Thor: Love and Thunder is the second movie of the MCU's Phase 4 slate and will be released after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While the film is slated for a July 2022 release, marketing has yet to ramp up, leading fans to wonder about the reason behind the hold-up. Many have theorized that this could be due to reshoots, especially after director Taika Waititi revealed that it probably won't be ready to go until the "end of June [2022]."
Reshoots have become commonplace with high-budget blockbusters like Marvel Studios movies. This phase in production usually happens to fine-tune major scenes in the film while also adding more sequences.
In the past months, Eternals director Chloé Zhao has been at the forefront when it comes to sharing her thoughts about these reshoots. The Oscar-winning director admitted that reshoots are a "blessing" since they allowed her to improve some scenes for the movie.
Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed also chimed in on the topic, saying he used reshoots to make sure that "the best idea wins" while also revealing that it is "liberating" to learn that extra photography is simply "a given" on all MCU outings.
Now, it looks like Love and Thunder will undergo reshoots ahead of its upcoming release as well.
Thor 4's Cast & Crew Returns to Production
The Wrap shared that Thor: Love and Thunder is set to return for additional photography in the coming weeks.
It is unknown if this reshoot will have a direct effect on the sequel's release on July 8, 2022.
Will Thor 4 Shift Its Release Date?
It remains to be seen if these reshoots for Thor: Love and Thunder will be done to fine-tune significant scenes or if they could be used to add more characters to an already star-studded ensemble.
Still, the question remains if these reshoots will cause another delay for the film, especially after news broke that DC's 2022 slate had been pushed back.
Although marketing has officially begun for the film, the reshoots could also explain why Love and Thunder's much-talked-about trailer has yet to see the light of day. It's also possible that VFX shots are still being worked on by director Taika Waititi and the rest of the film's crew.
This isn't the first time Marvel has undergone reshoots at the last minute. It was previously reported that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness went through "significant" reshoots while the same was also true for Ms. Marvel.
Whatever the case, many would agree that these reshoots for the Chris Hemsworth-led movie shouldn't serve as a major cause of concern.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to premiere on July 8, 2022.
