Marvel Studios clearly has plenty to look forward to in 2022 and beyond, even if the marketing and rumors surrounding Spider-Man: No Way Home are saying otherwise at the moment.
Included in that new slate of projects are more than a dozen new Disney+ series making their way to the streaming world, many of which were announced during Disney+ Day. Even with the excitement surrounding recently-revealed entries like Agatha: House of Darkness and Marvel Zombies, fans have their eyes peeled for information on series that came to light long before this event.
One of the highlights from that bunch is Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn’s Secret Invasion, a series that will put everything fans know about the MCU into question. Following up on the duo’s partnership from Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Secret Invasion will bring the classic Marvel Comics story to the streaming world with sects of Skrulls silently making their presence felt on Earth.
While no story details are known about this series yet, fans got their first official image from Disney+ Day featuring an MCU legend.
Samuel L. Jackson Back With a Fury
In the Twitter stream for Disney+ Day, Marvel Studios shared the first look at Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury from his return in the Secret Invasion series coming to Disney+.
Jackson is seen with the longest version of his classic goatee to date, and he's also missing his signature eye patch. The eye normally under said patch is glowing blue, and fans get a great look at the claw-mark scars he received in 2019's Captain Marvel from Goose:
Marvel also gave the show a new title card with a Skrull inspired look, playing off the alien's green skin in the lettering:
No Time for a Fury Barbershop Trip
Samuel L. Jackson is as synonymous with the MCU as anybody, first having made his presence felt in the post-credits scene from 2008's Iron Man. Now moving into his next appearance as Nick Fury, the former director of SHIELD is in for potentially his most emotionally challenging journey yet with Secret Invasion.
This picture is something of a historic moment for Fury in the MCU, as he's only been seen without his signature eye patch for a moment during the climactic battle in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It's unclear if this look will become a regular thing in Secret Invasion or if he will go back to the classic eye patch at some point, but it certainly shows that Fury is all-business this time around.
Now, fans are waiting anxiously for the first full round of footage from this series along with an official release date, although it's said to be released sometime in 2022. With the shape-shifting Skrulls coming face-to-face with somebody as dangerous as Jackson's Nick Fury, all hell is sure to break loose upon their inevitable confrontation.
Secret Invasion is currently filming and will begin streaming on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
