Filming for Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder will begin early next year with many of the leading and supporting actors arriving in Sydney, Australia, like Christian Bale, who will be portraying the villain of the movie. The fast approach of the production also means that actors are physically preparing for their roles, like Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth.
Yes, Marvel Studios very much intends to show off Hemsworth's impressive biceps, meaning that the days of Thor having a potbelly have ended. Thor's depression-plagued, semi-retired appearance in Avengers: Endgame had a mixed reaction from some fans, disappointed that Odinson was seemingly no longer at his peak seen at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
Chris Hemsworth posted a new photo of himself getting in shape for Thor: Love and Thunder on Instagram with the caption "Cheat day today. Decided to treat myself to this extra large donut, gosh it’s heavy @centrfit:"
WHAT THIS MEANS
It is unlikely that this will be for flashbacks or a bait-and-switch like in Endgame, since Chris Pratt already mentioned being in scenes with Hemsworth, displaying these bigger muscles, in his comment on Hemsworth's Instagram post. Hopefully, Chris Hemsworth is taking precautions in gaining so much muscle in a short amount of time, not to mention retaining it for the entire shoot, which will start in January. Hemsworth certainly looks like the biggest he has ever been in his appearances as the God of Thunder.
It will be interesting to see how Taika Waititi shows Thor losing his excess weight in Thor: Love and Thunder, whether it's done off screen or through a montage in Peter Quill's fruitless attempt at competing with him. This will likely be the latter, due to previous jokes aimed at Quill by the rest of the Guardians for his weight in Avengers: Infinity War, especially when compared to Thor.
