Anakin Skywalker's secret marriage, the fear of losing Padmé, and inability to "let go" became the textbook example of why this very rule existed. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed he already watched Starfighter, and he loved what he saw. His comments amount to the first official public review of the new Star Wars movie, and they arrive at a moment when the franchise badly needs a theatrical win.

Carl Weathers' Greef Karga returned to Star Wars in a special tie-in comic to The Mandalorian & Grogu. Lucasfilm's decision to replace The Mandalorian Season 4 with The Mandalorian & Grogu forced the studio to omit several crucial characters from the Disney+ series from the summer flick. One beloved icon was never going to make the cut for The Mandalorian & Grogu, as the actor behind Greef Karga, Rocky star Carl Weathers, passed away months before production began.

The Mandalorian & Grogu has come and gone from theaters, and it will soon start streaming alongside its three-season TV predecessor on Disney+. However, a new one-shot prequel comic, The Mandalorian & Grogu - Danger in the Dark, recently hit shelves from Mad Cave, Papercutz, and Disney. Beyond leading directly into the summer blockbuster, the one-shot notably brings back Carl Weathers' Greef Karga, two years after the actor's passing.

A galaxy far, far away is in turmoil, and it's not the Empire's fault this time. Lucasfilm's latest movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, opened lower than expected, bringing home just north of $100 million at the domestic box office over its four-day opening weekend. And its second weekend wasn't any kinder, as two low-budget horror films, Obsession and The Backrooms, knocked it down to the number three spot and helped it set some unfortunate Star Wars records.

The unfortunate reality is that The Mandalorian & Grogu is far from the first Star Wars movie to miss its mark. Solo: A Star Wars Story also struggled to reel in cash back in 2018, ending its theatrical run just under $400 million, making it the lowest-grossing movie in the franchise's history. Fans just didn't connect with Ron Howard's version of the galactic outlaw, and they felt empowered to speak with their wallets after the controversy surrounding Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Of course, Rian Johnson's lone Star Wars project ignited debates all across the internet, mostly because of its depiction of Luke Skywalker. When the hero that fans had waited decades to see on the big screen again failed to meet expectations, the final nail was driven into the sequel trilogy's critical coffin.

The MandoVerse's next chapter is a shift from the previous format. Star Wars' The Mandalorian universe began in 2019 with Season 1 of the Disney+ show, which has since expanded to include crossover and spin-off series like The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. The MandoVerse recently broke from the established TV format with the cinematic release of The Mandalorian & Grogu earlier in 2026, and it will change things up once again for the next installment.

It's been confirmed that the MandoVerse's next chapter is a comic book adaptation of The Book of Boba Fett. The Disney+ Star Wars series, released in 2021, starred Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, continuing the bounty hunter's story after his return in The Mandalorian and following his attempts to take power on Jabba the Hutt's old turf of Tatooine. 

The Book of Boba Fett was one of the lesser-loved installments in the MandoVerse, but each of its seven episodes will be remade in this new comic book. The comic will serve as a direct adaptation of the episodes, rather than a spin-off story set in the same world.

Star Wars' new movie found its own Chewbacca replacement, and the character filling the Wookiee’s shoes carries over a decade of franchise history. Chewbacca defined a particular kind of Star Wars hero, the loyal warrior who fights beside the lead, flies the ship, and softens the rogue at the center of the story. The Mandalorian and Grogu, the franchise’s first theatrical release in seven years, which arrived on May 22, gives Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin a partner cut from that same cloth.

Voice actor Steve Blum confirmed the comparison while discussing Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios, the gruff alien who serves as the film’s Chewbacca figure. In a conversation with StarWars.com, Blum described Zeb as a Chewbacca-like character in The Mandalorian and Grogu, a warrior, friend, and co-pilot who backs up Din Djarin the way Chewbacca once backed up Han Solo.

Disney+ finally announced when its longest-running Star Wars Disney+ series will premiere. While Lucasfilm has had more success than Marvel Studios in bringing multi-season content to Disney+, there haven't been many shows that have gotten a second go-round in the galaxy far, far away. From that exclusive club, The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch have already wrapped up after three seasons, as has Andor with two, and Ahsoka's fate beyond next year's Season 2 is unclear. However, one Star Wars Disney+ series stands tall as its longest-running by far, and its future continues to shine as bright as a lightsaber: Visions.

Visions began in September 2021 as an anthology series featuring episodes from some of Japan's best anime studios. Two years later, Season 2 expanded Visions with tales from studios around the world, like the U.K., Spain, Chile, France, India, and more, before last year's third season returned to its Japanese roots.

For many reasons, Visions has been declared one of Star Wars' best Disney+ series, in part because, unlike other shows, it is not bound by canon or existing stories and characters, instead simply focusing on using the IP in unique ways.

Star Wars just released a historic replacement for The Mandalorian Season 4. The hit Disney+ series wrapped its third season in 2023, and Lucasfilm then moved Din Djarin and Grogu’s story to theaters with The Mandalorian and Grogu, which released on May 22. A fourth season never entered production, and a recent official featurette listed the show as running from 2019 to 2023, a strong hint that its streaming days are over.

The replacement arrived in print. The Mandalorian and Grogu: Danger in the Dark released on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Papercutz, the kid-focused imprint of Mad Cave Studios, published the one-shot comic in collaboration with Lucasfilm Publishing. The story unfolds after The Mandalorian Season 3 and shortly before the events of the movie, covering a stretch of Din and Grogu’s lives that no season ever showed.

Ahsoka Season 2 is officially changing one of Season 1’s greatest character decisions. Fans have already been waiting three years for Ahsoka to return to Disney+ with new episodes, and they should be prepared to wait a while longer, as Season 2 was recently delayed to Early 2027. The MandoVerse spin-off remains one of Star Wars’ best received Disney+ shows, partly due to the return of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker. Having trained a young Ahsoka Tano before his turn to the Dark Side, the Chosen One returns to guide his former Padawan from the afterlife in Season 1’s second half.

Season 1 found a winning formula in utilizing Anakin in a sparing, but significant way, ensuring that it always felt special and served Ahsoka's story. Having already confirmed Anakin's return for Season 2 and featured his new costume in early footage at Disney's Upfronts, it seems the Chosen One is stepping up to a larger supporting role, not a cameo-esque guest star.

Fans have known as far back as Episode VI - Return of the Jedi that Anakin becomes a Force ghost after his defeat as Darth Vader. However, Lucasfilm has never spent much time with Anakin chronologically after the original trilogy, keeping his perfect storyline from Episodes 1-6 contained and untarnished.

Star Wars recently released one of its best TV shows of all time, and while it was widely considered a great project at the surface level, what it could mean for the future of the franchise is even more notable and exciting, especially considering how Disney has handled the universe for more than a decade. Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm from George Lucas in 2012, it can not be argued that the franchise as a whole has been noticeably different on multiple levels. Some fans have enjoyed the way Disney has presented Star Wars, and others haven't, but something happened in a recent title that points to Disney giving the fans what they have wanted for years now.

Disney and Lucasfilm recently released a Star Wars Disney+ series titled Maul - Shadow Lord, and it quickly became one of the most popular and well-received projects of all time within the galaxy far, far away. The show was praised for many different reasons, but perhaps more importantly, it proved that Star Wars could be changed forever, particularly regarding the Sith.

Maul - Shadow Lord introduced fans to a brand new Star Wars character named Devon Izara. The show established that she was a Jedi Padawan who had survived Order 66 alongside her master, Eeko-Dio Daki, but that she was conflicted about the nature of the Jedi. Specifically, as the series progressed, her loyalty to the Jedi Order began to wane naturally, but even more so after Maul himself planted seeds of doubt in her mind.

Lucasfilm just fully leaned into an iconic meme and decided to officially canonize it by including it in The Mandalorian and Grogu. In the ever-expanding Star Wars universe, non-characters from the Star Wars Legends continuity and Expanded Universe regularly make the jump into official Star Wars canon. Notable examples include Grand Admiral Thrawn, Cad Bane, and Asajj Ventress, who have successfully crossed over from non-canon Star Wars Legends stories into Star Wars canon projects like Star Wars Rebels, The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, and Ahsoka. Even more beloved Legends figures have been making headlines lately, such as the return of Luke Skywalker's wife, Mara Jade, in Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and the Black Series figures of Jacen and Jaina Solo (Han Solo and Leia Organa's twin children from Star Wars Legends). 

This long-running tradition of elevating deep-cut Star Wars Legends characters into modern Star Wars media is exactly what inspired the iconic Glup Shitto meme. Coined by Star Wars fans, "Glup Shitto" became the playful shorthand for any obscure, oddly named background character from Star Wars lore that suddenly reappears and sends the fandom into celebration. 

Lucasfilm has taken the joke to its ultimate conclusion by including it in canon through a poster seen in The Mandalorian and Grogu. As pointed out by Star Wars Holocron, a background fight poster officially introduced "Glop Shdo", a brand-new character set to battle Rotta the Hutt in the movie. 

After officially announcing that a Dark Side version of Master Yoda would be added to the list of characters in the galaxy far, far away, Star Wars provided fans with a first look at what the character will look like when he makes his debut. Yoda is undoubtedly one of the most well-known and beloved characters in Star Wars history. Since he was introduced in 1980's The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda has appeared in multiple films and TV shows set within the world of Star Wars, and continues to be one of the franchise's most important characters.

Yoda has historically been depicted as someone who, on the spectrum of the Force, is as far to the Light Side as one can get. However, Star Wars and EA will be treating fans to a Dark Side version of the character in a new era that is coming to Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, and EA even released a full look at this Yoda's character design. Notably, many Star Wars fans will likely be familiar with it, as this isn't the first time it has ever been showcased in a Star Wars project.

For reference, Star Wars and EA recently announced that a new wave of characters will be coming to Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, as part of an expansion titled "Era of Myths & Legends." Notably, the characters within this expansion are marketed as names who have either appeared in Star Wars Legends projects (the Legends part of the expansion title) or characters who have become popular in fan theories, such as Darth Jar Jar (Myths). 

Darth Jar Jar just made his official Star Wars return, and new first-look photos show the villainous Gungan at his most menacing yet. The character began as a fan theory, sparked by a 2015 Reddit post arguing that Jar Jar Binks secretly orchestrated the events of the prequel trilogy as a hidden Sith mastermind. Lucasfilm treated the idea as a joke for years before slowly warming to it, and the dark side version of Jar Jar keeps finding new official homes.

The new first look at Darth Jar Jar comes from Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, the long-running mobile RPG published by EA and developed by Capital Games. On July 22, the studio shared a full kit reveal for the character, confirming the Sith Lord will join the roster as part of the game’s upcoming Era of Myths & Legends. A promotional image accompanied the announcement, giving fans their clearest look yet at a fully corrupted Jar Jar.

After seven years, Star Wars is finally launching a new sub-brand beyond the MandoVerse on Disney+, which could signal the end for the beloved streaming franchise. The multi-show story began with 2019's The Mandalorian and continued in The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew.

Things have since taken a turn for the franchise, with viewership for recent spinoffs on the decline. Even The Mandalorian Season 3 was not immune to audience drop-off, with its premiere seeing a 28% lower viewership in comparison to Obi-Wan Kenobi's debut episode. On top of that, an attempt to bring streaming viewers over to theatrical with the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu movie similarly failed to find success with general audiences.

Lucasfilm themselves may have even indicated that The Mandalorian brand is no more, with a recent documentary indicating that the company considers the show to have ended with its third season. With the MandoVerse seemingly in flux, a lack of a cohesive long-form story is concerning for the franchise's future.

Fans have been waiting a long time for Season 2 of Ahsoka, but there's a clear reason for the long gap between seasons. Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian in Season 2, before she was announced to lead her own self-titled show, which released its first season in 2023. The Disney+ show acted as a tie-in not only to The Mandalorian but also connected to the animated Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels series. Ahsoka is one of the few live-action Star Wars shows to receive a second season, but fans are still waiting for it three years later.

Looking back at Ahsoka Season 2's production timeline, the series has faced several stalls and delays, meaning the turnaround is not as quick as some hoped. Following Ahsoka Season 1's October 2023 finale, it took three months for a second season to be officially greenlit, which happened in January 2024. It would then take over a year for Ahsoka Season 2 to go into production, and filming officially began in April 2025. Filming continued for the better part of 2025 and had reportedly wrapped by October. 

Marketing still hasn't kicked in for Ahsoka Season 2 besides a brief appearance at Disney's Upfront in May, and fans have seen no public posters, teasers, footage, or anything indicating the series is coming any time soon. On top of all of that, the second season was recently delayed to 2027 after previously being slated for this year, meaning that it will be even longer before fans see the show again.

Star Wars officially brings back Luke Skywalker's wife, Mara Jade, in 2026, and her new design is stunning. Created by Timothy Zahn, Mara Jade is one of the most popular and beloved characters from the Star Wars Legends continuity. Initially raised as one of Emperor Palpatine's elite secret agents, the Emperor's Hands, Mara stood out as one of the best and eventually became a major antagonist with a personal vendetta against Luke Skywalker. The conflict against Grand Admiral Thrawn forced the pair into an uneasy alliance, which eventually developed into a deep romantic relationship and culminated in marriage. 

Amid the speculation about the character's live-action debut, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, as part of the "Era of Myths & Legends" update, (via EA Forum) officially revealed the return of Mara Jade as a new Light Side unit in the game. She is categorized as a Light Side Attacker, Jedi, and a member of the New Republic unit.

Disney+ confirmed that five Star Wars Jedi are returning in the franchise’s next TV show, Star Wars Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi. The upcoming anime is the first series released under the new Star Wars: Visions Presents banner, a label Lucasfilm created to expand fan-favorite stories from its Visions anthology into longer adventures. Japanese studio Production I.G, which helmed the original shorts, is once again handling the animation.

Lucasfilm revealed the returning Jedi through the show’s official trailer, which debuted at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, and the full cast rundown that followed. All eight episodes of the limited series will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on August 5. The story picks up shortly after the events of two earlier shorts, The Ninth Jedi from Star Wars: Visions Volume 1 and The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope from Volume 3. Kenji Kamiyama, who wrote and directed the first short, oversees the series as supervising director, while Shunsuke Tada directs from a script by Mitsuyasu Sakai. Newcomers Feodor Chin, Young Mazino, Chase Sui Wonders, and Keone Young join the voice cast alongside the familiar faces below. 

All 5 Jedi Returning in The Ninth Jedi

Ezra Bridger's next chapter in a galaxy far, far away will have a dramatic shift in Ahsoka Season 2, according to star Eman Esfandi. Ezra vanished from the Star Wars timeline at the end of Rebels, then resurfaced years later in Ahsoka Season 1 on Disney+, discovered alive on the remote world of Peridea after Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) tracked Thrawn there. By the Season 1 finale, Ezra had slipped off Thrawn's ship and reunited with Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) back in the main galaxy.

Speaking at SpaceCon, Eman Esfandi detailed how different production felt now that Ezra is a full-time presence rather than a late-season reveal. Esfandi opened by contrasting his light Season 1 workload with this new chapter, now being "involved the entire production:"

"Obviously, you guys know how long the break was between Season 1 and 2... Obviously, in the first season, I'm only in a couple episodes, pretty much, and I really was only involved a few months. And this time, I was involved the entire production and I was there [on the] last day of shooting."

Star Wars has found its next Luke Skywalker, kind of, and once again, that role belongs to a woman. Disney (on a much bigger scale) tried this before, setting up Daisy Ridley's Rey as the Sequel Trilogy's answer to Luke, a comparison that left much of the fanbase divided after The Rise of Skywalker. Now, years later, a new face is being compared directly to Mark Hamill's iconic young Jedi, this time headlining a far lower-risk Disney+ series coming soon.

That new face belongs to Lah Kara (voiced by Kimiko Glenn), the hero of Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, an eight-episode series spinning off from the two related Visions shorts from 2021 and 2025. 

Set in an era long after the Jedi and Sith have faded into legend, the story follows Kara as she trains under the mysterious Margrave Juro while trying to rescue her father, Lah Zhima (voiced by the MCU's Simu Liu), the galaxy's only known sabersmith, after Jedi Hunters capture him.
