Grogu's official image has changed on Disney+ following the arrival of The Mandalorian & Grogu on streaming. While the original Star Wars series was dedicated to the Mandalorian, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), as its main character, his young apprentice, Grogu (formerly referred to as Baby Yoda), quickly stole the spotlight. The Mandalorian & Grogu marked the big-screen debut of the duo back in May, and the latest Star Wars flick is on Disney+ as of September 2.

Disney+ subscribers have noted that since the new Star Wars movie arrived on the service, Grogu's official profile picture has been adjusted. Disney+ users can choose from a selection of characters from their favorite titles on the service, and Grogu and Djarin from The Mandalorian have been options for some time. However, in conjunction with The Mandalorian & Grogu's streaming release, both characters' images have been updated to reflect their looks in the film.

Grogu's profile image now sees the youngling wearing his Beskar chainmail armor, with the Mudhorn emblem that signifies Grogu and Din Djarin's clan. This Grogu puppet is also far more intricate, with the picture showing more detail in his eyes and facial features.

Ahsoka Season 2 is only about four months out from its January 20, 2027, release date on Disney+, and fans can anticipate even more familiar characters from other Star Wars projects to appear. One of Star Wars' greatest strengths over the decades has been its interconnectivity, especially prevalent during a newfound age of crossovers. 2023's Ahsoka Season 1 followed this trend, with characters from Star Wars Rebels, The Clone Wars, and the live-action Skywalker Saga appearing.

Xander Berkeley, who previously appeared as Gilad Pellaeon in The Mandalorian Season 3, teased a potential return to the role in Ahsoka Season 2. In a series of photos on Instagram from April 2026, Berkeley can be seen wearing a puffer jacket featuring the Ahsoka Season 2 logo. The caption perhaps alludes to this Easter egg with a note of "Clues hidden within:"

"To have achieved action-figure, funko-pop status… to have my likenesses made manifest in doll form, is an honor (however dubious:). Something old, Something new, Clues hidden within."

Ryan Gosling's Star Wars: Starfighter just did something no Star Wars movie has ever done ahead of its release. Lucasfilm is counting on the film to get Star Wars back on track in theaters after The Mandalorian & Grogu fell short of box office expectations. Gosling, meanwhile, is arguably having the best run of his career, coming off Project Hail Mary and a new deal to play Ghost Rider in the MCU. Excitement for Starfighter keeps growing ahead of its release next summer, and at D23, Disney and Lucasfilm just gave fans a new reason to pay attention.

That reason is Starfighter's first teaser trailer, which Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling unveiled together on the D23 stage, and the reconfirmation that the movie arrives May 28, 2027. 

What makes the teaser genuinely historic isn't just that it exists. It's who's in it, or more specifically, how few people are in it. This is the first publicly released Star Wars teaser to only focus on just three characters. Before now, every Star Wars teaser has leaned on a packed ensemble, often translating to immense scope and scale.

Disney+ confirmed where exactly The Mandalorian and Grogu fits into the timeline of Star Wars history following the film's theatrical run. Coming back to theaters for the first time in seven years, the galaxy far, far away expanded on the story told on Disney+'s The Mandalorian, led by veteran star Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin. Set largely apart from the events of the Skywalker Saga, one question for fans is how it fits alongside everything already seen in the franchise over the last 49 years.

The Mandalorian and Grogu was added to Disney+ on September 2, 2026, 103 days after it first came to theaters on May 22, 2026. Upon its debut on the streamer, Disney placed it on the official Star Wars timeline after 2024's Skeleton Crew and directly before the animated Star Wars Resistance series from 2018.

Largely taking place alongside the early seasons of The Mandalorian in the timeline, Skeleton Crew focuses on a group of four children who get lost in the galaxy during the New Republic era after launching on a mysterious spaceship from their home planet of At Attin. Not knowing how to get themselves back, they get stranded at a distant spaceport and learn that their planet is a complete unknown in the galaxy. From there, they are rescued by Jude Law's Jod Na Nawood, and the kids eventually band together to outsmart pirate captains and uncover the mystery behind their ship and home planet.

At long last, Ahsoka Season 2 is soaring back with a sprawling cast of Star Wars characters, and they're coming in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and strengths. The Disney+ series has been gone for years, with Season 2 potentially serving as the finale of the live-action MandoVerse, which began in 2019. Many of the characters coming back are Force users with some serious abilities, but the show's roster of players extends well beyond the Force-wielders most fans think of. Ahsoka Season 2 will be about lore-building material, having already stretched beyond the known galaxy in Season 1, but will also include political intrigue. 

Ahsoka Season 2 finally confirmed release date: January 20, 2027, on Disney+. That date follows a lengthy delay that pushed the season out of its original 2026 window, a move that displeased the vast majority of fans. It's especially when filming began back in April 2025, creating a 21-month gap between the time cameras began rolling, and the season will begin to stream.

Lucasfilm built up the wait at D23 2026, where Lucasfilm co-President director Dave Filoni was joined onstage by Rosario Dawson, Eman Esfandi, and Hayden Christensen for a panel confirming the release date and its trailer release, the creative team called "massive," with Thrawn's (Lars Mikkelsen) threat said to loom large over the whole season. 

The impact of Order 66 is still rippling through the Star Wars universe, including in the franchise's latest release, Star Wars Zero Company. The new video game from Bit Reactor is a turn-based strategy game set in the Star Wars universe during the Clone Wars era, and tasks the player with controlling Captain Hawks of the Zero Company, a group of misfits and mercenaries. As the game explores the tumultuous era of Star Wars history, it ultimately culminates in one of the franchise's biggest events: Order 66.

Star Wars Zero Company provides yet another perspective on Order 66, the event in which Emperor Palpatine deems the Jedi Order traitors and activates Clone Troopers across the galaxy to execute them. This pivotal event results in most of the Jedi being wiped out, with the remaining Jedi going on the run to evade the Empire.

Star Wars is officially switching genres this month by exploring a mostly untapped aspect of the galaxy far, far away. While action, family, and drama have been the calling cards of the Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm's willingness to tap into the horror genre has grown louder. In January 2026, insider Daniel Richtman claimed that a horror Disney+ project under the Star Wars umbrella is in the works, but it's unclear how far along the series is in development. While the wait for on-screen horror is still a while, Star Wars embraced the horror genre with a new 2026 release on September 1: Hiding from the Dark, a novel by New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White. 

As the first canon Star Wars horror novel, Hiding from Dark follows Bia Rovyno as she tracks down her mother after she went missing during a business trip. When Bia tries their secret communicator, Imperial agents arrive. While she did try to search for her, her plan was thwarted by Darth Vader's arrival. 

Lucasfilm confirmed Taika Waititi's return to the Star Wars universe over half a decade after his movie in this franchise was announced. Known for his Oscar-winning work on Jojo Rabbit and his long tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Waititi is also known for many years of work with the galaxy far, far away. While some of that work is still being developed, his return to the intergalactic saga is imminent.

Lucasfilm confirmed that Taika Waititi will return to voice the role of IG-11/IG-12 in the upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian special on Disney+. The noted director/writer/actor first brought the character to life in The Mandalorian on Disney+, starring in three episodes from Season 1 and three more from Season 3. This will be his first time voicing the character since that series ended in 2023.

Disney+'s new The Mandalorian remake seemingly won't include a core character: Gina Carano's Cara Dune. Following three seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+, Lucasfilm made the shift earlier this year to transition the franchise to the big screen with The Mandalorian & Grogu. Now, in conjunction with The Mandalorian & Grogu coming to streaming, Disney+ is releasing a remake of the original three The Mandalorian seasons in LEGO form.

LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian is a comedic retelling of the Star Wars TV series, featuring iconic moments from all three seasons of the show, woven into one streaming special. However, Carano's Cara Dune, a regular recurring character in Seasons 1 and 2 of The Mandalorian, has not appeared in the trailer or marketing for the LEGO remake and has seemingly been written out. 

A press release for LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian lists all the major characters and their voice actors, with some being actors from the live-action series reprising their roles and others being recasts. Gina Carano is absent from the list, as is Cara Dune, suggesting that not only will Carano not be featured in the series, but Disney+ also opted not to recast her character with a different actor, omitting Cara Dune entirely from the narrative.

The Mandalorian is back, but it's not Pedro Pascal behind the helmet. The Fantastic Four: First Steps star portrayed the Mandalorian hero, Din Djarin, in all three seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+ and the recent movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu. However, for Djarin's next appearance, Disney+ replaced Pascal with another actor.

Disney confirmed that, along with the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu on Disney+ on September 2, the studio is also releasing a new special: LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian. The special is a comedic retelling of moments from all three seasons of The Mandalorian in LEGO form, but the first trailer and press release for LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian confirm that Pascal won't be voicing his Star Wars hero in the new project. Instead, Gavin Hammon will be stepping in to voice Din Djarin.

Lucasfilm is officially recasting the Client (the iconic Star Wars character played by legendary actor Werner Herzog in The Mandalorian) in the next project that will be released within Star Wars' MandoVerse. Since The Mandalorian debuted in 2019, the Disney+ series and all of the titles that have stemmed from it have featured many A-list actors, such as Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Giancarlo Esposito, and Werner Herzog. For the most part, many of those actors have continued to portray their characters in future projects, but Herzog is about to be replaced.

Star Wars recently confirmed that Werner Herzog will no longer play the Client in the franchise's MandoVerse, and instead, the role will be taken over by Flula Borg in the next installment of the Mandalorian-related titles. Specifically, this change will occur in the upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian special that will be released on Disney+ on September 2 (Which luke Skywalker will also be featured in).

Disney announced the five-issue limited comic book series, titled Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles and written by Kevin Smith, as part of the festivities for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope. Smith explained that, as a kid, he always imagined what it would be like if a character like Spider-Man could visit a galaxy far, far away (via StarWars.com). Well, now, as an adult, he's getting to let his imagination run wild.

The pop culture icon isn't going full Patton Oswalt in Parks and Recreation, though. Alongside the announcement, Disney released art that teased some of the team-ups readers can look forward to seeing when the title arrives in 2027. They all work really well, even if it takes a bit of digging to unearth their significance.

Star Wars: Zero Company revealed the official look of Hawks amid uncertainty about the new Star Wars game's fully customizable protagonist. Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars: Zero Company allows players to command a small covert unit designed for off-the-books missions while the Clone Wars are happening in the background. The lead character in the covert unit is Hawks, the leader of Zero Company, and the only operator who cannot permanently die because the campaign is built around him. If Hawks dies in a story mission, the operation restarts. 

In the game, Hawks is a customizable protagonist, meaning that players can choose his species, sex, first name, face, voice, clothing, and combat specialization. Embracing this freedom to choose who Hawks is for the player opens up many storytelling opportunities for the game, but the Star Wars Databank, the official online Star Wars encyclopedia, confirms that Hawks is a human male. 

Hawks is depicted as a bearded human male wearing a dark leather coat over a high-collared green shirt. This design was heavily featured in Zero Company's opening cinematic before diving deep into character creation.

Star Wars has announced Temuera Morrison's return as Boba Fett five years after his Disney+ flop. Having previously played Boba's father, Jango Fett, Morrison debuted as the iconic original trilogy bounty hunter in The Mandalorian Season 2 and went on to helm his own spin-off series, The Book of Boba Fett. While the MandoVerse spin-off had many good elements, it didn’t resonate with Star Wars audiences, ranking among the lowest-rated live-action shows in franchise history and being abandoned after just one season on Disney+.

Five years after The Book of Boba Fett failed, Temuera Morrison is officially returning to voice Boba Fett in a new Disney+ special, LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian. The retelling of Din Djarin and Grogu's TV adventures is set for a Wednesday, September 2 release on Disney+, arriving on the same day The Mandalorian & Grogu starts streaming. Morrison's return comes amid a sea of uncertainty about Boba Fett's future after his five-year absence.

Disney+ will officially release seven major Marvel and Star Wars projects in September. August has been an exciting month for Disney+; Star Wars fans were treated to Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi, a stellar new anime that has been overlooked by many, while MCU enthusiasts enjoyed the tail-end of X-Men '97 Season 2. Most collectors will be aware that LEGO doesn't have an ever-expanding range, as the brick manufacturer regularly retires sets to clear warehouse space, manage production limits, and make way for new releases over the years. 

LEGO Is Saying Goodbye to 10 Major Star Wars Sets in 2026

Star Wars has officially confirmed a special Force ability shared by both Yoda and Grogu. The origins of the pair's species are shrouded in mystery, and they are among the rarest beings in the galaxy. So far, the only other known member of the species is Yaddle, who made her first appearance in the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Although much isn't known about them, one unusual inbuilt trait they possess has been confirmed.

The Mandalorian and Grogu visual effects supervisor John Knoll revealed this special ability in an interview with Polygon, and it's linked to the mud hut the child builds in the film, Star Wars' first theatrical release in seven years. Fans would recall that in the movie, Din Djarin and his ward have a run-in with the Hutts, who take them captive on Nal Hutta. 

After a series of action-packed events, they manage to escape, but in the course of doing so, Din is poisoned by a dragonsnake bite, which leaves his body paralyzed in the forest. 

Star Wars recently confirmed that Lars Mikkelsen's Thrawn will be receiving a character redesign in Ahsoka Season 2, which will be released on Disney+ on January 20, 2027. Ahsoka Season 1 premiered on Disney+ back in 2023, so fans are more than excited to get to return to the world of Star Wars and catch up with Ahsoka and the Rebels crew when the show finally returns in 2027. Most of the main characters who were in Season 1 are returning for Season 2, including Lars Mikkelsen's Grand Admiral Thrawn, who will be receiving an official redesign.

Lucasfilm officially released the first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2, teasing what fans can expect from the upcoming chapter of the MandoVerse Disney+ series. While many of the show's most notable characters were highlighted and given ample screen time in the footage, it was made clear, based on the shots he was featured in, that Grand Admiral Thrawn went through a full redesign for Season 2.

Star Wars just released a new look at a de-aged Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker during the New Republic era in a new Mandoverse series art. The Mandalorian Season 2 unexpectedly brought back Hamill's character in Episode 8, "The Rescue," where he effortlessly chopped down Moff Gideon's Dark Troopers with his green lightsaber. He later returned in The Book of Boba Fett, serving as Grogu's teacher. These Disney+ appearances marked the first time fans saw the Jedi Master in the New Republic era, a period set years after Return of the Jedi on the Star Wars timeline.

The new de-aged look comes from the covers of Marvel Comics' Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett #6, a seven-issue series adapting the Disney+ show, written by Rodney Barnes with art by Will Sliney. Luke appears on the main edition as well as one of its variant covers. The issue, which arrives on November 25, adapts the sixth episode of the series, "From the Desert Comes a Stranger," where Hamill made his first and only appearance in the show.
