There was once a time when having Spider-Man in the MCU seemed like a pipe dream—an impossibility, even. But then a miraculous handshake happened between Marvel Studios and Sony which led to his now-iconic Captain America: Civil War debut.

Now, Tom Holland's web-slinger is gearing up for this third MCU solo flick with Spider-Man: No Way Home, a film which is posed to be one of the biggest that Marvel Studios has ever released.

Spider-Man's future past his Multiversal adventure this December isn't known, but it's probably a safe bet to assume that the wallcrawler's days within the Marvel Cinematic Universe are far from over. But in what form will that take?

Now, Marvel Studios announced an interesting continuation of Spider-Man's legacy in the MCU: a new original animated show.

Spider-Man Animated Series for Disney+

Marvel Studios announced that a brand-new animated series titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year is coming soon to Disney+.

Disney unveiled an official synopsis as well, revealing that the show will follow "Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU:"

"The animated series follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we've ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots."

The series will be written by executive producer Jeff Trammel. An official logo for the project can be seen below:

An Animated Tom Holland Spider-Man?

An animated look at Peter Parker's origin story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is something that will shed a whole new corner of light on Tom Holland's MCU hero. That's an area Marvel avoided up until this point, but exploring it via an animated show on Disney+ seems like the perfect way to tackle it.

Maybe then viewers can actually meet this Peter Parker's Uncle Ben, a prominent figure in the character's mythos who has only gotten two references in all of the MCU: a leather briefcase and a casual name drop in What If...?.

While viewers wait for this show to come to fruition, everyone can rest easy knowing that Spider-Man's next adventure is just over a month away Spider-Man: No Way Home releasing in theaters worldwide on December 17, 2021.
