Director/writer/actor Taika Waititi is back with Marvel Studios for his second full theatrical movie, which will arrive this July with Chris Hemsworth's Thor: Love and Thunder. The Oscar-winning director is only a few months away from delivering his latest pet project, as Hemsworth takes the God of Thunder on another wild adventure throughout the galaxy.

Waititi is well-known for his unique style of filmmaking and storytelling, which fans saw throughout 2017's Thor: Ragnarok as Thor, the Hulk, and more took on Hela and Asgard's demise. Thanks to that threequel's overwhelming success both with critics and with fans, the man behind Love and Thunder now gets to take everything he did five years ago and kick it up a notch or two.

With Thor 4 having faced the same delays as the rest of the MCU, fans are curious to find out when the movie will be complete and ready for its July 2022 release date. Well, Waititi recently answered that question, hinting that there's still plenty of work to do on the MCU's second movie of 2022.

Thor 4 Is Far From Finished

Variety spoke with Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi at the Independent Spirit Awards about his progress in making his latest MCU movie.

When asked to tell everything about Thor 4, he admitted that there was no more to tell while sharing that the film isn't completely finished yet. Speaking on the timeline for completion, Waititi teased that it probably won't be ready to go until the "end of June:"

Waititi: “There’s nothing left [to tell]. I’ve said everything for the last two years. It’s still not finished.”
Variety: “… When’s it gonna be finished?”
Waititi: “It comes out July so… probably like end of June. Like a day before the premiere. That’s how we do it.”

Much More Work for Waititi on Love and Thunder

Marvel Studios is no stranger to working on its movies and TV shows until the last minute to make sure each project is the best it can possibly be. This was seen most recently with Spider-Man: No Way Home, which came down to the wire with its own VFX work, finishing a week before the film debuted in theaters in December 2021.

While Taika Waititi could be giving fans an honest answer in regards to this timeline, there's his classic sense of humor to take into account as well.

Known for the comedy and laughs he brings to his films, Waititi regularly brings that to the real world, especially when discussing his work on the big screen. However, he did also admit to being prepared for a nervous breakdown to make sure the movie is ready to go as he puts in work to add to the MCU's growing narrative.

The truth behind Waititi's quotes won't be fully confirmed until the fourth Thor movie releases in theaters, which is still nearly half a year away. But with fans growing anxious to see even some of Waititi's work, especially with Marvel not having released the first trailer yet, the anxiety is building quickly.

Thor: Love and Thunder will debut in theaters on July 8, 2022.
