Marvel Studios has plans for a jam-packed 2022 in theaters and on Disney+, and 2023 and beyond won't be lacking in comparison. That year will kick off with Paul Rudd's increasingly massive threequel Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will take the story of the first two movies to new levels of insanity.
One thing building hype for this release is the theatrical debut of Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror, who will continue his reign of terror that began its early stages in Loki. However, he will have a tall order in front of him with not only Ant-Man and the Wasp in front of him, but also Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, and a newly-powered Cassie Lang.
Filming is underway for the MCU's first movie of 2023, and although story details are still under wraps, the film's cast and crew are already seeing something amazing brewing. In that vein, director Peyton Reed shared a sentiment with that vibe while celebrating a birthday for one of his stars.
Happy Birthday, Michael Douglas!
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed took to Twitter to wish Hank Pym actor Michael Douglas a happy 77th birthday. In the same Tweet, Reed shared that he and Douglas are "busy cooking up something" he thinks people are very much going to enjoy as they film the third Ant-Man movie:
"The happiest of birthdays to the great Michael Douglas!
Michael and a few other friends and I are busy cooking up something that we think you’re gonna be WAY into…#Quantumania"
Additionally, Ant-Man 3 writer Jeff Loveness put out his own Tweet that read, "Ant-Man 3 will kick sh*t," which he deleted shortly after posting.
"Cooking Up Something" for Ant-Man 3
Although the main purpose of Reed's Tweet was simply to share a birthday wish for one of the MCU's most iconic actors, he also continues building up anticipation for what's coming in this next major outing.
For Douglas' character specifically, he has played a key role in both previous Ant-Man films and also got a chance to shine during the Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame. After finding his long-lost wife in the Quantum Realm during Ant-Man and the Wasp and coming back to life after The Blip, his resolve to explore the world deeper will likely be stronger than ever in the next solo movie.
As for Reed and Loveness' comments, both of them are undoubtedly looking forward to sharing more details about what's coming in Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne's story after Scott helped save the world in the fourth Avengers film. Filming is still likely a few months away from finishing, but the hope is that by early 2022, more details will come to light on what fans can expect to see.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will release in theaters on February 17, 2023.
