With less than a month remaining until its long-awaited release, Marvel Studios fans are building anticipation for December's Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now that this movie is the next one on Phase 4's release schedule, it's an all-hands-on-deck scenario for the promotional tour and press rounds over the next few weeks.
Most recently, the second full trailer for No Way Home broke the internet with footage featuring five of the movie's villains, particularly centering on Alfred Molina's Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. The MCU's Multiverse is set to break wide open with these appearances, as Tom Holland's Peter Parker and Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange do everything they can to save their reality.
Of course, these rumors wouldn't be complete without teases of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's returns as Spider-Man alongside Holland's MCU hero. While it's still a mystery how exactly they will make their presence felt in No Way Home, a recent scoop may hold the answer - and an unexpected one at that.
Andrew Garfield & Tobey Maguire's Screentime In Spider-Man: No Way Home
WARNING: This article may include minor spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Scooper Daniel Richtman revealed small details about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's roles as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home on his YouTube channel. This includes news that both of them will have about half an hour of screen time in the threequel.
Upon first arriving in the MCU's universe, the two Peters will be working hard to help Holland's hero figure out a solution to the Multiverse problem, which will reportedly be after the movie's first act. Unexpectedly, it's said Garfield and Maguire's characters will first put their minds together as "scientists" in scenes prior to them joining the action as superheroes.
The trio will work together to figure out exactly what's happening with the Multiverse and the melding of different universes, which is when they will have their huge crossover moment ahead of suiting up in their Spidey suits. This all comes before the three web-slingers team up to fight the movie's five villains in the epic final battle.
Scientists, Super-Villains, Spideys...Oh My!
It's abundantly clear that fans can't wait to see three live-action Spider-Men swinging and fighting alongside one another, fulfilling dreams of an MCU Spider-verse coming to life. However, according to this rumor, Garfield and Maguire will have the opportunity to show that their Peter Parkers are more than just superheroes.
As Doctor Strange pointed out in No Way Home's first trailer, "The Multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little." Even with two brilliant scientists in the MCU's Peter Parker and Doctor Strange trying to figure out what's happening to their world, having two other near-geniuses in the mix should serve as a major boost.
With half an hour of reported screen time, Garfield and Maguire's roles should be far more than glorified cameos as they put their prowess as scientists on display during the Multiversal madness. Although this will be a first-time experience for all three Spideys, their collective brainpower will be a key asset in working out how to fix the Multiverse, at least before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness breaks it again.
Even with a handful of past Spider-Man villains in play, Maguire and Garfield's comebacks have sent the fandom into a frenzy as No Way Home's stock continues to rise.
If this rumor proves to be true, about 20% of this movie's runtime will feature this superhero trio as they learn about one another and work out how to combine their collective intelligence and power for the greater good. Having Garfield and Maguire in the movie at all is an accomplishment, but with this report, it could turn into something truly spectacular.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will debut in theaters on December 17, 2021.
