Even simply looking at official trade reports, Spider-Man 3 is already looking to be a huge film with an ensemble cast of actors. Fans were shocked when it was announced that Jamie Foxx’s Electro would be returning, but not a week later, Benedict Cumberbatch was revealed to be joining too. As if that wasn't enough, Alfred Molina was reported to return as Doctor Octopus.
In terms of rumors, as if the official casting wasn't enough of an indication, Spider-Man 3 will be exposed to the multiverse, as Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will reportedly join this threequel with Tom Holland. This will include many of their supporting cast from their original films, such as Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy and Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane. But, one rumor that has really blown the minds of fans is Charlie Cox being a new lease on life as Daredevil.
Tom Holland has already said that he's “learned my lesson” in terms of spoiling movies he's starring in, but he still can't help but share his excitement for Spider-Man 3.
BIGGER THAN CIVIL WAR?
Speaking with Variety, Tom Holland was probed about whether he can tell them anything about Spider-Man 3. Proving he's learned his lesson about spoilers, he says “Obviously, I can't really say anything.”
Pushing their luck, the interviewer asks Holland if he can reveal what happens at the end with Holland relenting and saying that “What’s funny is like, I nearly told you then. You were so close to getting what you want.” The Spider-Man star goes on to praise the film, describing it as “the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made.”
"I can say that it’s the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made. You sit down, read the script, and see what they’re trying to do, and they’re succeeding. It’s really impressive. I’ve never seen a standalone superhero movie quite like it. And I’m just, you know, again, that lucky little shit who happens to be Spider-Man in it."
Holland mentions that there is still shooting to be done and that they've already been shooting for several weeks, with the star just as excited to see the final product as fans.
“We got a lot more shooting to do. We started before Christmas and shot for like seven weeks. We stopped for the Christmas break, and then we’re starting again. I’m just as excited as everyone else to see it, let alone be a part of it.”
HOLLAND MAY HAVE SHOWN HAND
Unfortunately, while Tom Holland said he'd learned his lesson about giving away spoilers, the actor may have given away something after all. When asked about the ending of Spider-Man 3, Holland says “I nearly told you then.” This could very well indicate that much of the ambitious nature of the movie could be happening in the third act or climax.
In an earlier report by KC of GWW, who originally broke the news of Alfred Molina returning as Doctor Octopus, most of these roles like Garfield and Maguire would be reserved “mostly” for the third act. So, it could be that KC's report is true and that the entire movie won't exclusively focus on the inclusion of the previous two Spider-Men. Of course, those two appearances are still a rumor, but how else could Spider-Man 3 be called “the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made” if it wasn't true?
