Even for how much Marvel Studios is known to have more than a handful of projects filming at the same time, the current slate is more jam-packed than ever. This includes a whopping dozen movies and shows coming out in 2022 alone, one of which being Chris Hemsworth’s fourth MCU solo movie in Thor: Love and Thunder.

This film may raise the bar for ensemble casts in a solo film, even after Spider-Man: No Way Home blows the multiverse wide open. Filming is still going strong in Australia with stars like Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and others working hard to complete next year’s galactic summer blockbuster.

As fans wait for this movie to arrive in a little over a year, its award-winning director recently gave an update on how much more work needs to be done before completion.

JUST A FEW MORE WEEKS FOR THOR

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi revealed to Daily Mail that his second MCU film only has “four weeks left” before filming comes to an end. He also built up the hype for the fourth solo film saying it “might be the best Marvel film ever” when asked about shooting:

“Great - we've got four weeks left, I can see light at the end of the tunnel. It might be the best Marvel film ever!”

Waititi also touched on leading actor Chris Hemsworth, whom he described as “a funny guy” and “a good friend”:

“He is a funny guy, he's a good friend and he's also someone that you just want to hang out with all the time. And I think that's all you really want from a superhero or a main character in your movie.”

POST-PRODUCTION DRAWING CLOSER

Thor: Love and Thunder has had cameras rolling for more than six months, which makes sense considering how much intense superhero action needs to be shot for a film like this. Thankfully, Waititi’s quotes firmly put a light at the end of the tunnel for this new cosmic adventure.

The fact that there's so much post-production and VFX work needed for this movie means it’s likely going to be a few more months until fans see any finished footage or fully rendered photos. That being said, this news is a huge step forward for a movie that fans are highly anxious to see.

With literally almost a dozen heroes teaming up in this movie against Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, there sill be no lack of action or stakes after Thor sets off with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Endgame. The specifics of this are still being kept in the dark, but that won’t keep speculation and theories from running wild in the coming weeks.

Thor: Love and Thunder will complete filming soon, and the film will release in theaters on May 6, 2022.
