Although Spider-Man: No Way Home marked a new high for the character, bringing back actors from franchises past and raking in billions of dollars, the hero's cinematic future is uncertain at this point. After three films in the MCU, actor Tom Holland has yet to sign a contract to return as the character, even commenting outright about the unclear future for his Spider-Man.

Much like Holland's future as the super-powered wall-crawler, the prospects of other actors returning to the role are also up in the air. However, Andrew Garfield recently spoke out about his willingness to return as the character, noting how much he enjoyed the dynamic between the three Spider-Men in No Way Home. More specifically, Garfield even commented on the idea of a crossover with the Venom series, calling it "a cool idea."

Others have also chimed in about Spider-Man's time on the big screen in the coming years. Actor Vincent D'Onofrio, who recently returned to the MCU in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, shared his desire to appear in a potential fourth Spider-Man film, calling the idea "really really fun."

In more concrete news, Tom Holland recently reflected on the possibility of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning to play Spider-Man again...

Speaking with Variety, Spider-Man actor Tom Holland touched on the appearances by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in No Way Home. Speaking about the potential of a future Spider-Man reunion with Maguire and Garfield, Holland noted that, "of course it could happen."

"Could it happen? Of course it could happen. We’ve done it once before. Will it happen? I don’t know."

Holland also commented on the impact of their appearances in No Way Home, calling it "such a culturally enriching experience for so many people."

"We have created something that has been such a culturally enriching experience for so many people, that watching those fan reactions to when Andrew [Garfield] comes through and Tobey [Maguire] comes through and Andrew saves Zendaya, I will never be able to live that down. That is just incredible. And for me, to be able to share that with the world is enough."

The actor also had something to say about the magnitude of the achievement, saying that "It was one of those things — it was a an idea for a long time and an idea that always seemed impossible."

Will Fans See More of Maguire and Garfield?

Taking Tom Holland's comments into account, it seems that a future for Maguire and Garfield's Spider-Men is certainly possible. While he had nothing to say about concrete plans for the pair, his words seem to indicate an openness to getting the actors back together.

According to Holland, even getting the two previous Spider-Men to return was something that "seemed impossible." If Sony and Marvel are capable of pulling it off once, it doesn't seem too far-fetched that they could do it once more, especially considering the excitement and goodwill surrounding their appearances in No Way Home.

However, the studio isn't one to throw out meaningless fan service for no good reason. If Maguire and Garfield were to put the mask on one more time, it would likely have to be in a way that felt earned. Luckily for fans, a few future projects seem to offer that chance.

If a new Spider-Man trilogy ends up in the works from Sony and Marvel, Maguire and Garfield could certainly appear briefly, depending on the direction those films head in. Additionally, while Holland was specifically referring to another Spider-Man reunion, the chances of the actors returning separately also seem fairly high.

The upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would be a prime project for a little Spider-Man cameo, as it too deals with the Multiverse. Additionally, as the two projects were in production around the same time, it doesn't seem impossible that Holland, Maguire, or Garfield could pop up. It certainly doesn't hurt that rumors are already flying about a possible Maguire cameo in the Sam Raimi-directed sequel.

The trio of Spider-Man actors could also appear in a Sony-produced Venom project. While the future of that character is similarly unclear, actor Tom Hardy has hinted at a more expansive threequel. As Venom has engaged in some Multiversal exploits before, taking a brief jaunt to the MCU during the events of No Way Home, it seems quite possible that Garfield or Maguire could stumble into his universe for a bit.

There is also always the possibility of the actors getting another Spider-Man film of their own. A possible Spider-Man 4 for Maguire feels fairly unlikely, even with actor and longtime Sam Raimi collaborator Bruce Campbell joking about the possibility online. An Amazing Spider-Man 3, on the other hand, seems more realistic, especially with Garfield open to the possibility and fans clamoring for it.

Even so, Holland seems unsure of the exact likelihood of Maguire or Garfield returning. While his comments don't hint at anything specific, they do at least indicate that the door remains open. And, if any lesson is to be taken from the marketing around No Way Home, it's always possible that the actor is just unable to confirm any exciting developments.
