Spider-Man: No Way Home remains the talk of the comic book movie community, largely thanks to the team-up between Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. Even more exciting is the fact that this is only the first of two movies with massive Doctor Strange action in Phase 4. The second of those will come in May with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s solo sequel has the opportunity to break the MCU wide open behind Strange and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, particularly after Spider-Man: No Way Home officially introduced the Multiverse. With Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez and more than a handful of other rumored characters coming into play, there are no limits to the sequel’s potential.

With a few months until Multiverse of Madness debuts, reports and rumors continue to tease just how big the film could become with its story and characters. That hype now continues to grow thanks to a rumor teasing the return of another No Way Home standout in its cast.

Will Tobey Maguire Be In Doctor Strange 2?

The DisInsider Show shared a rumor indicating that Tobey Maguire will reprise his role as Spider-Man in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In a chat about the Doctor Strange sequel, Editor-In-Chief Skyler Shuler and Co-Editor-In-Chief Derek Cornell teased that the Sam Raimi-directed Multiverse epic will be "a f---ing gamechanger" for the MCU, even more so than Spider-Man: No Way Home:

"Obviously, [Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness] is going to be a f---ing game-changer. We thought No Way Home was going to be a game-changer, no, this will be the game-changer."

Shortly after this tease, the duo spoke assuredly about Tobey Maguire's role in Doctor Strange 2, although they admitted that they have yet to receive confirmation on if his No Way Home co-star, Andrew Garfield, will also make an appearance:

"Tobey Maguire will be in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness. We do not know about Andrew Garfield yet, but we can assume that he may be in the movie as well."

Maguire in for Round 2 in the MCU

As has been the case with many characters said to appear in the forthcoming movie, this news should be solidly classified as a rumor for the time being. However, after Maguire made his return to the spotlight in Spider-Man: No Way Home, his inclusion in the Doctor Strange sequel would be something truly special.

Recently, Maguire shared insight into just how special it was to return to the role he first started playing two decades ago. He even admitted that No Way Home helped to give his hero some closure after the adventures he had in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.

Even with that connection of Raimi directing Multiverse of Madness taken into account, there are no signs pointing to how Maguire (or Garfield) would fit into the plot.

Thus far, the film's official synopsis only teases Strange repeating his mistake from No Way Home by getting too ambitious with his magic. Although he's confirmed to be facing a darker version of himself, it's difficult to nail down which characters from various rumors will actually be in the movie.

As the sequel inches closer to its release date, fans will hopefully get more clarity on the cast as rumors are verified or denied. Whether Maguire ends up on the confirmed side is a mystery, but considering the response to his official MCU debut, it wouldn't be an unwelcome inclusion.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will debut in theaters on May 6, 2022. Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters.
