In the weeks following its debut on Disney+, Marvel Studios' Eternals continues to be a source of chatter surrounding the MCU's future. Not only did it set up a cosmic storyline with nearly a dozen immensely powerful immortal beings, but it also introduced a future power player waiting in the wings in Kit Harington's Dane Whitman.
Harington took his star power built from his run on Game of Thrones into Eternals, although he only saw minimal screentime in his first time playing Dane Whitman. However, looking at his character's progression in the comics, he winds up turning into quite the powerful hero himself when he takes on the Black Knight persona.
After taking on the role for the first time in Eternals alongside Gemma Chan's Sersi and Richard Madden's Ikaris, there are currently no set plans for Harington's next appearance in Phase 4 or beyond. As it turns out, if Harington is to be believed, even he doesn't know what his future with the MCU will hold when the time comes.
Kit Harington on MCU Future
In an interview with The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Eternals star Kit Harington addressed what the future holds for his MCU character, Dane Whitman.
When asked if he knew anything about Dane Whitman's future on-screen appearances, Harington could only take the "political" route by admitting he doesn't know what his future holds. Referencing his post-credits scene from Eternals, he's "hoping" that things will go further for Dane after his first appearance in 2021.
The actor even admitted that it's tough having people say he's lying about this kind of information while reconfirming that he has "no idea" what's ahead for him in the MCU.
"No, not that I know of. It sounds like a very political answer. It’s exciting for me. The last film, as anyone who all have seen, it kind of sets an idea up that I might go further, so I’m hoping. But I think whenever you’re answering questions about these things, people point at you and say ‘liar’ as if you know more than other people, I have no idea. I genuinely don’t. I’m waiting for a call on it at some point."
Where Will Black Knight Show Up Next?
In a movie that featured more than a dozen new MCU characters, Kit Harington's Dane Whitman was forced to the sidelines for the time being. However, Marvel is known for setting up its future years in advance, which all but guarantees that the star will be back for more at some point, regardless of when that may be.
Eternals' second post-credits scene teased that future for Harington's Dane Whitman as he opened up an old case holding the famed Ebony Blade for the first time. As he reached for it, he heard the voice of Mahershala Ali's Blade making sure he was ready for what was coming next, which can only mean the Black Knight isn't too far from fully arriving.
Harington's hero appears set to wield the Ebony Blade and become a superhero in his next steps, although it's unclear when he may take those next steps.
Rumors have pointed to him teaming up with Ali in the upcoming Blade solo film, which is set to go into production later in 2022. This appearance and others are still far from confirmed but considering all the circumstances, Harington's time in the spotlight shouldn't be too far away.
Eternals is now streaming worldwide on Disney+.
