He stole the show in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 , and he is still the talk of the town three years later. After his sacrifice in the first film, the world was introduced to Baby Groot in the sequel , the Guardians' tiniest but still fearsome member. Of course, his appearance was not all surprising given the tease fans were given prior.

Viewers recall Baby Groot sprouting from a pot at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy , leading to a memorable dancing scene with Drax . Now many years later, one fan has wondered whether there lies a connection between that memorable scene and the sequel, and took the time to ask the foremost authority on Twitter.

A fan took to Twitter to ask Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn whether the pot in which Baby Groot is eating candy out of was in fact the same pot he was growing in from the film prior, as noticed by her 7-year old child.

Gunn appreciated the curiosity, and not only confirmed the theory on the spot but gave proper credit as well:

WHAT THIS MEANS

The increased time at home has given fans the opportunity to rewatch Marvel films and increase their knowledge of the MCU, or in this case, help unearth new discoveries. The confirmation that the pot Baby Groot eats candy from is the same one in which he was growing out of is a nice link between the two films, and another indication of how tight-knit the Guardians are as a family.

Gunn giving due credit to the discoverer of the easter egg is proof that in some cases, a retcon isn’t necessarily a bad thing. On the topic of retcons, since Drax confirmed he has the ability to become invisible in Avengers: Infinity War , did Baby Groot really notice him while dancing at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy? If this wasn't answered in James Gunn's rewatch, we surely need an answer ASAP.
