Over the past few months, it's been put into question exactly how much of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been reshot at the end of 2021 in the lead up to its theatrical release. Reportedly, the reshoots for the Doctor Strange sequel were "significant," but according to Benedict Cumberbatch, they were merely to cover for lost time due to the pandemic and unavailable actors.

Despite reshoots being a regular occurrence with Marvel Studios productions, fans are still left worried about whether it's a bad sign for the sequel's quality. However, a new comment from actor Bruce Campbell could stir up those fears again in fans, as he described the extensive reshoots.

Extensive Reshoots for Doctor Strange Sequel?

Attending a convention sponsored by Armed Forces Entertainment, Reddit user tylerjb223 had the opportunity to meet actor Bruce Campbell and ask him multiple questions, including one about filming for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While Bruce Campbell finally confirmed his appearance in the Doctor Strange sequel, he also let slip, paraphrased by the Reddit user, that "A majority of the film was reshot extensively" in contrast to previous comments from co-stars:

"The deal with Doctor Strange is interesting. A majority of the film was reshot extensively, so I have no idea what's in there and what isn’t."

Reshoots Are Part of the Process

Fans have slowly learned to accept Marvel Studios has reshoots built into the production of its films, which Ant-Man director Peyton Reed found to be "liberating." According to Benedict Cumberbatch, the reshoots for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was additional photography to improve already-shot scenes, with the rest being other scenes that were "just impossible to do on the day."

However, it is odd that Bruce Campbell describes the reshoots as "a majority of the film" being "reshot extensively." It could easily be dismissed if he was just another actor, but Campbell is close friends with director Sam Raimi. Additionally, Campbell most likely filmed his scenes for the Doctor Strange sequel last year so that he might know the intents of the reshoots.

It could also be the Reddit user misinterpreting Campbell's words, the actor himself misinterpreting what he's heard, or it could just be him making assumptions based on recent news about the reshoots online. Regardless, it seems like a lot was added to the sequel after Campbell filmed his scenes.

Fans will find out how much of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was reshot after being released in theaters on May 6, 2022.
