Krypto, League of Super-Pets

DC's League of Super-Pets is set to push Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Krypto the Superdog into the forefront alongside several powerful allies. The upcoming animated movie is directed by Jared Stern (The LEGO Batman Movie) and Sam Levine and bolsters a stellar voice cast that includes Kevin Hart, John Krasinksi, Diego Luna, Natasha Lyonne, and Kate McKinnon. Although Super-Pets has been slightly delayed, marketing for the movie has been in full swing in the past months.

Official footage from its promotional push has confirmed that a new version of the Justice League will be featured, but the team will be down for the count in the movie due to Lex Luthor's heinous plan. As a result, Krypto and his super-powered pet allies will need to do whatever it takes to save the world from Luthor's evil deeds.

Now, ahead of the film's July release, a brand-new trailer has revealed more interesting story details.

Dwayne Johnson Unveils New Super-Pets Trailer

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson officially unveiled a brand-new trailer for DC's League of Super-Pets, showcasing a fresh look at the core heroes of the upcoming animated film.

The two-minute trailer features many new scenes from the film, including footage of John Krasinski's Superman being attacked by Kryptonite.

The unknown attacker seems to be powerful enough to place Superman in a difficult predicament:

It also shows the strong bond between Krypto and Krasinki's Man of Steel.

A shot of Superman and Wonder Woman (and presumably other League members) being trapped inside a prison is also shown:

Kevin Hart's Ace the Bathound is also highlighted, with the dog hero acting as the second major player next to Johnson's Krypto:

This latest trailer provides more clues on how the story of League of Super-Pets will be showcased on the big screen. A Superman-centric plot would not be complete without Kryptonite, and it seems that the upcoming animated movie will utilize this weakness even more.

It is also fitting that one of the major causes of the Justice League being trapped is an adorable yet dangerous pet. The true nature of this pet is still unknown, but there's a good chance that this villain is tied to Lex Luthor.

The idea of seeing Krypto step up to form a new team to save the world presents many story opportunities, especially considering that the Superdog is used to being the second fiddle to Superman. It's safe to assume that there will be some kind of emotional growth for Johnson's DC character as he sets off to become a leader.

DC's League of Super-Pets is set to premiere in theaters on July 29.
