Even though Phase 4 of the MCU has ushered a number of new heroes into the fold via Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals, the remaining OG Avengers still have a story to tell. For instance, in July 2022, fans will finally revisit Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder, alongside Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, Taika Waititi's Korg, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Still, that's not all. While audiences know little about the fourth film's actual plot, they do know to expect more of director Taika Waititi's unique visual and comical style, along with an expanded cast including Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher and Natalie Portman's return as Jane Foster, who's expected to become Mighty Thor.
Just what's going on in Thor: Love and Thunder is any fan's guess, but toys and promotional material for the film have teased a new look for Thor as well; and now, as marketing is set to begin for this 2022 film, fans have just got the best look yet at the God of Thunder's bold new threads.
Chris Hemsworth's Thor: Love and Thunder Costume Revealed
As part of the upcoming film's new line of toys, Marvel revealed a Titan Hero Series figure of Thor for Thor: Love and Thunder, offering a full look at Chris Hemsworth's wild, new costume.
This blue and yellow color scheme is quite a departure from the God of Thunder's typically muted, desaturated colored costumes. However, he is still wielding Stormbreaker, just as he was in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
It's also worth noting that the image on the action figure's packaging is slightly different from the action figure itself in that the box shows Thor wearing his red cape. This actually supports earlier images of Thor that made their way online in weeks prior.
That same early image of Thor is also visible on the packaging for a Thor: Love and Thunder Stormbreaker toy.
This particular promo also offers a better look at the details of Thor's new costume with his powers on full display.
Where is Thor's New Helmet?
The fact that Thor received a new costume for his upcoming film isn't surprising, since almost every MCU hero receives a new look or several ahead of their next role. What is surprising, however, is how different Thor's new look is in comparison to his armor from the original 2011 film and even the natural, neutral tones of his suits in his more recent films.
Still, these vibrant blue and gold hues do seem more in-step with Taika Waititi's wildly colorful aesthetic from Thor: Ragnarok and likely the crazy events of this anticipated film.
The color and costume change might also be necessary since Jane Foster's Mighty Thor costume looks similar to that of Thor's original design. Still, fans can't help but notice that the blue and gold echoes that of Ikaris's costume from Eternals, leading to speculation that there might be some sort of connection.
After all, Love and Thunder looks to be Marvel's next film set in space and the cosmos; and Eternals did leave audiences on a bit of a cliffhanger.
It's also worth noting that these promotional images don't show Thor in a new helmet. However, a leaked poster that made its way online in January 2022 showed the God of Thunder sporting a dramatic blue and gold helmet that matched his new duds.
Perhaps future merchandise - or the film's anticipated trailer - will show Thor's complete costume in the coming weeks? Only time will tell.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to release in theaters on July 8, 2022.
