With a matter of weeks to go until Spider-Man: No Way Home finally hits theaters, fans have already been treated to plenty of footage from the Tom Holland sequel across numerous trailers, TV spots, and other promotional material. Across these clips, moviegoers were offered a peek at the return of Peter Parker alongside his cast of friends, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, and a slew of past villains from across the multiverse.
Despite having been treated to an assortment of footage, the highly-anticipated threequel remains shrouded in mystery as Sony and Marvel continue to be cryptic with all things No Way Home.
While the events of the third act remain particularly secretive, Tom Holland has revealed how things will kick off as it follows the concluding moments of Far From Home.
Tom Holland Reveals No Way Home Opening
During a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland revealed how the highly-anticipated sequel will open.
The British star confirmed the threequel "picks up right after [Far From Home] finishes" as it opens with the "same freeze-frame" that concluded the 2019 blockbuster as Spider-Man's superhero identity was revealed to the world:
"What's cool about this film is it picks up right after the second one finishes. So the second one finishes with a freeze-frame of Spider-Man, the third one starts with the same freeze-frame."
How Will Marvel Follow That Cliffhanger?
Far From Home left fans on a huge cliffhanger as Spider-Man's identity was revealed to the world, much to the shock of the wall-crawler. Given the game-changing nature of the ending, it makes sense for No Way Home to follow just moments later as Peter Parker and the rest of New York react to the reveal.
By following the conclusion just moments later, No Way Home will have an excellent opportunity to explore how Peter, his friends, enemies, and the citizens of New York will react to discovering Spider-Man is a teenager and possibly even a murderer.
Intriguingly, Spider-Man's European adventures concluded in the summer while portions of No Way Home have been confirmed to take place in the festive season. Based on this, fans can expect the threequel to take place over several months or see a significant time jump as it builds towards Peter Parker's court trial.
However the events of No Way Home may unfold, all will become clear in a matter of days as Spider-Man's next adventure hits theaters on December 17, 2021.
