MCU's Groot Flexes His Muscles In New Look at Guardians of the Galaxy Show

I Am Groot, Groot, Disney+, Guardians of the Galaxy

In an otherwise underwhelming day from the wonderful world of Disney, Marvel Studios stole the show with announcements regarding more than a dozen upcoming streaming projects. With the first new footage from Moon Knight and She-Hulk alongside an exciting look at an eye-patch-less Samuel L. Jackson from Secret Invasion, the MCU is on the path to another impressive round of storytelling.

Much of the studio’s focus at the event was on its expansion into animation, which kicked off in Summer 2021 with What If…? and looks to push forward into more thrilling adventures. From prequel series like Spider-Man: Freshman Year and Marvel Zombies, this division will carry a big load as Marvel adds more material alongside its classic live-action movies and shows.

Following Season 1 of What If…?, the next new animated series to grace the MCU legacy will be I Am Groot, a fun but mysterious outing centered on the ever-lovable Baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Now, with Disney+ Day in full effect, this show received its first new official update since its original announcement.

Baby Groot Back For More MCU Madness

During its Disney+ Day presentation, Marvel Studios revealed a new logo for the animated Disney+ series I Am Groot. This new title card features bright green lettering along with a fresh look at the titular character, Baby Groot.

I Am Groot will also feature Kirsten Lepore as its director and executive producer. Marvel also officially released the show's synopsis, teasing what fans should expect from the tiny but vicious Baby Groot:

Disney+ Day 2021 is here, and it’s kicking into high gear with brand new announcements coming out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with what’s to come from the streaming service. During Marvel Studios' 2021 Disney+ Day Special — which is currently streaming exclusively on Disney+ — revealed a brand new title treatment for Marvel Studios’ I Am Groot

An Open Road for Baby Groot in the MCU

This title card comes as the first true round of information about the animated I Am Groot show coming to Disney+, which went somewhat under the radar amongst everything else initially announced at Disney Investor Day 2020.

Similar to the Spider-Man: Freshman Year series, this show looks to give fans a deep look at Baby Groot's early life, although it's unclear if this will be prior to the events of Guardians of the Galaxy or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Whatever the case may be on that front, featuring Baby Groot in his own show can only mean a fun outing for Marvel Studios with a fan-favorite Guardians character taking the spotlight.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously mentioned that the series will feature appearances from unexpected characters in the MCU canon, which will likely be one of the surprises that's revealed closer to the series' debut.

This series will help Marvel Studios push forward in its new venture into animation with a character that fans know and love leading the way. Baby Groot looks as entertaining and ambitious as ever, and even though it may be some time until more information is revealed, the tiny tree sporting an awesome hairdo and mustache will be enough to keep fans going for some time.

I Am Groot is in the early stages of development for Marvel Studios.
