Spider-Man: No Way Home Composer Announces Exciting Thor 4 Update

Marvel Studios will soon release the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters, arguably the biggest MCU release since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The blockbuster threequel has built up immeasurable hype for more than a year thanks to leaks and spoilers from multiple angles, setting Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures up for possibly the most successful score of the year in the movie industry.

One of the most recent leaks surrounding No Way Home was some of its soundtrack, although Sony quickly had it removed due to potential Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield-related spoilers. With fans noticing hints of their themes along with the music heard in past MCU Spider-Man outings, the excitement only continues to build for the upcoming worldwide event.

Bringing that score to life is Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino, who's built an extensive resume with Disney over the past two decades and has a wide range of projects already on his plate in the coming years. Now, he seems to have added another project to his slate as he returns to the MCU once again.

Another MCU Score for Michael Giacchino

Composer Michael Giacchino teased on Twitter that he will be writing the score for Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder. This would mark the fifth MCU film he has composed since 2016, joining Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

This now gives Giacchino more MCU projects than any other composer as he beats out Alan Silvestri, who wrote the scores for Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

Giacchino shared a GIF of Chris Hemsworth's Thor from 2012's The Avengers calling his hammer back, along with the caption "Me grabbing my next assignment…:"

Giacchino Moving from Spider-Man to Thor

Giacchino is one of the preeminent figures in the musical community these days, particularly considering the scale of the projects he's worked on. His credits include Star Wars; Rogue One for Lucasfilm and the upcoming DC Extended Universe film The Batman, all before he takes on his third different franchise within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

His history with the MCU extends even further than his movie scores too, as he composed the theme that plays during the Marvel Studios logo intro before every movie and Disney+ show. This first debuted alongside his work on 2016's Doctor Strange, and outside of a few exceptions, it's been played at the start of every MCU project since.

Interestingly, Giacchino also becomes the fourth unique composer to take on composing duties in the Thor franchise alone, following Patrick Doyle on Thor, Brian Tyler on Thor: The Dark World, and Mark Mothersbaugh on Thor: Ragnarok. He certainly has a challenge ahead of him to develop something uniquely different from those three scores and his other work in the MCU, although he's proven himself worthy of that challenge.

With Love and Thunder now close to going into post-production, Giacchino will dive into developing his fourth unique musical theme within the MCU since he started with the franchise five years ago. With no footage or specific story beats known yet, the composer will spend the coming months pulling together a score that fits the thrills coming in this new outing.

Thor: Love and Thunder will debut in theaters on July 8, 2022.
