Marvel Studios is currently reaping the rewards from its second Disney+ exclusive The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, for which the sixth and final episode just went live. Anthony Mackie's title character flew into action with a brand-new suit straight out of Wakanda and teamed up with Sergeant Bucky Barnes to show the world what a formidable duo they had become.

Throughout all six episodes of the show, the theme has consistently been paying tribute to the legacy of Captain America after Steve Rogers passed the shield to Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame. However, with Chris Evans having starred as Rogers in a full trilogy of movies since 2011, it seemed that the First Avenger's time in the MCU's movies had come to an end.

Even with these preexisting circumstances, Mackie took the mantle and ran with it, setting himself up as one of the key players going forward in Phase 4 and beyond. Now, it seems as though this role may grow even more with the latest project said to be in development.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman is now developing a fourth Captain America movie set within the MCU. Spellman will be penning the script alongside Dalan Musson, another staff writer on the Disney+ show.

No other details were shared by THR, yet Deadline's report made mention of whether Steve Rogers actor Chris Evans would be connected to this project.

THE STAR-SPANGLED MAN WITH A PLAN

"Let's hear it for Captain America!"

After it was assumed that the Captain America legacy would most likely continue in the streaming world for the MCU, this is easily the biggest development for the character since Steve Rogers retired in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Even more exciting is the fact that Malcolm Spellman will return to pen the script for it after reaching such a high bar with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan's Disney+ entry.

This new movie will look to add even more depth to the character after Episode 6 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier retitled the series Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Both in the movies and the Disney+ shows, it's becoming more evident by the day that Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson is sticking around in the MCU for a long time to come.

There are no story details revealed for this movie yet, nor does it have an official title, but fans will surely be paying close attention to the American hero all over social media in the coming weeks and months. With Spellman's expertise on the character, the legacy of Captain America should be in great hands when this fourth movie becomes a reality.
