p in a conversation with John Stewart. John visits Hal's house in Coast City to pick up the battery that will charge his Power Ring, but he needs a passcode to access the vault. Hal is happy to provide it, saying, "Mogo doesn't socialize."

The phrase directly references Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' story in Green Lantern (vol. 2) #188, about a sentient planet called Mogo that joins the Green Lantern Corps. Despite being righteous, Mogo doesn't enjoy brushing shoulders with his fellow peacekeepers. That hasn't stopped evildoers from trying to take advantage of his great power, though, making him a galactic threat on the same level as Marvel's Ego.

Batman: Knightfall Part 1 pushed several DC villains into the spotlight, showcasing Batman's most personal and punishing story yet. The first DC Studios-produced Batman movie, released on all digital platforms on August 25, serves as the first installment in a three-part R-rated animated film trilogy from Warner Bros. Animation, focusing on Bane's introduction as he orchestrates a breakout from Arkham Asylum. This strategy is meant to push Batman to the limit as Bane unleashes Batman's entire rogue's gallery on Gotham. 

Batman does whatever it takes to recapture the escaped villains one after another, but the constant battles and the race against time to save everyone left him increasingly exhausted, injured, and mentally strained. While he has allies like Tim Drake and a complex newcomer named Jean-Paul Valley (aka Azrael) by his side, Batman is clearly overwhelmed.

Every Major Batman Villain Who Appeared in Batman: Knightfall Part 1 

A sneaky detail in James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow filming wrap announcement might have confirmed that the DCU sequel will return to a familiar location from Peacemaker Season 2. DC Studios' John Cena-led series directly set up major plot points in Man of Tomorrow while also successfully weaving Christopher Smith and the 11th Street Kids into the larger DCU narrative. Peacemaker's Season 2 introduced many major locations, such as an alternate reality where Nazis won (Earth X) and the newly built Checkmate headquarters. The show's sophomore run also advanced many DCU stories, like completing the heel turn of Frank Gillo's Rick Flag Sr. due to his alliance with Lex Luthor and the discovery of a dimension-turned-metahuman prison called Salvation. 

In a recent Instagram post, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed that filming for Man of Tomorrow has already wrapped, showing off multiple set photos of Nicholas Hoult diving into a lake and the sequel's creative team taking a commemorative photo in a wooded lakeside setting. 

When Eve Ridley's Ruthye asked Milly Alcock's Kara whether she was anything like her cousin Superman in Craig Gillespie's Supergirl, she refuted the suggestion, saying how he saw the good in everyone, while she saw the truth. On the surface, this is a fair enough reading of both characters by writer Ana Nogueira, showcasing Kara's jaded worldview and Clark's optimism. But she has Kara cross a line she should never have crossed in this movie, while also giving her unintentionally skewed morals.

In the comics, both Superman and Supergirl oppose killing, but depending on the continuity, Kara seesawed between it being a deeply held belief like her cousin and a matter of obligation, struggling with the temptation to end villains out of necessity or for their irredeemable crimes. Tom King's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which the 2026 movie was heavily based on, revolved around the nature of revenge and Kara's beliefs about the sanctity of life as she attempted to convince a young girl to stay her blade.

I'm convinced the empty hospital in Rushville is a major clue tied to the broader Manhunter mystery in DC Studios' Lanterns. The latest episode of the DCU series, "Trust Fall," showed Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) being shot by one of William Macon's snipers and found himself in Rushville's hospital. Sheriff Kerry Kane (who is confirmed to have ties to Gotham) was there to accompany him. Following their temporary truce, Hal noticed the hospital was empty, with no other patients. The sign-out sheet was blank, and the equipment still had plastic wrapping, seemingly unused. Kerry unusually shrugged it off, only telling Hal, "It’s a small town, not exactly a big patient pool." 

The hospital being empty in Lanterns Episode 2 is an important clue that not everything is as it seems in Rushville, Nebraska, suggesting that the injury-free residents may not be human at all and, in fact, they might be all manhunters.

The Batman: Part 2 is currently filming, and new images from the movie’s UK set have revealed the clearest look yet at the Batsuit Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight will wear when the film arrives in 2028. Set in winter after Gotham’s flooding, the sequel picks up about a week after The Penguin and roughly a month after The Batman, throwing even bigger challenges at the Caped Crusader than the first movie did. The returning cast is joined by high-profile additions such as Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, who is widely reported to be playing Gotham District Attorney Harvey Dent.

The new photos show the costume in full, worn by stunt performer Rick English rather than Pattinson. English doubled for Pattinson on the first film and is back for Matt Reeves’ sequel. In the images, English wears the Batsuit under a long coat with a cap instead of the cowl, while two Gotham cruisers can be seen behind him with red lights flashing against the snow. 

Batman: Knightfall - Part 2 has an official release window. Right as Lanterns expands the live-action DCU on HBO, Warner Bros. Animation is offering up a brand new Elseworlds epic in the three-part, direct-to-digital adaptation of Batman: Knightfall. The story is one of the most infamous and longest sagas in the Caped Crusader's long history, spanning around 119 issues across multiple titles and three major parts: Knightfall, Knightquest, and KnightsEnd.

After Knightfall - Part 1 debuted to "thunderous applause" at Annecy Festival, the animated clash between Anson Mount's Batman and Michael Mando's Bane has finally been released for digital purchase. Of course, the question for most will now be when Knightfall - Part 2: Knightquest will be released to depict Azrael's time as Batman, and DC's history suggests it may not be far away. 

When Does Batman Knightfall Part 2 Come Out? DC Universe Animated Original Movies' Past Slate Reveals Expected Release Window

A new DC hero in James Gunn's DC reboot will be visually inspired by British singer Charli XCX. Gunn is not even two years into the new DC Universe, which he launched in 2024 with the release of Creature Commandos on HBO Max. This new franchise is not only bringing in some of the most iconic DC names (like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) but also introducing others that are less familiar to the general public.

Creature Commandos is confirmed to bring the classic DC character Nosferata into the show as part of the Task Force M team. The character debuted in DC Comics in April 1998 (Superboy Vol. 4 #50) and is a bat-like creature bred from the 1940s Project Moreau experiments. 

A new Creature Commandos Season 2 video from Dean Lorey proves James Gunn made the right choice in hiring the showrunner as his replacement. Gunn wrote all seven episodes of the DC Studios animated series' first season, then stepped back and handed the Season 2 scripts to Lorey, who now leads a full writers' room. The decision put the DCU’s first show in the hands of a veteran who already guided Season 1 from the showrunner’s chair.

Creature Commandos showrunner Dean Lorey shared the story in a video on his Instagram page, part of One Thing, his ongoing series of filmmaking lessons posted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. He revealed how a Season 2 scene starring the Bride, voiced by Indira Varma, fell flat in its first animatic, the rough moving storyboard used to test episodes before final animation, and how one note about emotion saved it.

Guy Gardner isn't exactly a fan favorite, so he's going to look to clean up his act in 2027's Man of Tomorrow. All eyes are on the Green Lantern Corps right now. Lanterns is airing on HBO, introducing the DCU's versions of Hal Jordan and John Stewart, the two most important Earth-based Green Lanterns in DC lore.

Hal and John don't see eye-to-eye, mostly because they have different approaches to the hero gig. John takes his job seriously, while Hal likes to play fast and loose with the rules. No matter how much they dislike each other, though, they would probably bond over their hatred of Earth's other Green Lantern, Guy Gardner.

DC Studios has officially confirmed that another major character introduced in a brand-new project is from the DCU's Gotham City (and her connection might be more important than fans think). Gotham-related characters introduced so far in James Gunn's DCU have mostly appeared via cameos and brief references, but there are protagonists who played pivotal roles that helped shape the franchise's future, such as Peacemaker's Leota Adebayo and Clayface's Matt Hagen (who first appeared in Creature Commandos Season 1). Lanterns is joining the trend by revealing that an unexpected character has ties to Batman's city. 

Lanterns Episode 2 confirmed that Sheriff Kerry Kane (Kelly Macdonald) is from Gotham City. At one point in the episode, Hal Jordan noticed that Kerry's overall presence didn't fit a small-town Nebraska sheriff, prompting her to reply, "I'm from Gotham. Moved here on a whim." 

This confirmation made Sheriff Kerry Kane the 10th DCU character who is originally from Gotham, joining the likes of Matt Hagen, Leota Adebayo, and Doctor Phosphorus.
