Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to finish off the trilogy of Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly's MCU heroes, but they will encounter a different challenge this time around.
Directed by Peyton Reed, the upcoming MCU threequel will reunite Rudd and Lilly alongside the core mainstays of the franchise like Michael Douglas' Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne. The quartet will be joined by newcomer Kathryn Newton who will portray the adult version of Cassie Lang while Jonathan Majors is set to make his comeback as the dangerous Kang the Conqueror.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but it is expected that the film's adventure will be set in the Quantum Realm. The presence of Kang the Conqueror could also tease the inclusion of the multiverse and time-travel in the narrative, meaning that Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne will deal with a lot of alternate reality shenanigans.
On the production side, Reed confirmed that the film would use The Volume technology from The Mandalorian. Reed has thorough experience using this technology since he directed multiple episodes of the hit Star Wars series.
Now, it seems that filming has already begun for the highly-anticipated threequel.
ANT-MAN 3 STARTS FILMING
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed confirmed on Twitter that the MCU threequel has begun filming:
"It begins. Day One - Principal Photography #AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania"
Reed shared a familiar prop from the first Ant-Man film in the announcement: Scott Lang's gift for Cassie Lang during her birthday.
A LOOK AT ANT-MAN'S PAST
This latest confirmation is a positive development for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The film's release date is still less than two years away, but the fact that it began filming this early could hint that this might be due to financial and logistical reasons.
It is unknown how Quantumania will affect the rest of the MCU projects, but the presence of Kang the Conqueror could tease that it will likely set up the next crossover film of the franchise. That said, it's possible that the narrative of the film will have massive ramifications for the rest of the MCU.
While this set photo doesn't offer much at first glance, the ugly bunny doll signifies the bond between Scott Lang and Cassie Lang in the Ant-Man franchise. This could be a tease that the relationship between the father and daughter will be the core element of the film's storyline, and this could spell trouble for both of them.
If this is the case, then this means that Kang will likely exploit the father-daughter dynamic of Scott and Cassie, thus paving the way for the film's story to start. There's a chance that Kang will kidnap Cassie and take her to the Quantum Realm for reasons unknown, meaning that Scott, Hope, and the rest of Team Ant-Man will head toward the dimension for a rescue mission.
This is pure speculation, but it is a safe bet that Quantumania will change the MCU like never before.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to premiere in theaters on February 17, 2023.
