MCU fans can gear up for a strange time in 2022 when the hotly anticipated sequel Doctor Strange in the Muliverse of Madness hits theaters. Collectors of Hasbro's popular Marvel Legends line of action figures will be able to join in on the fun as well. Hasbro dropped a fresh batch of pre-orders for the new Multiverse of Madness wave of Legends figures recently, with offerings including MCU versions of America Chavez and a much-needed Wong.
There was even a figure for the as-of-yet unseen MCU character, Rintrah, who in the pages of Marvel Comics is a green Minotaur from the planet R'vaal. Judging by the figure, the MCU incarnation will be most accurate in appearance to his comics counterpart.
But Rintrah and the other figures weren't the only Doctor Strange 2 toys shown off.
Another Legendary Marvel Legends Figure
A separate figure of Dr. Stephen Strange from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness went up for pre-order, this one being a Target exclusive.
Labeled as "Defender Strange," the figure depicts the Master of the Mystic Arts clad in a red and black colored suit, as seen below:
MCU Fans Might Be Unfamiliar With This Strange-er
Certainly, this version of Doctor Strange has not yet been seen in the MCU thus far. Strange has always been consistent with his superhero attire: blue tunic, boots, and the Cloak of Levitation (with the occasional addition of comic-accurate yellow gloves).
In fact, the warped Strange Supreme featured in Marvel Studios' What If...? stuck to this structure pretty closely, just mixing up the color scheme and some of the finer details.
So who could this guy be? Is he just the standard MCU Doctor Strange in some new duds or is he perhaps a Strange Variant? The latter explanation wouldn't seem out of the realm of possibility, given that Multiverse of Madness will explore other Marvel dimensions and universes.
It's curious to note that this suit with its red and black color scheme matches up pretty well with Strange's uniform that was worn in the pages of the Defenders comic books. Maybe one of the alternate universes explored in the movie will include an iteration of Strange that joined the Defenders alongside the Hulk and Valkyrie?
All of this remains to be seen until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releases on May 6, 2022.
