The Multiverse is a concept with which MCU fans are about to become quite familiar, particularly with projects coming to Phase 4 over the next couple of years. 2021 delivered the time-jumping Loki, and the world is currently taking in the wild story of Spider-Man: No Way Home before 2022 delivers the MCU’s full multiverse in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Considering how much information fans are waiting for confirmation about in the Spider-Man threequel, Marvel has done a fantastic job of keeping the Doctor Strange sequel’s story details largely under the radar. This is even true with the recently announced reshoots that currently have the team working nearly all day and every day to complete the required material and add new major story beats.
Includes as part of the reasoning for these reshoots Is the potential inclusion of A-list cameos that could shake the very fabric of the Marvel universe to its core. Now, fans may have more details behind why Marvel Studios is pushing for these big-time additions.
The Status of Doctor Strange 2 Cameos
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that reshoots for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will wrap up over the next week.
More notably, the outlet reported that Marvel Studios' successful integration of the Multiverse in both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Disney Plus' Loki series inspired the studio to push Doctor Strange 2's Multiverse madness even further during additional photography.
One of THR's sources spoke on how the Kevin Feige-led studio is pushing the limit even further on Multiversal interactions between Marvel characters from different universes and timelines. This reportedly led to Doctor Strange 2 reshoots that are bringing "more cameos and character introductions" and ultimately "more fun" Multiverse elements into the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring sequel.
Doctor Strange 2 Pushing Multiverse Boundaries
While Spider-Man: No Way Home is looking to deliver the first signs of the Multiverse's potential within the MCU upon its release, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems to be taking that concept to even greater levels. With news and leaks already teasing characters like the MCU's first minotaur and the massive supervillain Shuma Gorath, this movie could have the opportunity to take what its predecessors did and amp it up to unseen heights.
Loki kicked things off with the Jonathan Majors' debut performance as He Who Remains, who will eventually adapt into the MCU's Kang the Conqueror, before Spider-Man brings in at least five villains from across the Multiverse. Who will actually come in through the cameos in Doctor Strange 2 is still a mystery, but looking at how extensive the reshoots are, it's surely not going to be something that goes unnoticed in the film.
There are certainly a great number of franchises that could provide characters and actors for cameos such as the Fox-based X-Men or even Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool. No matter what they turn out to be, the MCU isn't holding back any punches with the Master of the Mystic Arts' second solo outing.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to debut in theaters on May 6, 2022
