Now that WandaVision is over, fans have begun speculating on what may be next for the characters in the Disney+ series. The finale's post-credits scenes did some work to set the stage for the upcoming adventures of Monica Rambeau and, of course, Wanda Maximoff herself.
It has been confirmed that Rambeau would be appearing alongside Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel 2, and Maximoff will return in next's year Docter Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
However, the future is much less clear for the show's other titular character, Vision.
WandaVision ended with the Vision inside the Hex disappearing along with Billy and Tommy as all the spells keeping it in place were lifted and the town of Westview returned to its normal state. However, the episode also featured the rebuilt original Vision regain his memories of his time with Wanda and the Avengers before flying off to somewhere unknown.
LEAVING THE DOOR OPEN
In an interview with Esquire, Vision actor Paul Bettany addressed the potential future of The Vision and what he would be interested to see happen next, commenting on how his character has "never had a loved one to lose,".
"I guess we've seen what happens to Wanda when love is taken away from her. And I wonder what that would look like with Vision. I mean, that's the thing, right? [Vision has] never had a loved one to lose…[he doesn't] know what grief is because [he's] never had a loved one to lose."
When asked if he would be game to play Vision forever, Bettany responded, “I love Vision. Yes, I'm in.”
THREE STRIKES AND NOT OUT
Even though Vision has died three times now in the MCU, there are still several ways in which he could return to the franchise. The most likely is in the form of the aforementioned rebuilt version of himself, who now has all his memories restored but seemingly none of the emotion that made the original Vision so humanlike.
The multiverse route is also an option as well. It's been teased in multiple projects now (and sort of incorporated via the time heist of Avengers: Endgame) but is shaping up to become a true factor by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at the latest and appears as if it will play a role in other upcoming projects within the franchise.
Viewers have now seen multiple Visions interact with each other, but it's possible the multiverse could lead to this sort of confrontation again, or it could simply introduce another version of Vision entirely. A past iteration of Vision could come into play as well, given that time travel is now known to be possible in the MCU.
All episodes of WandaVision are now available to stream on Disney+.
