Marvel Studios recently finished off its fifth and final Disney+ show of 2021 when Episode 6 of Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye premiered to the world. Coming after one of the biggest weeks in franchise history with the debut of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Hawkeye found a way to bring plenty of its own thrills with epic battles and an emotional ending for Clint Barton's first MCU solo project.
Warning - The rest of this article contains spoilers for Episode 6 of Hawkeye.
Episode 6 brought a great deal of closure for Barton as he finally gave his side of the Natasha Romanoff story to Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova and fully teamed up with Kate Bishop to take down the Tracksuit Mafia at 30 Rockefeller Center. Throw that in alongside a proper introduction for Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, and it made for quite an exciting ending to the master archer's six-episode story.
With Hawkeye's first season now officially complete, the big question now is whether the story will continue into a second season on Disney+. Following Episode 6's debut, one of the series' directors teased the potential for the adventure to move past its freshman season.
Hawkeye Director on Season 2 Possibilities
Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas spoke with Collider about the possibilities of Marvel Studios greenlighting a second season for the original Avenger's Disney+ show.
Thomas utilized the classic Marvel method of keeping secrecy while also commenting on having to see how fans and critics view the show and take it in as a whole. He specifically mentioned how great it's been to see Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop "embraced" so fully while also revealing that he would be open to returning to his role for a Season 2:
"I cannot speak to future plans in the tradition of secrecy. Again, the show coming out, you never know how it's going to be received and it has been amazing to see how warmly people have taken it and enjoyed it. And it's been great to see Hailee's character embraced and sort of land so firmly in the MCU. I sincerely look forward to where that character goes next. And yes, I loved walking on the streets of the MCU and would gladly enjoy doing it again."
When Will Hawkeye Season 2 Release?
2021 has seen mixed results for Marvel Studios in terms of renewals for second seasons of Phase 4 Disney+ shows, even considering how many unique properties are coming over the next few years. What If...? and Loki are already confirmed to continue soon, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier got a title change that could indicate that same renewal coming, and Wanda Maximoff and others are moving on to more stories after WandaVision.
Thanks to both Clint Barton and Kate Bishop making it out of Season 1 relatively unscathed, there's surely an open path to develop a new round of adventures in the future. Even with Alaqua Cox's Echo getting her own solo series and Kate Bishop surely on her way to an undisclosed Young Avengers project, Clint Barton still has plenty left in the tank for more stories in Phase 4 and beyond.
With Season 1 having concluded only a short time ago, there is still plenty of time for Marvel Studios to look into what to show in a potential second run of episodes for Hawkeye. And even with so many other properties on the way, there should be a space carved out for one of the franchise's earliest mightiest heroes.
All six episodes of Hawkeye are now available to stream on Disney+.
