While Star Wars fans would love nothing more than for a project to be so well-received by everyone that it brings the Star Wars fanbase together for good, Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni has other plans with Ahsoka Season 2, as he recently admitted that he knows fans will be divided in how they view certain elements of the upcoming show. More than three years after the first season debuted, Disney+ subscribers and Star Wars fans will get the chance to watch Ahsoka Season 2 when it premieres on January 20, 2027. While Lucasfilm has tried to keep a lot of story elements under wraps, Filoni (who is also the show's creator, writer, and showrunner) is letting fans know that they may be divided on a certain topic.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Lucasfilm president and Ahsoka showrunner, writer, and creator Dave Filoni talked about the Disney+ show's upcoming installment, particularly noting that he understands the fanbase will be divided about the show's supernatural elements. Star Wars has never shied away from the supernatural and mysterious. After all, the Force itself is entirely rooted in a supernatural concept. However, Ahsoka Season 2 is going a step further, and Filoni wants to embrace how fans respond to that.

According to the Lucasfilm executive, when it comes to how fans view Ahsoka, and most likely how they will be split when watching Season 2, "some of the audience is Scully, and some of the audience is Mulder." This is, of course, Filoni referencing the uber-popular sci-fi series, The X-Files, which portrayed one of its lead characters (Mulder) as a believer in the supernatural/extraterrestrial, while its other lead (Scully, who was also Mulder's partner) was more of a skeptic with a grounded approach to their work.

Star Wars: Visions' iconic Dark Lord of the Sith, Ronin, officially received a live-action redesign. 5 years ago, Lucasfilm unleashed "The Duel" in Visions Season 1, an anime short from Kamikaze Douga that pays homage to classic samurai cinema through its Sith main character, The Ronin. The wandering Dark Lord of the Sith arrived on the planet Genbara in the Seven Samurai-inspired (mostly) black-and-white short, where he saved a town from armed bandits and their female Sith leader, Kouru, and gave them her lightsaber's kyber crystal to "ward off evil."

Ronin returned in Visions Season 3 for "The Duel: Payback" for a sequel, in which he clashed with the cybernetic Grand Master, a Jedi hero whom he previously wounded and is now hell-bent on revenge, pushing him toward the dark side.

Anakin Skywalker star Hayden Christensen teased a massive battle between Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Star Wars Rebels crew in Ahsoka when it returns for Season 2 on Disney+. The Rebels crew first came to life over a decade ago in animation before returning to action in 2023 for Season 1 of Ahsoka. Now, this group may be in for their biggest adventure to date.

Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni, Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen, and others teased new information about what to expect in Ahsoka Season 2, which debuts on Disney+ on January 20, 2027. Speaking with ABC's On the Red Carpet, Christensen did not want to spoil anything, only stating how the new episoes set up "a big war" that takes place "up in the stars," and jokingly calling it "a 'Star Wars,' if you will." Christensen also admitted that this is "kind of par for the course" for him, as he and the team want fans to "be able to enjoy the story fresh" when it is released.

Star Wars: Starfighter, Ryan Gosling's first foray into the franchise, has already broken a major record ahead of its arrival in theaters on May 28, 2027. The film's first trailer made Star Wars history with a single reveal from Gosling's character. The movie is Lucasfilm and Disney's second theatrical Star Wars release after seven years spent telling stories almost exclusively on streaming, following The Mandalorian & Grogu earlier this year. Starfighter is shaping up to be one of the most unique Star Wars stories of the Disney era. In fact, the franchise record its trailer just broke is one no movie has pulled off in 49 years.

The first trailer for Star Wars: Starfighter was unveiled behind closed doors at Disney's D23 Expo in August, and it offered some of the most significant details about the movie yet. In the footage, Gosling's character, a pilot named Kade Auberon, reveals that his ship, a decommissioned G17 Imperial Reaper, is the "fastest starfighter ever built." That single statement is what made history. It means Auberon's starfighter outruns every vessel put on screen since Star Wars storytelling began 49 years ago.

Over the years, LEGO has retold Star Wars stories with exciting twists. These reimagined LEGO stories became even more popular when LEGO TV specials were introduced to Disney+, with the Holiday Special kicking off the tradition. Over the course of six years, LEGO has released six specials, some of them amazing, while others could have been a lot better. These LEGO Star Wars specials aren't part of Star Wars canon, which gives LEGO the freedom to literally play with every toy in the Star Wars sandbox.

The most recent special, LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian, arrived on Disney+ on September 2, 2026, following the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, Star Wars' first film release in seven years. That special retold the events of all three seasons of The Mandalorian with a hilarious spin, drawing immense praise from the Star Wars community and landing a solid 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite being new, it is already in competition with previous highly praised releases. The Direct has ranked these specials from best to worst, and LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian takes a pretty interesting spot in the ranking.

A sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story is coming almost eight years after the Star Wars movie underperformed in theaters. Solo starred Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as young iterations of Han Solo and Lando Calrissian in an action space adventure that faced several troubles throughout its production. Solo has become one of the biggest financial flops of Disney's Star Wars era, but as Lucasfilm enters a new period with Dave Filoni at the head of the company, the studio isn't giving up on Solo just yet.

The possibility of a direct sequel has largely been shot down by those involved with the film, with Ehrenreich telling Esquire in 2020 that he had not caught wind of any official developments on a Solo 2. Rumors were another story though, as he also claimed "I've heard soooome stuff, but nothing concrete."

Director Ron Howard was a bit more definite in responding to sequel hopes when chatting to NME in 2022, stating that the project is not "a Lucasfilm priority, as I understand it.” That does not mean that the studio is entirely done with the world of Solo, though, with Donald Glover's Lando project still in the works. Shifting from a series to a big-screen feature, the spinoff is currently in development, and a script has been turned in. While fans wait, they can find out what happens after the events of the film with all-new Solo sequel on the way.

Ray Stevenson's portrayal of Baylan Skoll was one of the best parts of Ahsoka Season 1. When news of the actor's passing broke in May 2023, a recast from show creator (and current Lucasfilm co-CEO) Dave Filoni felt like an impossible task, but Filoni and the studio appear to have pulled it off. New Season 2 footage features the actor taking over the role from Stevenson, and he looks the part. While we are yet to see any real acting from Stevenson's successor, the few glimpses so far are incredibly promising.

Ahsoka Season 2's first official trailer features footage that was highly impressive, spotlighting the major heroes and villains returning for the follow-up season. The most intriguing shots, though, belonged to Baylan Skoll, now played by Rory McCann, the man who famously portrayed Sandor Clegane, aka the Hound, on HBO's hit Game of Thrones. The trailer transports viewers to the snowy mountains of Peridea, the distant planet where Dave Filoni left Baylan stranded at the end of Season 1 alongside Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano and Natasha Liu Bordizzo's Sabine Wren.

Star Wars has announced an Ahsoka Season 2 prequel detailing Ezra Bridger's nail-biting escape from Grand Admiral Thrawn on Peridea. In Ahsoka Season 1, which wrapped in October 2023, Ezra boarded the villain's Star Destroyer, the Chimaera, disguised as a Night Trooper. What happened during the getaway was never shown on screen. The finale simply jumped to Eman Esfandi's Jedi arriving home in the main galaxy and reuniting with Hera Syndulla. The prequel now gives fans a proper look at what went down during his escape while they gear up for Season 2.

Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics unveiled Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape From Thrawn at New York Comic Con, which took place from October 8 to 11. The five-issue miniseries highlights Ezra's escape, serving as a prequel to Ahsoka Season 2. The first issue releases on January 20, 2027, the very same day the new season premieres on Disney+. The story comes from Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni, with Rodney Barnes scripting and Andrea Di Vito on art, plus covers by Phil Noto.

Disney+'s Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson confessed her emotional reaction to the Season 2 finale script. Over 3 years after Ahsoka premiered on Disney+ in 2023, the sophomore outing will finally premiere on January 20, 2027, running for eight episodes, the future beyond which is unclear. From Ahsoka's emotional almost-death to her reunion with Anakin Skywalker in the World Between Worlds, Season 1 was packed with heartfelt moments, with more to come in Season 2.

Rosario Dawson spoke at D23 Expo and confirmed that the script for the finale of Ahsoka Season 2, written by creator Dave Filoni, left her "in tears." Dawson hinted that there was something in Season 2, Episode 8 (the finale) that was "very moving" and had her eyes watering when Filoni, the recently-appointed Lucasfilm CCO, exclusively sent her an early draft of the script:

"I won't say anything, but I can tell you every single day I'm always like, 'I get to know this before anyone.' I mean, there was one thing I'll say in the final episode, and I'd had a conversation with [Dave Filoni] about it, and he sent me a draft of it that he only sent to me, and I was in tears. Just to be in that position was just so special, and now we get to share it with the world. So you're gonna-I hope that you have even a fraction of the reaction that I had because it was, it's very moving."

Most stories told within the galaxy far, far away are family-friendly, even when it comes to Star Wars Legends content, meaning if Disney wanted to adapt any of those Legends stories, regarding appropriate content, there wouldn’t be too many issues. However, there are a few exceptions, as Star Wars pushed the boundaries on certain occasions, so Disney could never get away with adapting those specific stories today for different reasons.

Most of what has been released under the Star Wars umbrella is original content that has not been adapted from prior source material. For example, the sequel trilogy was its own idea that didn't come from anything in Star Wars Legends. However, sometimes Star Wars does choose to bring certain book elements and non-canon details to a production.

The best example of this is Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn was created by Timothy Zahn in a 1992 novel titled Heir to the Empire (notably, this book was also the first time Coruscant was ever referenced), which is not a part of Star Wars canon. However, Disney canonized Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels, keeping his backstory and character traits consistent with what was established about him in Legends.

Former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy just set the record straight about George Lucas' supposed story treatments and plans for Episodes 7-9 of Star Wars, claiming that they essentially never existed. Star Wars has been in an interesting position since George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012. On one hand, the franchise has seen ridiculous profits, as each film in the sequel trilogy grossed more than $1 billion, but on the other hand, fans criticize nearly every aspect of every project. One of the biggest stories to come out regarding Star Wars since the Disney acquisition was that Lucas himself had already planned out his own version of the sequel trilogy, and even gave it to Disney during the sale, under the impression that it would follow his story.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg at Bloomberg Screentime 2026 in Los Angeles (shared via YouTube), Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Lucas did not actually have any of those treatments that fans have been hearing about for years now, and that they were little more than a few sentences about the direction he would take the sequels in.

A Star Wars actor who played a part in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was approached to reprise the role in the Disney+ series Andor. However, the actor turned down the opportunity because he found one particular request from the production team too ridiculous. Star Wars has a long history of actors turning down roles for one reason or another. Famous movie stars like Al Pacino, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Gary Oldman have all declined Star Wars roles when something didn't sit quite right with them.

Star Wars actor Jordan Stephens, in an interview with Zeteo UK, revealed that he refused to reprise his role as Corporal Tonc in Andor because the series' production team asked him to cut his dreadlocks, a request he found ludicrous. Stephens, best known as one half of the British rap duo Rizzle Kicks, played the Rebel soldier in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, widely considered one of the best Star Wars entries of the Disney era.

The Mandalorian and Grogu introduced many dangerous villains from the galaxy far, far away, wreaking havoc throughout Din Djarin's (Pedro Pascal) main adventure with Grogu. Star Wars' return to the big screen in 2026 focused on Din Djarin and Grogu's mission for the New Republic to search for Imperial remnants after the Empire's collapse and eliminate them.

Mando and Grogu spend the entirety of the film walking into danger, encountering a plethora of threats that range from Imperial warlords, the Hutt Cousins, and a bounty hunter who can rival Din Djarin's skills and expertise. The Mandalorian and Grogu's villains are creatures that aren't poised to be messed with since they are antagonists that range from disposable arena beasts to operators who can reshape sectors of the Outer Rim.

Every Major The Mandalorian & Grogu Villain, Ranked By Power Level

Star Wars owned up to making a big mistake in Boba Fett's story from past projects. Introduced in 1980's Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett has become one of the most iconic bounty hunters in entertainment history, showing up across the entire Star Wars universe over the last 40 years. However, in his latest appearance, one major error from his journey came into the spotlight.

Star Wars released a new animated LEGO special on Disney+ titled LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian. This included a look at a LEGO version of Temuera Morrison's Boba Fett, who flew into action in the classic Slave I starship seen in most of his past live-action appearances.

Lucasfilm officially revealed new branding for its next Star Wars movie, which will become the fourteenth theatrical release (and the seventh one under Disney). The media giant's Star Wars era began back in 2015, three years after the studio acquired Lucasfilm from George Lucas. That deal reshaped what it meant to be Star Wars canon, and it eventually helped kick off a new streaming era on Disney+. Now, though, Lucasfilm is turning its attention back to the big screen, with one movie already out this year and another one coming in 2027.

That movie is Ryan Gosling's Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. The upcoming Memorial Day weekend 2027 release by Disney and Lucasfilm was a key focus at D23 last month. Part of the attention it got was the fresh new logo treatment it received. A full trailer played exclusively for the crowd inside the panel, while the new image itself went public for everyone else to see: a throwback design showing a classic black starfield behind a large "Star Wars" logo, with "Starfighter" stamped overtop in a weathered, chrome-like 3D style.

The Star Wars project that acts as a sequel to the animated Star Wars Rebels show is going to be missing one of the 2014 title’s most prominent and recognizable elements. Disney and Lucasfilm are finally almost ready to debut Ahsoka Season 2 on Disney+. Following a gap that lasted longer than three years, the upcoming season of the Rosario Dawson-led Star Wars show (which is also a sequel to Star Wars Rebels) has been highly anticipated by fans for many reasons, including the fact that Hayden Christensen will be back as Anakin Skywalker, and because the Mortis Gods (from The Clone Wars) will be making their live-action debuts.

It is no secret that the Ahsoka series is meant to act as an almost-direct sequel to Star Wars’ four-season Rebels show. Ahsoka features nearly every main character from Star Wars Rebels, tying in certain plotlines from the animated show into the live-action episodes. However, Star Wars and series creator/showrunner/writer Dave Filoni have indicated that Ahsoka Season 2 is going to abandon one of the most recognizable and anchoring elements of Rebels in Ahsoka Season 2, which is extremely surprising because the first season of the live-action Disney+ show carried the element over from Rebels.

After three decades of storytelling and developing Anakin Skywalker's character arc in a very specific way by following a particular formula, Dave Filoni is changing the way Star Wars is approaching the Chosen One. It is no secret that Anakin Skywalker is at the center of the Star Wars universe. No matter how many projects are created and what era Lucasfilm decides to explore next, the basis of the galaxy far, far away will always come back to Anakin since he was at the heart of the original story, the Skywalker Saga.

While Anakin Skywalker has been handled extremely carefully throughout Star Wars history, and Lucasfilm has always followed a fairly specific formula when it comes to Anakin, Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni is about to completely change everything with Ahsoka Season 2, in which Anakin will play a major role. Specifically, for the first time in three decades (or even five decades, if you count Darth Vader's role in the original trilogy), Anakin Skywalker will not be the central character to a Star Wars project that he is involved in.

While Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin in Ahsoka Season 2, and the upcoming show's official trailer showcased him quite a bit, Anakin is clearly going to take a backseat to Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano regarding character exploration and character development.

The MandoVerse's latest Disney+ release was a turning point for the Star Wars universe. What began as The Mandalorian on Disney+ expanded in subsequent years into the MandoVerse, a multi-series tale set in the years after Return of the Jedi and centered on the surviving Imperial remnants. The story already spans The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and the theatrical Mandalorian and Grogu. The MandoVerse's future has been the subject of much discussion, as Lucasfilm currently has only Ahsoka Season 2 coming up next.

September brought a trifecta of new MandoVerse releases on Disney+, headlined by the long-awaited arrival of the Star Wars sub-franchise's first-ever theatrical release, The Mandalorian and Grogu. Judging by The Mandalorian sequel's box-office performance (a franchise low of $345.8 million worldwide), many fans missed the movie in theaters and will now finally get to enjoy it alongside the show.

The streaming debut was paired with The Mandalorian and Grogu Official Podcast (a behind-the-scenes look at its development) and LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian, a Pedro Pascal-less comedic retelling of the three-season show. The triple-release on September 2 was a bittersweet day for fans, as it also marked the end of the MandoVerse as we knew it and left the future uncertain.

Ahsoka Season 2 makes an early decision in its trailer footage that bucks the tradition of previous Star Wars live-action series trailers. The upcoming Disney+ show is the next (and potentially only) live-action Star Wars TV show coming down the pipe, with Rosario Dawson's Jedi, Ahsoka Tano, continuing her journey to take down Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). After a three-year break between seasons, marketing for Ahsoka Season 2 has finally started to ramp up ahead of its January 2027 release.

The first official trailer for Ahsoka Season 2 was released at D23 in August, and something stood out in its initial moments. The teaser opens with a flashback to a younger, Clone Wars-era Ahsoka, played by Ariana Greenblatt, as she and her Jedi Master, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), battle an enemy in a snow-coated forest. It's only after about 15 seconds of this that the trailer moves into the present timeline, with Dawson portraying Ahsoka.

The future of Star Wars is becoming clearer by the day. After going back to the drawing board with its movie division, Lucasfilm has returned with new energy and looks ready to dominate the box office again. It all starts with Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, which has already earned positive buzz ahead of its 2027 release. Next up is a new trilogy from writer Simon Kinberg that all signs point to being a continuation of the Skywalker Saga.

Of course, the sequel trilogy failed to find its footing. Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened a mystery box that Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker couldn't deliver on. By the end of the final entry, it felt like it was time for Lucasfilm to go in a different direction with its massively successful franchise. But the day was always going to come when Star Wars: Episode 10 entered development.

Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts is Lucasfilm's choice to usher in this new era after helming Star Wars: Skeleton Crew on Disney+. That show didn't introduce any characters worth building a trilogy around, so Watts will have to look elsewhere for his North Star. Fortunately, Kinberg and Co. already have someone in mind for the role. The Hollywood trades reported that Daisy Ridley is expected to return for Episode 10 and reprise her role as Rey Skywalker.
