Before the Guardians of the Galaxy set off on their final adventure in the James Gunn-directed threequel, Chris Pratt's Peter Quill and the rest of his teammates will first return to aid Chris Hemsworth's Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder. The Guardians' inclusion comes after Thor joined them in the Benatar following the events of Avengers: Endgame, with the upcoming film set to showcase what happened to the God of Thunder's newfound family.
Love and Thunder's trailer showcased a good chunk of footage involving the Guardians, with it showing that Thor is not joining their missions since he appears to be keen on leaning toward superhero retirement. At one point in the promotional footage, Quill is giving advice to Thor, saying that he just needs to look at the eyes of the people that he loves if ever he feels lost.
Based on that brief footage, it seems that Quill and Thor managed to create a solid bond after Endgame. Now, it seems that that friendship also flourished behind the scenes, as further evidenced by a new interview.
Pratt Offers High Praise for Chris Hemsworth
Marvel's Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt sat down with SFX Magazine, via Gamesradar, to talk about his working relationship with Chris Hemsworth during Thor: Love and Thunder.
Pratt first admitted that he loved working with Hemsworth, pointing out that "he is like Thor in real life:"
“I love being able to work with Chris Hemsworth. He is like Thor in real life. He’s the sweetest dude. Super-funny. Works so hard. It was great. I loved every minute of shooting [Thor 4]. I’m so grateful that they brought us along."
The Guardians of the Galaxy lead star also offered his high praise towards the film's director, Taika Waititi, describing him as "outrageous" while saying that "his style is so unique:"
"It was neat to see him bring this to Australia and shoot it there, with all of his fellow countrymen. And with director Taika Waititi, who is just outrageous. His style is so unique.”
Back in June 2021, Hemsworth shared a behind-the-scenes photo of himself with Pratt wearing their updated costumes for the movie, indicating that they both had a great time on the set of the movie:
Pratt, alongside the rest of the Guardians (minus Gamora), is set to join Hemsworth in the upcoming MCU sequel this July.
Star-Lord and Thor's Interesting MCU Dynamic
Pratt's latest praise towards Hemsworth echoes the sentiment of his former co-stars, and that consistency further cements the fact that the MCU veteran is a solid teammate behind the scenes.
Although signs indicate that the Guardians will likely have a limited role in Thor: Love and Thunder, it's reasonable to assume that the upcoming sequel will spend some significant time explaining how Thor's friendship with the rest of the Guardians evolved, specifically with their leader in Peter Quill.
During Avengers: Infinity War, Chris Pratt's Star-Lord and Thor appeared to not get along with one another. However, it seems that this partnership has since changed, with both of them having mutual respect for one another by the time Love and Thunder rolls around.
While the brief exchange between Thor and Star-Lord at the end of the trailer could imply that the former has feelings for the latter, it's safe to say that it's just Thor messing with the Guardians' leader before their eventual parting of ways (or he's been spending too much time with the all-too-literal Drax the Destroyer).
Fans can see more of the Guardians of the Galaxy team up with the God of Thunder when Thor: Love and Thunder premieres in theaters on July 8.
