Marvel Studios is set to kick off summer 2022 with a universe-breaking bang thanks to the May 6 debut for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As the second superhero blockbuster of the year after The Batman and the MCU’s first film in theaters since Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange 2 looks primed to send the MCU fandom into a frenzy.
With just under a month until the Multiversal sequel hits the big screen, the film's promotional tour brings new exciting details with every update from the last few weeks. From Billy and Tommy Maximoff's confirmed appearances in the film to reports about the effect Avengers: Endgame will have on the plot, hype for Doctor Strange 2 continues to increase exponentially.
Tickets for the sequel became available for purchase on April 6, with the expectation that the movie will be a standard-setter for the 2022 box office when it debuts in a few weeks.
Now, while the official numbers for Doctor Strange 2 haven't been revealed, that trend was reconfirmed in the latest update from the film's ticket pre-sales.
Doctor Strange 2 Sets Ticket Sales Mark
Deadline revealed that Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness earned the most money from pre-sale tickets in a 24-hour period of any movie in 2022 so far, beating out March's The Batman.
Doctor Strange 2's 24-hour sales earnings are also the highest for any movie since last year's record-breaking Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tickets for the Strange sequel first went on sale on April 6 ahead of its May 6 debut.
Doctor Strange Beats Batman in Tickets
As the entertainment industry moves back to seeing its usual numbers financially, blockbusters like The Batman and Spider-Man: No Way Home helped push that trend forward monumentally. While The Batman helped kick off 2022 with its impressive box office totals, Doctor Strange 2 looks to take this to new levels of success upon its debut.
Marvel Studios as a whole has helped ticket sales trend upward with pre-sales since the franchise returned to theaters last year. Eternals truly pushed that upward trend by beating out both of its 2021 predecessors, even with COVID concerns rising in October 2021, before Spider-Man 3 went even further as fans scalped tickets for thousands of dollars online.
While this report didn't share the exact numbers regarding ticket sales, it seemed almost inevitable that Marvel's next movie would make a major impact the day that tickets went on sale. With dozens of potential players from multiple universes converging into a movie that's only 126 minutes long, fans are already itching to see what the MCU has in store for its summer hit.
Following No Way Home's nearly $2 billion efforts at the global box office starting in December 2021, Doctor Strange 2 will take the ideas from that threequel to new levels of pure madness. Tickets will only continue to fly off the proverbial shelves in just over four weeks until the movie premieres, and it will only be a matter of time until the box office numbers skyrocket up the charts.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will debut in theaters on May 6.
