Star Wars has officially moved another piece of the Mandoverse beyond Disney+, leaving just two projects from Jon Favreau’s saga still tied exclusively to the streaming service. The Mandoverse has gradually been expanding into other formats for years, giving fans new ways to follow the story without a subscription. The latest reveal narrows that list once more.

Marvel Comics has confirmed a seven-issue comic adaptation of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, with the first issue scheduled to hit comic shops on Wednesday, September 9, with Rodney Barnes writing the new series. He’s the same writer behind the comic versions of both seasons of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. Will Sliney, known for his work on Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, also takes on illustration duties. 

A new Ahsoka Season 2 update suggests Lucasfilm learned from one major mistake The Acolyte made. The next chapter of the Disney+ series will continue the search for Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Rosario Dawson back as Ahsoka Tano and Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker. After Lucasfilm cancelled The Acolyte following just one season, fans wondered if the studio would rethink its approach to live-action Star Wars storytelling. Fresh information from official UK filings now points to a clear answer.

According to filings from Robot Dog Pictures, the UK-based production company tied to Ahsoka, pre-production on the upcoming season cost roughly $33.7 million. This figure is much lower than the $42.4 million that The Acolyte spent at the same stage of production. UK tax reimbursements pull Ahsoka Season 2's net pre-production figure even further down to roughly $28.3 million, versus around $35.9 million for The Acolyte. 

A former screenwriter attached to the upcoming Rey film has come forward to share the vision he had for the project before his departure. The New Jedi Order, still officially untitled, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will follow Rey (Daisy Ridley) as she works to rebuild the Jedi Order in the wake of the sequel trilogy. The film has seen significant behind-the-scenes turnover in the writing department, with one of the former writers recently sounding off on his big Force ideas for the upcoming film.

George Nolfi is the latest writer to take on the screenplay, following the departures of Steven Knight and original writing duo Justin Britt-Gibson and Damon Lindelof.

Lindelof recently joined the House of R podcast, where he shared never-before-revealed details on his ideas for the looming New Jedi Order Star Wars film. 

Prior to The Mandalorian & Grogu, only one actor in the entire world could say that they appeared in every Star Wars film that had ever been released, as many thought the new Star Wars film would not feature that actor. While they seemingly did not show up at any point throughout the movie, the end credits revealed that they did play a part in The Mandalorian & Grogu, extending their streak for being credited as an actor in every film in the galaxy far, far away.

The end credits for The Mandalorian & Grogu revealed that longtime Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels was credited in an acting role for the movie. Specifically, he portrayed a character named "Droid Flight Dispatcher." This was a voice-only role for Daniels, but it did allow him to make a cameo appearance in the film.

Notably, this extends Daniels' historic streak of appearing in every single Star Wars movie to ever be released. He is most well-known for his portrayal of C-3PO in the Skywalker Saga, but since 3PO wasn't expected to be in The Mandalorian & Grogu at all, many weren't expecting Daniels to return. 

Maul – Shadow Lord's unexpected release on a different platform runs deeper than a simple marketing gimmick. The 2026 Clone Wars sequel premiered with a two-episode Disney+ run on April 6, following a weekly batch-release model that built anticipation throughout Season 1. The Mandalorian and Grogu is the first Star Wars theatrical film in nearly 50 years to forgo lightsabers, breaking the franchise's 49-year tradition. None of the main characters and supporting players use lightsabers in the movie, and there is a notable absence of Jedi and Sith appearances as well. 

The Mandalorian and Grogu utilized Grogu's historic Jedi ability, and he did it in the film's most pivotal moment. As a highly sensitive Force user and member of Yoda's species, Grogu possesses many different (and familiar) abilities that feel both familiar to longtime Jedi lore and uniquely his own, such as telekinesis, a Force barrier, Force Sense, and a focal connection with other Jedi. Grogu received early Jedi training at the Coruscant Jedi Temple before Order 66, and his brief but meaningful training with Luke Skywalker after The Mandalorian Season 2 made him a more formidable Force user. The Mandalorian and Grogu accelerated Grogu's growth, actively contributing to battles with his evolving powers during high-stakes missions. 

The Mandalorian and Grogu brought back Grogu's historic Jedi ability: Force healing. After being stung with the poison of a Dragon Snake (due to the evil schemes of the Hutt Twins), Din Djarin was left injured, but he still managed to escape capture with the help of Grogu and the Anzellans.

During the Writing the Star Wars Universe panel at Megacon 2026 last March (via Popverse), Star Wars: Bloodline author Claudia Gray and Mara Jade creator Timothy Zahn revealed that Lucasfilm repeatedly told them and other Star Wars authors that they cannot bring Mara Jade into canon: 

Claudia Gray: "A couple of times I was like, ‘Really? Really, no Mara Jade?’ And they were like, ‘Nope.'"

Lucasfilm is ending its seven-year streak of live-action Star Wars Disney+ series in 2026. Up until Disney+'s launch, Star Wars' only TV ventures came through animated shows like The Clone Wars, Rebels, and Resistance. Therefore, when Disney+ debuted, one of its biggest selling points was the promise of blockbuster-scale Star Wars storytelling on TV, which has since spawned shows like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor.

Disney's 2026 Upfronts presentation confirmed that Ahsoka Season 2 was delayed out of 2026 and will now be released in early 2027. That delay leaves only the theatrical Mandalorian and Grogu and several animated shows in this year's Star Wars slate, making 2026 the first year not to include a new live-action show in the galaxy far, far away since Disney+ launched in 2019.

Ahsoka's delay is surprising, given that filming took place from April to October 2025, meaning that it will spend over a year in post-production. Many speculated that Ahsoka Season 2 will undergo major reshoots, possibly adjusting its endgame since Lucasfilm seems to be saying goodbye to the MandoVerse. 

Disney+ failed fans with Maul: Shadow Lord's finale release. Maul's finale arrived with a unique release plan on Monday, April 4, abandoning the Disney+ series' usual drop of 12 a.m. PT and instead pivoting to release at "12 a.m. local time." That strategy was intended to ensure Shadow Lord's climactic chapters dropped as soon as the clock struck Star Wars Day, regardless of region.

Unfortunately, Disney+ and Lucasfilm let Star Wars fans down in that regard, as the Maul: Shadow Lord finale's promised "local time" drop wasn't exactly the same in the U.S. Instead, across every U.S. time zone, the episodes dropped at 12 a.m. PT, meaning those on the East Coast had to wait until 3 a.m. ET.

In the moment, that left only disappointment for many eager viewers who had planned to stay up late and kick off their Star Wars Day with a bang, hampering excitement for the two-part finale that began a historic week for Disney+.

A stunning new logo designed for Lucasfilm’s upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter movie starring Ryan Gosling was revealed, and longtime fans are already spotting some fascinating inspirations behind it. The film, directed by Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy, remains one of the franchise’s most mysterious theatrical projects ahead of its planned May 28, 2027, release.

Krypton and Lanterns actor Aaron Pierre, who co-stars with Gosling in the film, posted a black-and-white photo of himself wearing a baseball cap featuring a triangular Starfighter logo in early May 2026.
