Star Wars Celebration in 2025 confirmed that Star Wars: Starfighter will take place at a historic point on the timeline. Lucasfilm confirmed the new film is set five years after the events of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, making it the first film to tackle the galaxy far, far away in the era after the Sequel Trilogy. As Star Wars enters this unprecedented chapter, there's no telling which threads from previous films it may pick up on, but a new report has hinted at one element Starfighter may utilize from The Skywalker Saga.

A report from Making Star Wars (shared by Comicbook.com) reveals that Star Wars: Starfighter will have some connections to the new Jedi Order, founded by Rey (Daisy Ridley). 

Andor creator Tony Gilroy needed to include one setting from George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy in the Disney+ show, but he found it extremely difficult, as he didn't like the planet. Andor was an anomaly in the Star Wars universe for all the right reasons. Both seasons of the Disney+ show were acclaimed and widely regarded as among the best Star Wars content of all time; it was unlike anything the franchise had ever produced. While Gilroy did a good job of including places, characters, and weapons that appear throughout Star Wars, there was one location he didn't like at all.

In the art book titled The Art of Star Wars: Andor, series creator Tony Gilroy discussed some of the artistic decisions made in the Disney+ show and the influences from past Star Wars content. Specifically, Gilroy criticized George Lucas' version of Coruscant, one of the most famous and well-recognized planets in the prequel trilogy.

According to a scoop from Making Star Wars, Ryan Gosling is playing a character named Cade in 2027's Star Wars: Starfighter, described as a "rogue Han Solo-style" protagonist. 

While this is a rumor, it's safe to assume that Disney and Star Wars are renewing their efforts to introduce their own Han Solo replacement in 2027 with the arrival of Ryan Gosling's character. 

For decades, Star Wars did not do post-credits scenes at all. The franchise’s endings were definitive, emotional, and rarely interested in dangling teases for future projects. The first trailer for Star Wars' next Disney+ show, Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi, gave fans an idea of what they can expect from the Star Wars: Visions spin-off. The two-minute trailer included a lot of footage from the upcoming title, but it left fans with an extremely notable final shot, seemingly depicting the Darksaber being created.

Star Wars' MandoVerse has been objectively successful for Disney and Lucasfilm, but as the interconnected initiative is seemingly winding down, the galaxy far, far away will need something just as big and important to replace it. However, a perfect replacement already exists. The MandoVerse began in November 2019 with the release of The Mandalorian Season 1. A lot of Star Wars' live-action Disney+ projects make up the MandoVerse, including every season of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and the film The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Star Wars: Visions Presents  – The Ninth Jedi confirmed a game-changing lightsaber rule change in its first trailer. The upcoming limited anime series under the Star Wars: Visions Presents banner continues the story of Lah Kara from The Ninth Jedi and The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope as she trains in the ways of the Jedi on her journey to find her missing father. Star Wars kick-started marketing for the new anime with the release of its official trailer, and a standout element in the footage is tied to the lore surrounding lightsabers. 

The official trailer for Star Wars: Visions Presents  – The Ninth Jedi unveiled that the color of a lightsaber blade changes according to the wielder's alignment with and strength in the Force. This was clearly apparent at the 1:50 mark of the trailer when Kara's lightsaber turned red, which reflected her rage at that exact moment. 

In an interview with Star Wars.com, Supervising Director Kenji Kamiyama confirmed that the lightsaber lore change in Star Wars: Visions Presents  – The Ninth Jedi stemmed from a "delightful misconception." 

Star Wars officially brought back a character who took over for Kylo Ren in the Knights of Ren during the sequel trilogy, but this time, they gave them a bit of an upgrade in terms of how much they are in the spotlight. A lot of Star Wars fans agree that the sequel trilogy was a bit of a mess at times, particularly regarding the Knights of Ren. The Force Awakens introduced the Knights of Ren as a dangerous group of Force users led by Kylo Ren, but their potential was wasted in The Last Jedi or The Rise of Skywalker. However, Star Wars is still trying to build the faction out in other canon media.

Star Wars and Marvel Comics recently announced that a new canon comic book series titled The Fall of Kylo Ren would be released in 2026. The first issue will drop in August, with the second issue following in September. As shared via X by Star Wars Holocron, the cover for issue #2 has already been revealed, and it includes Kylo Ren alongside his replacement, Tava Ren.

A new era for Star Wars streaming appears to be here. Ever since The Mandalorian premiered in November 2019, every original Star Wars series debuted in one place: Disney+. That exclusivity made the platform the franchise’s undisputed streaming home for almost seven years, and Lucasfilm never wavered from it, no matter how many shows it produced.

This trend now looks set to end with Star Wars Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi, which will seemingly premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu on day one. Ahead of its full trailer release on July 2, the upcoming anime dropped a short teaser clip to build anticipation. Hulu’s official X and YouTube accounts posted this clip, with the Hulu logo appearing on the video’s thumbnail and at the end of the footage. If this dual release happens, The Ninth Jedi will become the first Star Wars series ever to stream simultaneously on both services from its premiere date. 

Star Wars fans hoping for a return to a Galaxy Far, Far Away on Disney+ are getting good news and bad news. Ahsoka Season 2 was recently pushed back to early 2027, stretching out a wait that's already dragged on since the show's first season wrapped in October 2023. But a new first look trailer has just confirmed that Disney+ isn't leaving the Star Wars slate empty until then, teasing another series set to arrive in 2026 before Ahsoka returns.

That confirmation comes from a new teaser for Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi, the Production I.G anime spinoff from director Kenji Kamiyama, set to land on Disney+ ahead of Ahsoka Season 2. 

The 29-second clip cuts through a handful of new scenes from the series and confirms that the full trailer arrives Thursday, July 2, the same day Lucasfilm will be screening the show's first episode at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles. 

Disney+ revealed an online promotion for The Mandalorian and Grogu, celebrating the Star Wars film's theatrical run ahead of its eventual streaming debut. The Mandalorian and Grogu had a wide theatrical release on May 22, and the film has been in theaters for over a month. While the box office performance of the latest Star Wars movie has been underwhelming, it still achieved notable feats, including surpassing Marvel Studios' greatest domestic box-office failure. While The Mandalorian and Grogu fell short of their box office goal, fans are already looking ahead of a rewatch at the comfort of their homes ahead of the movie's Disney+ debut. 

A new Disney+ advertisement (spotted by Mandoverse Updates) for The Mandalorian and Grogu emerged online with a caption that reads, "Get ready for The Mandalorian and Grogu in cinemas now," prompting viewers to watch episodes of The Mandalorian to prepare for the 2026 Star Wars movie.

Natalia Portman's Star Wars character has been immortalized in a detailed new statuette. Portman entered the galaxy far, far away in the Prequel trilogy of films, playing Padme Amidala, the Queen and Senator of Naboo, and the eventual wife of Anakin Skywalker. Portman hasn't appeared in the Star Wars universe on-screen for over 20 years, but her character's legacy lives on.

Sideshow Collectibles has unveiled an intricate new statue of Portman's Queen Amidala, featuring her regal costume and makeup from Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. Queen Amidala was one part of a dual role that Portman portrayed in the initial Star Wars film, with the other being Padme, the handmaiden in disguise. 

For the first time ever, Star Wars fans will finally get the opportunity to purchase a LEGO Star Wars minifigure of George Lucas, the creator of the multi-billion-dollar franchise. George Lucas' impact on Star Wars literally cannot be measured. He may not own the rights to Lucasfilm or the Star Wars brand any longer, but the universe would not exist if he hadn't created and released the original movie (now known as A New Hope) in 1977. 

According to a report from Brick Tap via Instagram, LEGO Star Wars will release a new set sometime in 2027 that will include a minifigure of George Lucas. The details of the set itself were not revealed, just that a figure of Lucas will finally be released.

The Mandalorian & Grogu doesn't have the entire weight of the galaxy on its shoulders. Despite focusing on two characters with major ties to Star Wars heavyweights like Boba Fett and Luke Skywalker, the movie reins itself in, putting nearly all of its stock in the bond between the two titular characters. But The Mandalorian & Grogu still does do its studio, Lucasfilm, a pretty big favor by redeeming a movie character that's been the butt of jokes for nearly two decades.

As the marketing promised, The Mandalorian & Grogu kicks off with Din Djarin and his trusty companion kicking Imperial butt. The duo is working under the New Republic and doing everything they can to restore peace to the galaxy. Unfortunately, the good guys aren't in a position to turn down information about the Empire, even if it comes from a shady source.

Din and Grogu's crusade takes them to Nal Hutta, the home of the Hutt crime family, once led by Jabba. The new head honchos, the Twins, are willing to give up the hiding place of a key Imperial in exchange for the return of their nephew and Jabba's son, Rotta. If that name sounds familiar, it's because it's the very same member of the Hutt family that was a thorn in Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano's side in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie.

Maul: Shadow Lord's Season 1 finale unleashed Darth Vader at his most terrifying, and Lucasfilm boss Dave Filoni's recent comments perfectly explain why. The final two episodes of Season 1 of the 2026 Clone Wars sequel on Disney+ showed Maul and a group of his unlikely allies (a surviving Jedi, Master Daki, and his padawan, Devon Izara) attempt to escape Imperial forces on Janix. However, they run directly into the Empire's most dangerous enforcer: Darth Vader, who emerged from the shadows as a silent, unstoppable force. What made Darth Vader's appearance in Maul: Shadow Lord's finale so sinister is the fact that Vader spoke zero lines in the entire sequence. 

Speaking with Gizmodo, Lucasfilm president and Star Wars creative Dave Filoni confirmed a harsh truth about Darth Vader's silence in Maul: Shadow Lord, noting that it was essential to who the character has become: one who "does not have compassion" and only sees the things he wants to destroy: 

"Maul is struggling to let go of hate, but Anakin got consumed by it,” he continued. “If he were to face what he did, it would destroy him more. I find a lot of pity for him because of what he did and the depth of his treachery. And that’s Darth Vader. Anakin’s trapped in there somewhere, and Darth Vader won’t let him surface. And so to me, the key is not to actually give him a character. He’s devoid of it because he doesn’t care. Darth Vader does not care. He does not have compassion. He does not see you. He sees the thing he wants to destroy, and he will do that."

The second season of Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is set to reunite two incredible characters from the galaxy far, far away. The new Lucasfilm animated series takes place in the aftermath of Revenge of the Sith, as the ex-Sith Lord, Darth Maul, attempts to rebuild his criminal empire in the wake of the Galactic Empire's takeover. The first season of Maul - Shadow Lord was incredibly well-received when it debuted on Disney+ in April 2026, and a Season 2 is already in the works.

Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord not only brought back the intriguing character of Darth Maul (voiced by Sam Witwer) from The Phantom Menace, but it also paired him with Devon Izara (Gideon Adlon), a conflicted young Jedi apprentice, forced on the run. Under the mentorship of her master, Eeko-Dio Daki (Dennis Haysbert), Devon has learned to follow the Jedi principles, but in the wake of Order 66, she started to reconsider her future throughout Season 1.

Encountering Darth Maul was a turning point for Devon, as she became tempted by his teachings, ultimately succumbing to the Dark Side and agreeing to train as his apprentice in the season finale. 

The next chapter in Disney+'s MandoVerse will not be released until another major Star Wars event releases. The MandoVerse has driven much of Star Wars' run on Disney+ since it began in 2019 with the original season of The Mandalorian. While almost a handful of series have added to that saga on Disney's streaming service, the franchise will go in another direction in the immediate future.

Star Wars will make Star Wars Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi the next release for the franchise on Disney+ in Summer 2026. This series is a spin-off of the original animated Star Wars: Visions, which has run for three seasons on Disney+ since its September 2021 release.

While Star Wars: Visions is one of Star Wars' lower-rated shows, The Ninth Jedi was one of the most celebrated episodes during Visions' first season. This even led Star Wars to revisit the story for a second episode in Season 3, which picked up immediately after the events of The Ninth Jedi. This new project also becomes the first-ever Star Wars anime spin-off in franchise history.

Star Wars is finally getting a brand new video game release in just a few days, and there is much more to come from the Lucasfilm franchise. The 2020s have brought an excess of Star Wars video game announcements, with a much smaller selection actually making their way to gamers. Between Respawn's action-adventure sequel, Jedi: Survivor, Ubisoft's open-world tale, Outlaws, and TT Games' LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, there have been some standouts this generation, but fans are hankering for more. 

Star Wars' next major video game is finally about to be released on Tuesday, June 30, after a three-week delay. In partnership with Hasbro, Ubisoft will offer up Monopoly Star Wars: Heroes vs. Villains to gamers on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, GeForce NOW, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Developed by Behaviour Interactive, Monopoly Star Wars is putting a unique team-based spin on the classic property ladder board game as players control heroes and villains from a 28-character roster from the galaxy's finest. That roster includes icons from all three Star Wars trilogies, along with other movies and TV shows, such as Darth Vader, Ahsoka Tano, Cad Bane, and Rey.

Star Wars officially unveiled a new artwork of Grand Admiral Thrawn, showcasing a stunning look at the Ahsoka villain ahead of Lars Mikkelsen's return in Season 2 of the Disney+ series. Ahsoka Season 1 completely reversed Thrawn's fate in Star Wars Rebels by bringing him back into the main galaxy, leaving Ahsoka and Sabine Wren trapped in a different one in Peridea. The finale sets the stage for a more dangerous Thrawn in Ahsoka Season 2, further pushing the Star Wars villain to the forefront as an overarching threat hounding the New Republic. 

Ahead of Thrawn's much-awaited return in Ahsoka Season 2, Star Wars revealed the official cover art for the deluxe version of Timothy Zahn's Thrawn novel, showing a scary look at the Star Wars villain.
