Since 2020, it's long been speculated whether Bruce Campbell had filmed a cameo for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness; it didn't help that Campbell made numerous cheeky teases at his involvement. This included an April Fools post that joked about him making a cameo in the Doctor Strange sequel as his iconic character, Ash Williams, from the Evil Dead franchise.
Of course, everyone has assumed that Campbell would make a cameo ever since Sam Raimi was confirmed to direct the long-anticipated Doctor Strange sequel. However, at a recent fan convention, Bruce Campbell finally confirmed that he had filmed scenes for Marvel's second Doctor Strange film and even gave a short description of one scene.
Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi Together Again!
Reddit user tylerjb223, while attending a convention sponsored by Armed Forces Entertainment, had the opportunity to meet actor Bruce Campbell and ask him several questions, including one about Campbell potentially appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The Reddit user attempted to paraphrase Campbell's answer, who mentioned filming multiple scenes, including "a cool scene with a character that's been beloved for years." However, Campbell is unsure if all or any of his scenes will remain in the final cut:
"I did a cool scene with a character that's been beloved for years, and…we’ll have to see what ends up in the movie. I don’t know if it's still in there. It's a pretty cool part."
Who Is Campbell Playing and With Which Character?
The Reddit user did make it clear that Bruce Campbell filmed multiple scenes, not just one, so his character could be a little more than a simple cameo, like many of his other appearances in non-Evil Dead Sam Raimi romps. As for which character Campbell could have been filmed alongside, one that's "been beloved for years" does narrow it down a bit.
The only two candidates that fit that description within the film's plot could be Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda, or Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier. Perhaps Bruce Campbell could end up being one of the members of the Illuminati hinted at in the trailer. Although, it'd be hilarious if that April Fool's prank ended up being true and Campbell returned as Ashly Williams and interacted with Strange for a scene or two.
Fans will find out for sure who Campbell will be playing when they see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters on May 6, 2022.
