Marvel Studios may have over a dozen projects in line for release in 2022, but that trend won’t slow down in 2023 and beyond. That year will kick off with Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, giving the MCU’s smallest Avenger possibly his biggest solo adventure to date.
Along with a wild new ride through the Quantum realm and more unique challenges in a post-Avengers: Endgame world, this movie will introduce leveled-up versions of heroes and villains alike. This will largely come with Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang as she takes on the superhero mantle of Stature before she teams up with Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne to take on Jonathan Majors in his return as Kang the Conqueror.
Even with so much new action and so many new players in the mix, Ant-Man 3’s plot is still largely being kept under wraps. Although that remained the case in a new chat with one of the film’s stars, she did give just a hint of her reaction to the script.
Evangeline Lilly On Quantumania Script
Hope Van Dyne actress Evangeline Lilly spoke with Collider about her reaction to the script for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
While she confirmed that the movie is currently filming, she vigilantly upheld her duty to keep any information about the story from releasing to the public:
"I can tease that I am currently filming Quantumania. And I can tease nothing else for you, lest I die."
However, Lilly did reveal that she was "so stoked" about the script after seeing it for the first time, especially getting to work with new writer Jeff Loveness. She was able to "hear all the characters" through the story on the page, and she believes that this third outing could potentially "be the best one (they've) done yet:"
"I would be happy to. I was so stoked on the script. Jeff Loveness is our new writer for the film. And we've never worked with him before. I think he is phenomenal. I think he's one of the best writers we've ever had. I think he's got an incredible mastery of voice. So on the page, I could hear all the characters, and I knew that he'd really kind of harnessed each person's unique personality. I just think that it's going to be really special. I think it's going to be really good. I actually think it has the chance to be the best one we've done yet."
Something Special Coming for Ant-Man Threequel
After three MCU appearances in the first two Ant-Man movies and Avengers: Endgame, Lilly looks ready to take the action in Quantumania to new levels of insanity, both individually with the Wasp and as part of the ensemble.
At its core, the Quantum Realm will clearly play a key role in the plot thanks to the Quantumania subtitle as it makes a return to prominence after appearances in all three of Lilly's movies to date. This could potentially be an avenue that Kang the Conqueror may use to make his presence felt in the real world, but no matter how that happens, the miniature heroes will have their hands full with this endeavor.
The threequel also has the opportunity to follow up on other Multiversal outings on the way, like 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home and 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with its own tiny twist to fill its own space. While information will likely be space for most of the next few months, Lilly's comments certainly build the hype for this movie's debut.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently filming and will release in theaters on February 17, 2023.
