Marvel Studios is finally inching closer to its return after nearly a month away from releases, which will continue with the debut of the MCU’s first fully-animated effort in What If…?.
Press and reports for Phase 4’s fourth Disney+ outing of 2021 have continually upped the hype for this semi-retrospective on the Infinity Saga, teasing a brand-new take on everything MCU fans know and love.
Introducing characters like Party Thor, Doctor Strange Supreme, and many more, this series will follow up on the multiversal wildness from the end of Loki and force the MCU fandom to forget everything they think they know.
It’s been confirmed that What If…? will start from the beginning of the MCU chronologically by showcasing Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter’s transformation into a superhero. With the fan-favorite SHIELD agent confirmed to be a key player even after Season 1, it only seems fair that her story would be an important one to use to kick off this thrilling animated ride.
Thanks to the latest round of marketing, the viewing public now has a little clearer idea of how the new Captain’s journey gets its start.
THE FIRST AVENGER REBORN
Marvel Studios released a new 30-second teaser for the Disney+ show What if...?, which will begin streaming on Disney+ on Wednesday, August 11.
This spot largely features a scene in which an explosion disrupts Project Rebirth from Captain America: The First Avenger, injuring Steve Rogers in the process. This confirms the information from earlier rumors about Steve Rogers suffering an injury that keeps him from becoming Captain America.
Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter then jumps into the machine to complete the project herself as she becomes Captain Carter.

ONE DETAIL CHANGES EVERYTHING IN THE MCU
While Captain America: The First Avenger featured a German spy blowing up the location for Project Rebirth, it didn't happen until after Steve Rogers had already become Captain America. It appears that part of What If...? will have this tragedy actually affect Steve himself by hurting him so badly that he can no longer take the Super-Solider Serum.
Incredibly, it seems that Peggy's decision to jump into the pod is one based purely on instinct in order to make sure Project Rebirth didn't go completely under. She proves herself to have the same heroic spirit as her version from the main universe, although the reception to her decision is still a mystery that will likely be shown in the first episode.
With Peggy's run as Captain Carter beginning soon, anticipation is building to see the specifics of her journey and how they will come into play alongside the show's new team of Avengers. Hayley Atwell's return will bring yet another exciting hero to the ever-expanding MCU, and it will only be more thrilling as Captain Carter continues her run over the next few years.
What If...? will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.
