Chris Hemsworth's next adventure as Thor is easily one of the most anticipated films of next year; but not because of the God of Thunder himself, with plenty of attention on Natalie Portman's Jane Foster. The character, last seen in 2013's Thor: The Dark World, is set to make her grand return for Taika Watiti's Thor: Love and Thunder. This time, however, she'll be the one wielding Mjolnir.
After the events of Thor: Ragnarok, fans thought that they may never see the famous hammer again. Then came Endgame, which surprised audiences around the world with one last appearance from Thor's enchanted weapon––or so fans thought.
Shortly after the last Avengers film, Marvel Studios announced the next Thor film. This time, however, the hammer was set for it's second post-death appearance, to be wielded by no other than Jane Foster herself.
Now, thanks to a new leaked poster, fans have their first true look at Foster's God of Thunder.
Jane Foster, God of Thunder
A new leaked poster, seen above, showed first look at what audiences can look forward to in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Most importantly, however, it showed the best look yet at Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, this time sporting Thor's former weapon Mjolnir.
The most notable part of her appearance is how the Mjolnir that she's sporting happens to be cracked all over, indicating that it hasn't fully recovered from Hela's last encounter with the hammer. There's some strong magic holding those pieces of Uru together.
Jane Foster's appearance looks nearly identical to her original comic duds, so it seems that Marvel Studios is going all in when it comes to remaining true to the source material.
The final note to make is how Jane Foster, Thor, Korg, and Valkyrie are all riding together on a chariot, indicating that the group could be their own four-person squad working in tandem to defeat evil.
Also of note? Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr, Thor's goats from Norse Mythology, also make their debut in his fourth adventure.
Jane Foster Joins the Asgardians
It's great to see how faithful and accurate Marvel Studios is remaining to Jane Foster's debut as the God of Thunder in the comics. Her original outfit earned high praise, so keeping it was undoubtedly the right choice.
Even more interesting is how her hammer, Mjolnir, is visibly cracked all over from its break in Thor: Ragnarok. Could this be a sign that her stint as a God is a temporary position? Also, one can't help but wonder what circumstances led to those pieces of Uru coming back together.
That potential moment was glimpsed in set photos earlier this year, which saw Natalie Portman's Jane Foster standing in front of what seems to be a memorial or shrine of sorts on the very spot where Mjolnir was destroyed many years before.
With the trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness potentially set to release before this month ends, which means that Love and Thunder's trailer could hit the internet by early next year.
Thor: Love and Thunder releases in theaters on July 8, 2022.
